  1. that "get paid after we get back" is bullshit. If I'm along for that ride, I plan to deposit my pay so I can see the benefits of compound interest in the blink of an eye.
  2. Just caught the top of the Sportscenter broadcast .... amazing. Too bad both those teams suck and one will lose to the Mets and the other will lose to the Cards. Dan, don't you think that both those teams have better pitching than the Mets and Cards??? I mean if Pedro doesn't get it together, no way Glavine's soft stuff away will fool anybody in the playoffs, it rarely has in the past...and who do the Cards have after Carpenter??? Still, it doesn't matter, an AL team will win it all... I don't think the pitching is very good anywhere in that league, but the Cards and Mets have superior offenses. Don't the Dodgers take every other week off and score about 2 runs in 6 games? That's the impression I've gotten. Meantime, I sure hope the Tigers hold off the Twins, so that its Minn - Yanks and Tigers - A's. Tigers won't get past the first round, so I'd rather see the Yanks deal with the Twins, who have been the hottest team for more than three months now. Even without Liriano, I think the Twins can take them. Otherwise, I hope the Tigers somehow completely collapse and the White Sox make it in. Anything to keep the Yanks from facing Detroit, which would be a cakewalk based on the season results and how Detroit has faded. You don't want the Yankees to get hot in the first round - it could carry them to #27 and we can't have that. Let's see them take the Twins and the A's and the Mets ... that will be a tough row to hoe.

  4. I am ashamed to admit I gave up the Giants - Eagles game in the third quarter. You should have seen my eyes bug out when I caught the score on the scroll later on. When does the next Sportscenter start? I still haven't seen how it happened.
  5. Fuck that shit!!!!!!! My friend and I are contemplating a Seminole boycott until Bowden and the rest of the dinosaurs are gone. Six years of shitty teams and crappy seasons is enough.
  6. Interesting news from Boston: Papelbon has announced that he is shutting it down for the remainder of the year, and that he intends to get ready to be in the rotation in 2007. HALLELUJAH! Assuming that they sign a decent closer, this is a huge upgrade for the rotation. Schilling and Paps at the top can match any other combination, and it allows Beckett the chance to make his adjustments without the pressure of being a number 1 or 2. If Beckett pitches smarter and to the level that his stuff suggests, that will be a topnotch 1-3, and that's without breaking the bank on Zito or Schmidt or that killer Japanese guy. As far as the pen goes, I'd love to get a Borowski or a Wickman or the like, someone who can do the job decently, and hopefully sometime next year or by 2008, Hansen will be ready to take over. But I really like the idea of 220 innings from Papelbon instead of 80. He's not your typical closer with two pitches, and he's not a failed starter either. And as a starter, he'll get into a steady program of work that should minimize the chance of pushing a tired arm into another near-dislocated shoulder.
  7. Thanks to everyone for their birthday wishes, particularly Lon and Robert for posting terrific photos of two of my all-time favorites, B.B. King and Gene Harris! It was a nice, relaxing day capped off with a very nice dinner with my bride. Didn't even bother me that I had to pay for dinner since Sue promised to pay for our anniversary dinner on the 22nd, and suggested Ruth Chris steakhouse, which is way more expensive than the little italian place I chose. Among the loot was a nice sized check from Mom (looks like I'll head to Borders for the buy 3 get the fourth free promotion this weekend); the Impulse Records book from one brother; the new Scott Hamilton and Houston Person/Bill Charlap CDs from my other brother, and as my own gift, I picked up two Ace compilations of Freddy King Federal singles. I gotta say that #41 had a completely different feel than 40 did, and it feels a helluva lot better than it did a week ago now that me and the Mrs. have mostly set things right again.
  8. Its been a while so I need to pull this out. I remember it as a nice date in a late 60s way, but don't recall how much space Ponder has.
  9. Whenever LD plays a bop tune in concert he says, "not recommended for fusion or confusion musicians". He hates fusion, he hates smooth, and don't call him acid jazz either, cause its "just regular jazz".
