  1. Well my BFT is up next and I am putting finishing touches on the tracks and programming. My sources are a combo of tracks extracted from commercial CDs, CDRs, vinyl transfers I've made, and commercially purchased MP3s/FLAC files. The process I used last time, and expect will work again this time, is to take each file and copy/paste into a new wav file in Goldwave. I trim the ends and save, under the tracks BFT name such as BFT133-001. (This requires that I decide on tracking as I go.) I then play the final version in my media players, and also burn a CD and play that on the PC. Right now all I can report is that VLC is showing the correct BFT names in the playlist. I can't check Windows Media Player until I convert to MP3s, because it doesn't recognize wav files. But so far, so good. And this system worked fine last BFT too.
  2. This is only $8.39 thru an excellent distributor of Ace and many other labels: http://www.ebreggae.com/ They are also an Amazon seller but usually a few dollars more thru them, but you can definitely buy with confidence thru the Marketplace if you pick them.
  3. But of course. I think there are two Ace comps, this is the one I have: Good stuff.
  4. I should probably just start a new post but I wanted to say, since acquiring this first 45 I've ended up getting every other 45 that's appeared on eBay. Have no idea if that exhausts his output but I'm glad to have them. Mr. Bo was indeed a very good bluesman, perhaps in debted to BB for his vocals but his own man on guitar. He made one full length CD: and it's really quite good.
  5. Not my scene but I saw this in an Ace Records newsletter as an upcoming reissue and wondered if anyone else knew/would be interested/excited: http://acerecords.co.uk/self-determination-music
  6. I spent the week listening to CT on my daily commute, and I have to say highlights were the OP disc that Shawn mentions, Serenade to a Bus Seat and especially Locksmith Blues, on Concord, co-led by Red Holloway.
  7. DL please Tom.
  8. Not a jazz operation, more a raucous rock n roll/R&B outlet but I was wondering especially if anyone in the NY area has experience with these guys. I placed an order online because they appeared to have a couple of CDs I was looking for but all I've gotten is the auto-email replies, the number on the website seems to be a private number now, and emails to the info-address and thru Facebook have not gotten a response. Order placed Monday night, attempts to communicate started Wednesday. I used Amex so I am not concerned about the charge but I am wondering if anyone knows if this is SOP for them or what. The only references I can find online is that this outfit got clobbered by Sandy years ago but I can't find any indication that it's a zombie website or anything. Anyone know? Thanks!
  9. Pretty cool; I'll also look forward to Wes Montgomery with Eddie Higgins.
  10. Well mileage does vary - I prefer Volume 1, for the lack of Beatles covers. Also find it interesting that a couple of the tracks on Volume 1 show the group using the same arrangements as on the studio recordings of nearly a decade before - Green Dolphin Street and Love for Sale IIRC.
  11. I recall some of those Criss Cross records as being pretty strong - Wish List and After Dark - but it's been quite a while since I've heard them. Should rectify that.
  12. I only knew of her thru her association with Madonna:
  13. Maybe it's my ears but isn't she singing "Bet Ya By Golly, Wow?" It isn't just the guy's falsetto that made the hit, it's the contraction. Thanks for exposing me to this bit of musical pre-history.
  14. IIRC, MG really likes that one but I always found it wanting. Not because Gene had an off night but because of the guests on the bandstand. I seem to recall finding that a little bit of his singing daughter, Niki Harris, went a long way, and Ernie Watts didn't help either. Gene, the rest of the rhythm section, Red Holloway, were great but Gene's final recording before he died is not one I return to with the frequency of most of the rest of his Concord catalog.
