Totally random, unsupported and unequivocally .... right. No, actually it's wrong.

Up for hopefully a spirited final effort to solve the remaining mysteries. Or perhaps for Thom Keith and/or MG to make an appearance and sweep the board. Mysteries remaining: 1. Jim came up with Teddy Edwards, the actual recording is unknown. 3. Live version of Now's The Time by a pretty darn well-regarded saxophonist who doubled on alto on the track. 6. Big band with organ. This was picked with MG in mind so I really hope if he's been offline he gets a chance to listen and comment. 7. Soulful pianist who isn't Gene Harris. 8. Two pianists; the logic of my BFTs would suggest one of them might be Gene Harris but which one? And who would the other be? If Tom F. were participating he'd probably nail this as I've shared this track with him in the past. And I guess that's it. Actually the bone is pretty picked clean. Carry on. I'll have answers on April 30.

Yes, and no to the question of whether it is Budd Johnson for #3.

Private Recordings - PART TWO - Free Shipping (US Only)
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Offering and Looking For...
You got it Tom. Just send me your address. -
Tenor did switch to alto. He is the "name" on the date, most of the others I believe are "local" guys which I thought maybe Jim Sangrey was picking up on when he said that the rest of the band was "kind of annoying". But I might be wrong on that, personally I only recognize the bassist as another "name" guy.

Sonny Rollins Trio & Horace Silver Quintet - Zurich 1959
Dan Gould replied to duaneiac's topic in New Releases
Sonny & Horace is up for pre-order on Amazon US: http://www.amazon.com/Zurich-1959-Swiss-Radio-Days/dp/B01CQ2RPRK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1460232982&sr=8-1&keywords=swiss+radio+days+sonny+rollins A little pricey but I'm hoping it comes down before release. When I get it it will be my signal to cancel Amazon Prime again. -
Nicely done though mine is actually off a Urania records compilation LP. Is that a particularly well known Lucky Thompson LP? Chalk another up to Bill.
-
Nice compilation, I'm hopeful we'll get some attention paid outside of track 2. I'd only add that the tenor on #10 was identified as Teddy Edwards. And while Lucky Thompson was ID'd I am curious if anyone knows or sleuths out where it came from as this seems to be a pretty rare record. Regarding your questions, #6 is not Groove Holmes or off the Groove Merchant label. #7 is Please Send Me Someone to Love. I might toss in a hint on that one that will probably give it away, but not before the end of the month.

Turns out free is popular and they're going like hot cakes. I will definitely be sharing more once I get a chance to hear more of the backlog. -
Private Recordings - PART TWO - Free Shipping (US Only)

Thanks to Bill, Alan and Mr. Jazz - please PM mailing addresses. List is now updated. -
Let me say up front that this offer was cleared with Jim A. a few weeks ago. Basically working from home has given me time to delve into many live recordings secured thru Dime or other non-bit torrent means but never actually listened to, and I found that when I participated in those networks my eyes were perhaps more open than my ears. Or, more honestly, if I wasn't knocked out by the recording, I set it aside, in interest of simplification of my collection. Therefore rather than pitching CDRs I thought I would offer them here, gratis including Media Mail shipping in the US, to interested members. Non-US residents will pay actual shipping costs. I am really not sure how popular this offering will be, as I know many are involved with Dime already and probably have these. On the other hand if you don't do the bit-torrent thing this is a way to get live recordings you've never heard. I am listing the CDRs by what is written on them, though in most cases I also have "info" files in text format somewhere on an external hard drive. Recording quality is A/A- in almost all cases, and nearly all are soundboard or radio sourced. The worst are audience recordings that have prominent clapping but all are very listenable. So that I am not dinged up on multiple small mailings, I ask for a 5 disc minimum if at all possible. MLB 2016 Season Thread Of Discussions
Dan Gould replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Sox opener goes just like they drew it up: Six innings from new ace Price, and an inning a piece from Tazawa, Uehara, and Kimbrel - who struck out 5 of 10 batters. Betts homers early and Papi homers late and the Sox win 6-2. Ortiz had a double earlier so the last Opening Day of his career went about as well as you could hope. We'll see if the last day of his career coincides with championship #4. -

Does that one include anything not on the "Original Peacock Recordings" release? I always assumed that one was exhaustive but if it's not I'll have to find the Ballbuster one next. As far as the record under discussion it definitely leans toward country and is definitely no oddball combination of genres. Gatemouth could play it all. Roy Clark could just play.
-
I picked up a sealed copy of this many moons ago and never transferred it to digital until recently but what a fun afternoon of music-making these guys had. anyone else know of or remember this record? I always think of Roy Clark as the bug-eyed guy making corny jokes but damn he could play. Maybe next BFT I'll slip in their recording of 'A Train'.
-
I saw that listing on the KD discography which is why I stated that the recording is not on the webpage as my recording is not Europa Jazz 1039.
-
Not by the information on the album. Which includes fairly descriptive liner notes, by the way, not just presumed discographical information.
-
Yeah, I figured all of this out with a little more searching and a little more memory-jogging. Apparently the cameras weren't made after 2004 and the last to produce the APS film quit in 2011. Tells you how long since I had actually used the camera. Anyway I found film on Amazon but I wonder about developing it. The local Walgreens said they don't anymore. There apparently is a camera shop in town that might, and I did find a website offering mail-in services. Really can't decide if I want to burn thru a few rolls for old times sake or just embrace the digital and toss it. Leaning toward the digital, especially since I just upgraded my phone and I also have a battery en route that will make Mom's digital camera functional again.

Castro handled arrangements for his own Lush Life (Clover) but that was with an orchestra. Looking thru http://www.joecastrojazz.com/ I don't see any other references to Joe handling arrangements other than a quintet session for Clover that saw one 45 release.
-
The entire big band disc on that set gives arrangement credit to Joe. He also conducted.
-
Well I do not see the record on that page. But I don't think it's a true find necessarily. Good call from Jim and nice sleuthing by Bill.
