I'm not a Marlins fan but if I had left the PC on last night I was going to come up and post. What a tremendous performance, and the way the Marlins have played this year, with that payroll (and owner, a true jackass) is just amazing. What is killing me is that Hanley Ramirez and Anibel Sanchez were the two most important prospects the Sox shipped to Florida for Beckett & Lowell.

Paul, I'm glad that you have taken to heart the lesson you've learned. Do take care of yourself. My brother was very ill starting a few weeks ago and I believe that if his friend had not come to check on him, he would not have gone to the hospital on his own. As it was, he was in real bad shape and while he was discharged one week later (just about a week ago) they still have no clue for what his problems are. Knowing how bad off he was when he was admitted, its hard to imagine what might have happened if his friend had not come by. I'm like you in not beng anxious to get medical treatment for anything but hopefully these two cases will help cure me of that before its me who's getting frightening diagnoses. -
I just realized this is in the Musician's Forum, so perhaps I shouldn't have shared. Oh well. But hey! It was still show biz ...

I assume this qualifies ... My first radio gig was at a country station in Tallahassee, FL. The PD didn't think "Dan Gould" sounded "right" for a country audience (guess he assumed a Jewish background) so I decided to use my mother's maiden name and became Dan Cunningham. I figured it would be easier to remember than a completely made up name, but there was still at least one moment where I said, "I'm Dan ... Cunningham" and I felt like such a fool, not knowing my name. It helps, however, if you say this at 3:50 AM and no one is listening. I was damn glad though when my next gig allowed me to use my real name. Much easier to keep track of.

I'd like to say no way, but we're playing the part of the paper tiger at the moment. I won't be surprised if y'all do sweep, but I'll hope otherwise. Well, its Contreras vs Kyle Snyder which should be a mismatch but Contreras has had a pretty lousy second half. Snyder's an interesting project - former number one pick, unbelievable number of arm surgeries, KC gave up on him, but what I've seen suggests that there's still some talent there. Four decent pitches in his arsenal, but he seems to have trouble getting past the 5th inning before getting knocked around. Then he puts up numbers like his last start (7 shutout innings, 2 hits, 8 Ks) and you think maybe this guy can be successful in the future. I'm actually kinda glad he's on the roster, I think he could develop into a Bronson Arroyo kinda guy - spot start, long relief - maybe a solid #4 type. After his brutal stretch of injuries, you gotta pull for him.

I agree with just about everything Paul says except that last bit. Forget the bacon, give me a PB and banana sandwich (and it doesn't need to be done up Elvis style - you can skip 911 and just call the coroner after one of those bad boys.) I used to prefer chunky style until I got sick of picking bits out of my teeth. Now its smooth for me. Chocolate-PB ice cream is definitely ambrosia, but my typical way of consuming PB is spread on Egg & Onion matzo. Also excellent on a toasted sesame bagel, where the PB gets soft and gooey.

I know its an impossible dream, but its nice to take the first two from Chicago. The team hasn't lay down yet ... even if Schilling is likely to miss at least another start, and while the Sox just released an encouraging report on Papelbon (nothing structural, no tears, he needs rest and a shoulder strengthening program), with no Schill and no Paps, its really impossible to think they can play well enough to beat the guys in front of them. But what pitching in these first two games! Tavarez pitches 6+ innings and allows 2 ER, and tonite, a kid (Gabbard) who wasn't supposed to even reach AAA before next June pitches 7 shut out innings in a 1-0 win. We go for the sweep Wednesday night on ESPN.

sounds flukish to me. Yeah tough luck. BUT ... he was swimming above the beast in quite shallow water, with a camerman in front. It seems far more than likely to me that the ray was responding to what it perceived was a threat. If Irwin had so much of the respect and love for wildlife - as he was always banging on - then he would've made sure he was out of harm's way. Regardless of what sort of threat - deadly or otherwise - it posed. But no. How could it be otherwise with a bloke who may have had deep and righteous conservation/wildlife aims, but who provided entertainment based almost solely on tormenting animals? Not a lot of respect there, IMO. His whole schtick was based on NOT giving wildlife the sort of space his so-called respect would have semed to make a no-brainer. The fluke part was the barb to the heart, not that the stingray reacted as it did. It seems to me that by doing his "shtick" he got more people interested in wildlife, and did much conservation work. His shtick might have been what got him attention, it hardly seems like that's all there was to him.

Nice win by my Seminoles! I didn't feel very good after the first half but the offense managed to execute a little and the defense was just outstanding (what did they give up, 12 yards total in the second half, and 7 of them and came on Miami's last ditch chance? Unbelievable). while the score was similar, its nice to see this game was much better played than last year's, although neither offense looked great ... Feels sweet to finally win at the Orange Bowl!

Get well soon, Paul. As I've aged I've wondered if I would end up dealing with kidney stones ... sounds like this may be an easier way to go, if its too big to come out "the usual way". That is a pain I don't even like to imagine. -
Maybe it is news if he's taken a turn for the worse.

No it wasn't. The ray was spooked by having someone so close above it, and a camerman in front. It was reacting to a threat; it wasn't random. Read the article posted by 7/4, Kenny. the fluke part was it going through the rib cage and hitting his heart and him dying: sounds flukish to me.
