  1. Not a big fan of that side of jazz but welcome!
  2. ESPN is reporting that A-Rod's hip injury will require surgery and he'd be out for 10 weeks. No confirmation but its being reported that the team will make an announcement later today, suggesting that its accurate. If its true, this puts extra pressure on Teixeira as the very expensive lineup addition/new Yankee and that doesn't bode well as he's been such a consistent slow starter in his career, with his worst numbers in April and May. Can they afford to ask Teixeria to play third and have Swisher play first to ease the stress on the lineup? If the Yankees struggle out of the gate this would be a major problem, because of the competition in the division but also because of the pressure on Girardi and the team to win in their new stadium. So this is extra pressure on C.C. and A.J. to do well out of the gate.
  3. But didn't BG play and record into the 70s?
  4. I definitely can't see him giving The Ray. He couldn't even smile paternally at a bandmate. But I can't really blame him for taking this approach - if there are enough BG fans to keep him gigging regularly, more power to him. If his son had the same look, he won't have the same audience buying into the fantasy because there won't be any left by then.
  5. Bebe Neuwirth Sam Diane
  6. Sandra Dee Kiki Dee Kiki Calero
  7. Ray, if I'm not mistaken, we're only PM-ing the links, not making them public. For the band's sake, y'know.
  8. I love this paragraph! I'm pretty certain that is how I heard Mueller talk during a press conference.
  9. Isn't it astounding? And I got three copies in my email!
  10. I thought that the email from the UN department was a nice one, but this is even better. FBI Director Robert Mueller is reassuring me that it is safe to deal with the Nigerian Central Bank to collect my money!
  11. I have this on one of those "Live" LPs with a KB track and something else. I seem to recall that only one tune was properly identified as being Green - at least that was the conclusion of sometimes-resident guitar expert Jim R.
  12. Happy Birthday and may this be the year that the Rangers get their act together, their great prospects prosper and Nolan Ryan kicks some &^*(&( .... aw hell. Just have a Happy Birthday.
  13. So, while Harvey spent his public life praising cops, they repaid him by gossiping about him to reporters? Or perhaps his reason for praising cops wasn't respect for the job they do but because they didn't actually round him up on a public morals charge, thus keeping his secret. I find it interesting that so many closeted gay preachers get outed yet an equally prominent one, a broadcaster no less, manages to apparently go to his grave with nary a peep about his activities.
  14. Let me get this straight - this closeted gay person cruised the watering holes of Chicago journalist types? Is that how they found out? And how does it become "well-known"? Because the journalist types spread the story far and wide? What constitutes proof? Multiple reports from different people, all of whom say that Harvey picked up someone they knew? To say it was "well-known" mostly establishes that the people spreading the story wanted to believe it. But unless you tell me that this man indiscriminately picked up anyone with a Y chromosome and didn't care who knew it, I'm going to chalk up this story to the likelihood that your average Chicago journalist hated Harvey's politics and happily spread the story, making it "well-known".
  15. Can't say that I am impressed when I see this record with a grade of "VG++/NM cover" when there's such obvious ring wear in the picture, as well as edge wear on the spine.
  16. I never suffered such a fate but got concerned once when .50 international service fees showed up. I was afraid it was someone checking to see if it was a valid charge and then have big bucks start showing up but it turned out it was a Skype charge in addition to the $2.95 I had authorized.
  17. I don't know, Ray - did you find another shitty Gene Harris track to include? Aw hell, I'm in anyway. Very little time these days but I'll try to get some listening in during the weekend and participate in the discussion.
  18. "What a difference a day made" I'll be listening to Irene Reid's version of this when I get home, as, to quote a more recent pop song, "I'm walkin' on sunshine". After seemingly having two of my deals go into Witness Protection, I came into the office feeling like this may not work out, I had issues with the boss ... and then he tells me he's got two of my deals for confirmed FedEx pickups, and now 5 hours later I have four checks to pick up on Monday. Maybe a couple fall off but this is a great day and now I know things are going to be good.
  19. Well, they're playing baseball again, so its a happy day. And as soon as I have a couple of bucks handy, I'm buying two of this shirt:
  20. All of them, though I don't really get much from Misty, I would have taken another blues or a gospel number or even a different ballad. Favorite moments would be on the gospel tune at the end of the disc when Gene finishes the slow intro and starts to wail, and the spot during his solo on (I think) Uptown Sop when he goes from wailing to quiet, but with the same intensity. Like Blue Hour I've listened to this so much I can go back to it and remember exactly where every solo is going to go.
  21. Definitely a lot of stupid questions or poorly conceived questions, but on each question where you were allowed to give multiple answers, I had no problem doing that.
  22. I'm sure the most noteworthy quotes will be in the Jazztimes Before & After.
  23. Damn. Now I know why I was the runner up. I thought it was a long "G".
  24. Well I do not want to jinx anything, but after 6 days on the phones, I have three deals pending, two of which are confirmed for check pick ups by the end of the week, and I got two more apps today that the lawyer should approve, and that was off of only three new leads. For a guy with almost nothing in the bank and a mortgage payment due in a week, I feel surprisingly good that I am well on the way toward a measure of financial stability/security.
  25. Well, the bad news is that I didn't get it. The good news is that I finished second, so if there is any problem with the guy who they chose, they'll want me to take over immediately. And, more likely, if the project is a success, I am already at the top of the list for when they produce more audio books and use different announcers. Actually a pretty good result considering that my VO gigs have all been commercial spots previously, so having a good shot at a narration in the future is nice.
