  1. Well worth the wait, Jim. Glad the speakers finally cooperated.
  2. You got it again, Bill. Nicely done.
  3. DING DING DING DING DING DING DING. It is in fact Lucky Peterson.
  4. Thanks for the stories Bill, and really you didn't do all that bad - much better than I usually do!
  5. Hey There is surely the best for the money because you also get 10 of 11 tracks issued as Babe's Blues, and holy bleeep, the unissued track from that day's session, "Billy Boy," is a burner. And as a very nice added bonus, there is a quite extended series of fours between Gene and the under-appreciated Bill Dowdy. Superb!
  6. Excellent news.
  7. Personally I rank Here We Come and Hey There slightly ahead of Black Orchid but not by a whole lot.
  8. D/L please.
  9. OK I didn't read the whole darn thing but a couple of things jumped out at me: Actually, the Angels would be paying the bulk of the deal because the a-hole Moreno wants Hamilton gone and doesn't have a legal leg to stand on if he tries to avoid paying him what he is owed by the contract Moreno offered. So the Rangers can drive the hardest bargain they want. Moreno makes it easy. And maybe I missed it but the author didn't deal with Anaheim being a less than ideal park for Hamilton. From hardballtalk.com: The author of that blog post may very well be right about a player like Hamilton in his age 34 season and what the future holds, and maybe he's not capable of a 40 or even 30 homer season anymore. But for the money the Rangers are going to pay, if he doesn't fall off a cliff statistically, he'll have legit value in my opinion.
  10. I wasn't too impressed by Hamilton going for all that money but I think the Halos have treated Hamilton appallingly and I really, really, really hope the Rangers win a World Series while he is back with them, and before the Angels sniff one. The asshole in this is the Angels owner, throwing gobs of money around and then pretending that the PA allows you to forget all that if a guy with known addiction problems that you voluntarily signed falls off the wagon. I hope he has a couple of more 40 homer seasons and that the Angels finish behind the Rangers as long as he is an active player.
  11. Wow Page either you've got access to some pretty good discographies or you really know your obscure 50s R&B. And there's a release titled Rare 78 RPM Rhythm & Blues Cuts by George Benson? Color me completely shocked. Then again until a couple of months ago I didn't even know that this record existed. I am so glad that you are enjoying the music so much and just as an FYI, there's no rule against posting in the previous month's discussion thread after the 'reveal' has been posted. Well, as long as you don't use the reveal as your cheat sheet. So whenever you get a chance I would love to read your thoughts on disc 2. Thanks for participating.
  12. Hmm ... right off the bat I am immediately wondering if I have that Bennie Green Minor Revelation/45 Sessions. Loves me some Bennie Green - and I got no problem with Babs Gonzalez myself. Thanks for posting I will take a look thru the archives.
  13. Oh I don't hear nothing ... Da Bastards won out.
  14. I liked the t-shirt so much, I bought the company! Actually if this really is an unissued/rejected tune I should probably buy it just to encourage them to keep issuing more of the same. (Then there's the nagging voice in my head saying, "what if this is really "Babe's Blues" and they just mislabeled the track?"
  15. Yeah but like Huck Finn (or was that Tom Sawyer?) I like to let other people do the work for me. I found a track listing on eBay and compared it to Babe's Blues. Babe's Blues had ten tracks, there are ten "bonus" cuts. What makes little sense is that the tracks listed are the same except that "Babe's Blues" doesn't appear and "Billy Boy," which is listed in the BN discography online as 'rejected,' does. What I don't know is if there was more than one take of any of the tracks on Babe's Blues. So basically this release almost is a two-fer, with one track missing on the bonus CD and replaced by a previously unissued tune. So I guess now my question (unanswerable by me) is whether or not this series is oh so special sounding that I should shell out for 19 tracks, only one of which is new to me.
  16. Question: The reissue of The Three Sounds Hey There! apparently has ten bonus tracks but from the partial list I've seen they appear to be from the Babe's Blues session. Can anyone confirm if there is truly unissued material on this SHMCD release?
  17. Who is at the far left? Because if he wasn't dead, I'd almost say that's Johnnie Cochran.
  18. It's too bad ... but maybe I get a shot at them if one of the two local retailers put orders in for it. If not I was going to SOL anyway.
  19. I was afraid you were referencing this: Sorry but I'd miss the coffee a lot more than the show. On the other hand, I do work with someone who was named Miss Mamacita six years ago: http://tv.univision.com/sabado-gigante/fotos/miss-colita-fotos/slideshow/2014-05-09/miss-mamacita-yanai-hernandez http://tv.univision.com/sabado-gigante/fotos/miss-colita-fotos/slideshow/2009-11-20/yanai-hernandez
  20. Well as long as these don't sound like the Lowell Fulson Jewel recordings of the same era, I think I'll be happy. I think you know what I'm talkin' about. I actually pulled the trigger on a nice looking copy of the Louis Jordan. The record he made for the Black & Blue label around the same time showed he still had it so that's the one I most want to hear. I'll probably search out a few more whenever the price is right. Thanks everybody.
