He's done it all the fucking time since he came into the league. And yes, a strikeout in the fifth inning means exactly squat, whether there's a no-hitter or not. Its the fifth fucking inning! 56% of the game is a no-hitter - that's what I say BIG FUCKING DEAL! How many times does a pitcher take a no-hitter through five? Paps, the point is that both of these teams have highly selective hitters that wear down pitchers. Selective hitting leads to more pitches, which leads to worn down pitchers which lead to early exits for the starters, which results in playing mix & match with the relievers the rest of the way, which results in a slow game. That, and did anyone else notice the length of the commercial breaks? If you make three minute blocks in between every half inning, the game takes longer, too. West could bitch about it if he could point to anyone who steps out of the box incessantly or pitchers who work extra slow - like Matsuzaka. But there was none of that, and his complaints are a pile of steaming poo, just like most of his calls.

Wish I still had my vinyl to answer your question about vocals - since I don't even remember them, I am going to say there is at most two tunes, probably only one. I will say that the sound isn't the greatest, I recall a sort of harshness that wasn't very appealing. The PJs are all much better than this, and this is marginally better than the "Plays Hollywood and Broadway" album. I would recommend much more highly his Fresh Sound recording, Peace for Love.

My understanding is that the Fens is not a particularly "hot spot" outside of baseball season (its more or less residential) so I am not sure why a club like House of Blues would set up shop there when a sports bar would make more sense.

It will take a miracle, or the Yankee bullpen dropping a gigantic steaming turd, for the Red Sox to win this game now. Delcarmen does not belong on the major league roster. He belongs on the DL, in extended spring training, either admitting his shoulder still bothers him or figuring out where his fastball went. The guy throws mid-90s - normally. He sucked the second half of the year and decided to tell Francona that his shoulder has been hurting, oh, around the last week of the season. It is so obvious that he is still not right. He's been appalling all spring long, and he continues to barely reach 90 on the gun. Chalk this up to Francona and Epstein not recognizing when you have someone who is not remotely right and doesn't belong on the mound in games that count until he is right.

Boddie Recording studio still exists in Cleveland but they did not respond to my letter so I have no idea if its the same owners or the same family or anything. Bill Dowdy says that the studio was their rehearsal space and claimed that they did not know they were being recorded. I don't think that's true, the recording sounds very much like they knew they were being recorded and that there was a purpose behind it. For one thing, if it was a rehearsal, why such a brief rendition of "Hot Bread," why not jam on the blues for many choruses? What was interesting to hear from Bill was that the studio and equipment was new at the time and that the owner recorded them while they jammed - often with musicians passing through Cleveland including Roy Haynes, Donald Byrd and Lee Morgan. So I'll always dream that another acetate 78 will show up.
