  1. Been waiting 38 years for the Sox to return the favor to the Yankees with a Massacre. Not quite the same - those games in Boston in '78 were all blowouts - but its nice to put the Yankees almost on the cusp of elimination while securing a tiny edge in the division race - which will surely go down to the wire and the Yanks could get a measure of revenge next week. The beauty of baseball - there's always another game. Until there's not.
  2. (or it wouldn't have happened if Hanley got rung up on that check swing, which was awfully close.) Smiling this morning - I went to bed after Papi's blast in the 8th. They really needed that win with Bucholz going tonight.
  3. Thanks everybody! It was pretty quiet but I guess I'm still recovering from crossing the "50" threshold last year.
  4. The Les McCann was brought up earlier in the year here: I think MG was "away" at the time otherwise he'd have probably snagged the McCann even sooner. Here's another link specific to Live in Paris listings: http://www.live-in-paris.fr/live-in-paris-jazz/ I can strongly recommend the Horace Silver but what is strange is that Mike's link is a single CD and the live in paris link above is two discs wroth of music.
  5. Finally! Someone almost as excited as I am!!
  6. I've wondered if the prevalence of Japanese issues of the individual LPs impacted the market. Such as a Hank-o-phile like myself, who went for all of the recordings before the Mosaic came out and in the end only got a copy of the booklet. These recordings weren't that hard to find if you were looking at the right time.
  7. You would think Paul. Something about Girardi's facial expressions in those situations ... it's just too pleasing. I think the Yanks are finishing up with Toronto or at least the last few series include one against them. I better set it aside if the Sox need the help at that point.
  8. I was watching the game the night before and was completely torn between enjoying the Yankees pathetic collapse and the rational consideration that my immediate interests were in a Toronto loss. Yankee hatred is just deep in my bones, I guess.
  9. Don't know if I'll take advantage or not but I am so glad I clicked on the link. They've got a comp coming out in October that is mostly tracks from their many fine archival issues but then there is this: Jazz Haunts even includes 3 tracks from not-yet-released projects from Motown guitarist Dennis Coffey, The Three Sounds featuring Gene Harris, and the legendary Wes Montgomery. We even have the title: The Three Sounds featuring Gene Harris (Groovin' Hard: Live at The Penthouse 1964-1968) The two Gene Harris Quartet releases on Reasonance are excellent but I had practically given up hope for more. The fact that they're actually working on a Three Sounds set is flippin' awesome as far as I am concerned. BTW, for those more interested in more new Wes, that session is: Recordings from the Carroll DeCamp archives
  10. Sad news. I was surprised I haven't seen an obit that mentioned the fact that the "Puttin on the Ritz" scene in Young Frankenstein was Gene's idea and that Mel Brooks hated it - at first.
  11. Sad news ... big thumbs up for the Steeplechase releases here, too.
  12. I think it was optometrist. RIP Rudy and thanks for all the great-sounding recordings.
  13. I think you'd walk Mendoza of Mendoza Line Fame to face Teixeira.
  14. And those intentional walks might come down when he doesn't have Teixeira batting behind him.
  15. Past the age of 10 I do not think Wynton wore overalls.
  16. This is probably not the place but I recently acquired his Big Band cd, Our Father Who Art Blakey and can't recommend it highly enough. Golson guests on two tunes and Ponamarev's arrangements are excellent (I like how on Moanin' the whole band plays Morgan's opening notes before the leader's solo). Looking at the liners it mentions the autobiography and makes it sound like the book inspired a documentary, Trumpeter from Russia.
  17. Clearly getting a tad senile there Mark. Cliff and Jack Germon-arando were pretty hard-to-the-port side.
  18. This is what I was thinking, that the Asshole Regime must have come to an end very soon after he lost his card. He might have even had an idea that change was going to happen but LA beckoned, to his overall benefit I would say.
  19. Now that's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Although with that lineup I think if it ever showed up for auction it would go for quite a pretty penny.
  20. Tom, Looks like it was released on CD - see Chuck's comments in this thread:
  21. The ultimate power cord. Can't read the article but I have to wonder where he got the idea. Couldn't have been sold on it by an audio dealer because there's not money in that particular bit of foolishness.
  22. Why on Earth isn't Beltre going bat shit over the head rub? Or was this a split second before the eruption? Or maybe Prince knows not to touch and he just rubs above the head.