  10. We're talking about the keyboardist who played with B.B. in the early 70s? If you go to Rhapsody.com, you can check out this album: Kind of a mixed bag, as I think Levy has gotten into the acid jazz scene, but there are quite a few good tracks on this disc, with guests Lowell Fulson, Albert Collins, Ronnie Earl, B.B., Freddie Hubbard (one of those acid jazz tunes that I couldn't deal with) and several others. The cool thing about Rhapsody is that the free account allows you to play 25 tracks a month, so you can select the entire album and listen to every track and decide if you want to purchase.
  11. Its actually not so easy, between the less than ideal search engine and the fact that search terms must be four or more characters, leaving "New" and "CDs" out. However, I tried "York" and "Stores" and searched in topic title only and came up with: http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...;hl=YORK+STORES http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...c=20226&hl= http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...ic=7112&hl=
  12. Thanks Chuck.
  13. Who are the sidemen on the unissued Foster session?
  14. Board member Brownie snagged a copy for me, iirc. Very unfortunate if its not readily available now.

  16. That appears to be a very strange expression on her face. What could she be thinking? "Dude, are you finished yet?" Or "get the hell off my dress!"
  17. The sample of "Monday Monday" is KILLER!!! Its like the polar opposite of "Stormy Monday Blues": Monday's here! Allright!!
  18. No, but this goes near the top of the list for sure. A great disc that is not to be missed is Very Saxy which features Ricky Ford on one disc and Houston Person on the other. I wonder if Plas and Red play together or separately.
  19. He was saying that Baby Face was signed to Chess after the Argo LPs, but Chess wouldn't record him? Or was he signed earlier but Chess never recorded him? I was very happy to secure a copy of Baby Face's Vee Jay 45, Why/Can't Keep From Loving You. He doesn't sound like an instrumentalist who can just carry a tune, but has a strong Charles Brown/Ray Charles thing going on. I still can't decide if the dominant influence is Brown and I hear Ray only because they both came out of the church, or if Baby Face was influenced separately. Now if I could just find that other 45 he recorded on Hollywood Records.
  20. For Old Times' Sake, The Truth Patrol is Back Again We at the truth patrol have done extensive study and have determined the cause of Mr. Top 1% IQ Score's reading comprehension problem. He is incapable of reading anything that refutes his ill-conceived notions. Let's review: Tim Wakefield's ERA is 4.14, which ranks him in the top 20 of the American League Tim Wakefield's ERA before his injury was 3.86 He has 8 losses. In six of those losses, he averaged over 7 IP, fewer than four runs allowed, and received a grand total of 4 runs of support while he was in the game. This is absolutely hysterical. I have quoted statistics ad nauseum to support my points. You have not cited a single statistic whatsoever. Now you throw around charges of "lying and deception." I have had a really rough couple of days so I have to thank you for the opportunity to More hysterical foolishness, from the master. Red Sox record when Tim Wakefield was injured: 58-36, 2.5 games ahead of the Yankees Red Sox record when Jason Varitek and Trot Nixon were injured: 62-41, in a statistical tie with the Yankees for first place Red Sox record from that date until Varitek and Nixon returned: 11-23 and that record includes the loss of Ortiz, Ramirez, Gonzales, Schilling, Crisp, Pena, Lester, et. al. Please continue to make tasteless references like "Cancer Kid," "Cancer Boy" "Chemo unit in the clubhouse" and now "sent running for the chemo machine." Long term and valued members Big Al and Dave James have asked you to leave. Brad has suggested you are courting banishment from the community. These posts have been brought to the attention of the owner of the board.
  21. Well, Henin-Hardenne got a gift from her opponent, but now she has to face Sharapova, who looks primed to finally win another Slam. I know I'll be rooting for her, not only cuz she's really good and awful but also because I lost all respect for Henin-Hardenne a few years back when, iirc, she was playing one of the Williams sisters, who held her hand up that she wasn't ready to receive serve, she served anyway and hit an ace, the referee never saw she had her hand up and H-H never admitted it. Stunning and utterly classless show of "sportsmanship". If I've butchered that story, please correct me, but that's the gist of what happened and I lost all respect for her from that moment on. I hope Maria roles over her ass.
  22. I just saw the new Peter Graves version, shades of "Have you ever seen a grown man naked?"
  23. What is up with that re-design of the zebra uniforms? Looks stupid as far as I am concerned. its not a team uniform you freshen up every decade or so! It should be straight black and white stripes as it always has been. Did they get those cheap from the XFL?
