Cedar Walton plays Strayhorn from 1988

Work Song is a Xanadu release. I'd like to know if these are legit licensed reissues or is there now a UK company that ignores copyright, too? -

Actually the label is listed, but only one disc comes up as available, and its not this one. -
I have the double LP in at least VG+ condition. Make me an offer.

Thanks for the explanation, Brownie. I saw this one listed on Amazon just a couple of days ago and was thrown off by the presence of Higgins and the fact that AMG doesn't list a "Strayhorn" release on any label - except for this release. If this is one of them Andorran outfits, I wonder if 1988 is the most recent recording they've claimed as "fair game". -
How ironic is it that we get this message from the guy who removed his "from my closet" thread and turned it into his very own blog and did it for the very reason that I have identified: A one-way conversation isn't really a discussion. At least you engaged people who commented on what you shared, as someone else said, Lester's writings are like a press release. I stand by my comment, even as he is free to keep posting his messages from the mount and ignoring anyone who wants to engage him on what he says.

The Newport Jazz shows available on Wolfgang's Vault are pretty amazing. The Messengers set with Hank and Lee is incredible as I had a private recording in far worse sound and incomplete. And the Silver show, playing tunes from Blowin The Blues Away before those indelible solos were even laid down is too incredible for words. "Sister Sadie" when it was that fresh - HELL YEAH! And best of all, the Wolfgang stream, recorded through Goldwave, has no distinct improvement over the FLAC files, so I'm able to make CDRs of these shows that sound excellent. Signal-to-noise is way up there because for whatever reason, the stream comes into my soundcard very loud and like I said, the stream may be lo-fi but my wife who has excellent ears couldn't tell a difference when I A/B'd the FLAC and the stream. So ... this is all to say that I've really enjoyed these and have been hoping that they'd start adding to the 1959 recordings. And now they finally have. The new recordings are: I think I'm going to stream the blues show first.

Count me in with Mr. Bresnahan as a Rotondi fan. Many years ago my wife and I saw him at Smoke with the re-formed George Coleman Octet. Great playing, and nothing like what Uncle Skid complains about. I recently stumbled across this 2009 release which turned out to be quite good: I hadn't even known that Rotondi started out with Brother Ray. Nice playing all around but LeDonne takes honors for his burning up the B3. There's a new Criss Cross record on the way too.

Here's something worth a perusal while we wait for Pitchers & Catchers to show up: Baseball America Top 100 Prospects for every year from 1990 on. You can also see top ten prospects by team for each year. A great reminder that no prospect, but most especially pitchers, are "can't miss". And fun to see when the prognosticators had some nobody ranked way ahead of future Hall of Famers.

And now its time to concentrate on the important things in life, like the best three words known to man: Pitchers and catchers. As in, pitchers and catchers report for Spring Training in 10 days. That ought to warm the hearts of any baseball fans digging out from 30 inches of snow (with more on the way).

I fucking love it. Eat shit, Manning. And I thought Manning didn't do the Manning Face anymore.

Album Covers That Make You Say "Uhhhh...."

I have two copies because I got suckered by a decision to reissue the LP under a different title (Swingin' Sound of Soul - no interracial dance party on the cover, just Griffin at the organ. It's nice, but not buy-it-twice nice. -
I'm just a figment of your imagination.

The guy's website doesn't have any info but he has reissued two discs from the 1963 Monterey Jazz Fest - Dizzy & MJQ. All questions ought to be answered once they add this release to the site - they include high-quality images of all inserts and text in both English and French.

Not to mention the Puppy Bowl and Lingerie Bowl

That pickoff was shades of the 2007 World Series. If they don't hold on they surely deserve all the criticism for not doing anything to ice the game, particularly the last two innings against a shitty bullpen. But if they can get it done, I like their chances to send it back to the big A. No one is scared of Saunders on the mound, the bats aren't dead like they were, and so long as Lester comes through on short rest, the pressure goes back full bore on the Angels. Hunter would spend the entire five hour flight screaming at his teammates about showing some sac. Way to go, Big Papi! That bat ain't dead yet.

Let me clarify - I got a CDR of that session years ago, it was accompanied by a photocopy of the photocopy cover. Thus I have a worse photocopy of Art holding his trumpet.
-
I have that bad photocopy.

Dave Henderson throws the first pitch in about 50 minutes. An inspired choice, now we'll see if Hendu, the spark when we needed one against the Halos in 1986, will inspire the team.

LaRussa, Smoltz and Lugo are bounced, and I am a happy boy. Now if the Angels eliminate the MFY and the Dodgers lose eventually, I'll be ecstatic. I do want to keep the Dodgers in position to eliminate the MFY if it comes to that, as I suspect the Dodger pitching staff is the only NL squad that could handle them. The Phils have the lineup but that bullpen is scary and the MFY have made such a habit of late inning comebacks that the Phils could only win if they build up a huge lead early.

How sad. I was hoping to find out that Oliver's version almost made it listenable. Turns out it made it worse.
