Lee Morgan Film
Dan Gould replied to danasgoodstuff's topic in Jazz In Print - Periodicals, Books, Newspapers, etc...
By the same woman who wrote the biography that a lot of people didn't care for. At least here she got a lot of folks talking about Grant rather than her mistakes/misinformation. The film website: http://www.grantgreenabluenote.com/ -
Nevertheless, since I can't get everything I've decided to pass on the Chris Woods release, based on the fact that he recorded "Alone Again (Naturally)" on the date. Didn't we have a puke smilie at one time?

True. What's tricky in the context of this $10 offer is how the original releases compare to the "Definitive" issues plus there's the fact that Evidence licensed a lot of these (at least on the blues side) back in the 90s. I've noticed at Da Bastards that they have a bunch of Definitive reissues listed as 'delayed' so this seems to be a chance to get some great recordings that may or may not show up elsewhere. And at an awfully good price too.

Thru an eBay purchase I've found an online dealer who is offering what seems to be pretty much the whole Black & Blue label catalog stretching all the way back to old, "pre" "Definitive Series" CDs, new, for $10 a piece. While I have quite a bit of the catalog I am looking for recommendations for any B&B recordings that members have enjoyed. The seller is an inactive member here and you can get his list at tommysjazz@gmail.com, if you're interested. As always, thanks in advance.

Red Richards and Friends, In a Mellow Tone (West 54); the friends being Norris Turney and Buck Clayton, (at least the friends in the front line). Sealed copy just arrived in the mail, (and no warp from being sealed for 35 years or so).

I started the topic as an opportunity for others to share recommendations of "private press" recordings. So please feel free to share the best of your hundreds, if you think anyone else would enjoy them.

New Gene Harris/Three Sounds Release - Resonance Records
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in New Releases
Well we're fortunate not to lack live releases of the group: Live at the Living Room (the best of all IMHO) Today's Sounds (which was live at London House) Live at the Lighthouse Live at the It Club plus the MGM release, 1/2 backing Nancy Wilson and half just the group. But a new one is a major cause for -
MLB 2016 Season Thread Of Discussions

Have to completely disagree on performance in the first few months being such a challenge. Its easier for hitters when the league isn't familiar with them. If I'm not mistaken Sanchez had come far closer to Earth in the past three weeks before hitting a few more home runs recently. A couple of years ago the Red Sox had a rookie third baseman who looked like a 30 homer guy until everyone figured out he can't hit a breaking ball to save his life. I believe he's now floating between the San Diego AAA affiliate and the majors. So let's see how Sanchez does when he stops getting fastballs in his wheelhouse, before we start comparing him to all-time greats like McCovey. -

There is no way a guy who plays a third of a season should be considered for the RoY. -

There are no known private recordings of the Sounds at all, to my knowledge. So, no I have not. -
Private Recordings Part This-is-it-I-swear
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Offering and Looking For...
I've updated the list by deleting those that are spoken for but two that were off the board are back on so all are invited to review again and submit requests. There's still a lot of good stuff left. -
I know I posted about this on another thread but now that there is a release date (January 13 CD and November 25th Record Store Day for vinyl) I figured a separate thread is in order. http://www.resonancerecords.org/release.php?cat=HCD-2025 Totally new Three Sounds! Yippee! (and color me curious whether the CD has more music than the ltd edition vinyl). "Blue Genes" drops as a single track on October 7 but knowing that the CD is coming pretty soon I'll probably just listen to the snippet when it appears on Amazon and wait until the New Year for the entire release.

I don't think there's any indication of lossless being contemplated. But I am now wondering, just what format does iTunes use? I am presuming I don't have to buy some f-ing piece of Apple hardware to hear, right? -

Uh, hello. Family comes from Chicago, if I haven't mentioned. And, my Mom is 81. My brother has a progressive, terminal disease. In short, should the Cubs and Red Sox meet in the Series, I will devoutly wish for a blow out by the Cubbies. And if the Red Sox win, I think the guilt might kill me before nature takes either of them. -

Funny but it appears this was issued back in 2014 even if DG never had it. Feeling flush with some birthday cash from Mom I've decided to try to snag this from a US site that has it listed. I'll post if it actually shows but I won't hold my breath between now and then.
