UP, for the promised new (and final for now) list of offerings. I've eliminated the reserved CDRs and have added some information for some of the prior listing. Please PM or post here new requests. -
Album Covers That Try To Tell You What To Do
Dan Gould replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous Music
How Dare You is an exclamation, not remotely a command. What is she telling him or us to do? I'm Your Man is a statement, not a command. Regretfully, I credited you with Cyril's We See cover. -

I think Soulpope should take another look at the topic. His last three are not albums that try to tell you what to do. -

UP for any other interested parties, and for a PSA: Contrary to my initial post I will have a "final (for now)" listing posted late in the day this Sunday the 19th. After that list is picked over all packages will be shipped the following Saturday. -
and already out, no waiting with baited breath: https://www.amazon.com/Blue-Note-Chicago-March-1956/dp/B01ECKPHF6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1465914425&sr=8-1&keywords=jeri+southern

This is overdue for another listen but I really liked Sonny Red's playing the first time thru, echoing the prior comments by Joe and Jim if memory serves.

I think of the dominance of electric guitar in rock, and wonder if Koester is really referencing white rock fans more than white blues fans. Does it matter if you discovered the blues thru Cream vs Freddie King?

The following CDRs of private recordings (Audience, soundboard, radio-sourced) are offered, first-come first-served, gratis including Media Mail shipping in the US, to interested members. Non-US residents will pay actual shipping costs. I am listing the CDRs by what is written on them, though in most cases I also have "info" files in text format somewhere on an external hard drive. Recording quality is A/A- in most cases. The worst are audience recordings that have prominent clapping but all are very listenable. So that I am not dinged up on multiple small mailings, I ask for a 5 disc minimum if at all possible. Post here or PM me and I will confirm availability as quickly as possible. Actually, no need. I found all tracks uploaded to youtube, used my video-snatching plug-in to download each, and today I will play each while rolling Goldwave to record the audio. You'd be surprised how acceptable the sound ends up, especially if you do most of your listening in the car. BTW I-tunes may have this only in Laos but Amazon.fr has it: https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B00SZJWPCY?ie=UTF8&keywords=horace%20silver%20live%20in%20paris&qid=1422948749&ref_=sr_1_1&s=dmusic&sr=1-1

If a link "view in I-tunes" does not launch the album of interest, this means that it's not available where I am, right? Trying to download the Horace Silver Live in Paris set mentioned here and getting very frustrated. Any insight appreciated!

Does anyone else perceive a difference between "relax with in his later years" and "on his death bed"?

I was way too young to understand Ali the public figure when I became a fight fan as a kid. I just knew him as the fighter, and my favorite fighter of all was the fearsome Foreman. I marveled at his power, how he destroyed Frazier who fought Ali to a virtual tie. And, importantly, I hated braggarts (and still do). So I hated Ali after he beat my hero. And I rooted for all of them to beat him - Norton (second favorite of the era), Shavers (who I thought for sure had him when he dropped him like a bad habit with one roundhouse swign) and then Spinks. But things changed after Ali retired and Holmes became dominant. I saw him as a pale imitation of Ali and really wanted Ali to take him out in their ill-fated fight. By then I had certainly matured and read enough to understand Ali's cultural significance as well as to appreciate his extraordinary skills, and when Parkinson's stole so much of his personality I became an even bigger fan. I do think he's in a better place now, his physical and vocal gifts restored. Facing Ali is a great way to remember him across his career, thru the eyes of his opponents. And check his defensive gifts here:

Well I think we have our answer. I've been lied to. Today's whopper: She got the money from her retirement account. But her daughter "overdrew" the account and paid for "tuition" and other things and she can't pay. Sue spoke to her boss who encouraged us to allow her to stay, get as much money as we can out of her, let the mortgage go and pocket that money and get a short-sale out of it. I said absolutely not I want her out of our house as quickly as possible. When Sue delineated what would happen to her credit with a mortgage delinquency I told her the alternative is to give this woman seven days to pay May rent and until July 1 to pay June and July. We are not sure if we will simply start the eviction process or give her this opportunity (to continue to string us along). It's really unbelievable how this has happened because when we found this renter we thought we were in a position to have someone we 'know' in our house, someone who would pay the rent promptly because she works under Sue. And now this has happened.

I am certain it should be ... never grabbed that set.

Fantabulous is really good, better than I remembered. I hope Jim has this one somewhere in the stack though of course it doesn't fit specifically into the purpose of this thread.
-
Or Fantabulous, also on Argo? About to listen to that for the first time in many a moon. (I like all the LD Argos but that's not really germane to this discussion.)

Saw this at Guitar Center, $20, and figured what the hell. I really don't know why my old one stopped functioning (and to be clear the real problem was on the first fret where the strings are highest) but this works perfectly and I actually like the two-handed positioning. Thanks for the recommendation!

I thought of this poll last night talking to my wife. I've always said "often" as if the t were silent; she pronounces it off-ten which totally grates on my ears. I know either is acceptable but which is right? I mean, to you?

Sonny Rollins Trio & Horace Silver Quintet - Zurich 1959
Dan Gould replied to duaneiac's topic in New Releases
And that's a pretty weird carryover from the other thread. -
Don't worry about it ... I don't think the neck is especially small. I'd probably play better if it was. But the spring is definitely engaged as far as it will go and its not giving the same results as before.

Of course I have turned the knob it does not tighten further.
