  1. W'oh! Just found this on a Brit website: Hank with Monk? Can that be right? Or did they throw in some Hank radio broadcast from somewhere else? I gotta say, the company may be slimy - I'm certain they have no plan to pay royalties to anyone, and they are obviously going after things that haven't even reached 50 year PD status - but I am really wondering what they're going to offer in the future.
  2. Decided to check out Da Bastids© a couple of days ago and stumbled across what looks to be a relatively new Spanish operation putting out some interesting things. Here's what a search at the Groove showed: I recognize a lot of these titles as being fairly common trade/bit torrent fodder, and I think the Zorthian's Ranch Bird material got its own discussion recently. Does anyone know about future releases this company is planning? Do they have a web presence? I was really surprised, given their business plan, that they are not listed in the Absolutedistribution.com site (Jordi's operation). PS - gotta love how the Groove deals with the fact that these are private recordings:
  3. "Sinful" and "codependent" - that's a new one. Care to explain how it became "sinful"? Considering the way cell phones are prevalent in high school, I'm surprised its not over 90% for college.
  4. If you are talking about competitive spirit, well, Borg had none of it. Not an ounce. Otherwise he wouldn't have failed to win a single US Open. Otherwise he wouldn't have quit just because McEnroe had demonstrated that he couldn't beat him. And I say that as a huge Borg fan of the time. I patterned my game after him originally, and of course I was thrilled and amazed at the five set win over McEnroe. But when it comes to true competitive spirit, Borg did not have it.
  5. So do I, and I haven't looked at the Globe website yet. Meanwhile, ESPN was reporting that Schilling will skip Monday's start. The injury list has officially reached epic proportions.
  6. My brother was diagnosed with a different form of non-Hodgkins Lymphoma ten years ago, and I'm pretty sure had a much worse prognosis than Lester did. One bone marrow transplant later (from me) and he was 100% healthy again and cancer free. So there definitely is hope.
  7. It's official: Jon Lester's been diagnosed with Lymphoma. At least its described as "treatable".
  8. I did. Does NOT suck big time. But I still don't plan to buy it again.
  9. Harvey Jimmy Stewart Garlic Eaters
  10. congrats to Andre for pulling another one out, but I have a hard time seeing him pulling off a run like Connors. Not sure about the draw, but I don't think he can physically handle much more.
  11. Pam Dawber Mork Peter Tork
  12. There might be a couple of people here interested in that album - I used a cut on last month's BFT.
  13. Does that mean I can still dream of the day that the Grant Green - Gene Harris date will be released?
  14. You're right. When the Sox traded for Javy Lopez, the Orioles were supposed to get the Canadian Babe Ruth, Adam Stern (a Rule V draftee from the Braves, I believe, who finally had the chance to resume his development at Pawtucket but hadn't really shown too much). The Devil Rays, who believed that the Red Sox "tampered" with Julio Lugo while the Devil Rays were shopping him (they supposedly asked his agent if he'd be interested in a long-term deal with Boston), decided to throw a wrench in the monkey works and put in a waiver claim on Stern. So the Orioles had to agree to wait til the end of the season when there is no waiver process to get Stern. So they'll either get this catcher through waivers and complete the deal, or else the Devil Rays will try to screw us again, and we'll wait til October to complete the deal.
  15. Did I hear correctly on the radio something to the effect that Boston has lost 8 of 9 of its normal starters due to injuries? If so, !!! Let's see: Varitek Nixon Ortiz Manny Alex Gonzales Wily Mo Pena (who was Nixon's replacement) Youklis was violently ill recently Crisp missed a game or two with a sore shoulder following a diving catch The only regular not to miss time is Mark Loretta. But it is a crazy game. Last night, they went home to face the leading Cy Young candidate, Holliday, going for Toronto against Julian Tavarez, starting in Wells' place. They'd scored something like 9 runs in the previous six straight losses ... and scored six off of Holliday to beat him.
  16. Are the Tigers starting Rogers in any of these games? I HOPE SO!!! Hope he gets his ass kicked, too! I don't think Rogers pitched this series, Al. Meanwhile, the Wells deal is done, but interestingly, the Red Sox released a statement saying he was dealt to San Diego for the proverbial "player to be named". If its not the catcher, who would it be, and I have to wonder whether LA or St Louis stepped up (which was being reported earlier) and forced San Diego to sweeten the deal. Certainly seems strange when a name was widely reported, and then when the deal is struck there is no name announced. What will suck is that this is likely to doom us to a third place finish, especially with Lester out. This team as originally constituted hardly deserves that fate. It takes losing 60% of our starting rotation at one point, 100% of our outfield at another, to possibly end up trailing Toronto. That'll be allright though - we should have approximately 30 million more to spend on salaries next year, and Toronto's GM has already acknowledged he doesn't have the cash to make the big splash that he did last year.
  17. Are there any radio broadcasts of the Festival, and if so, are any of them web broadcasts? I know that the Festival was broadcast in the past, as I've seen tapes of various artists in various years circulating.
  18. I don't usually EQ anything, what I look for on downloads is to make sure that the levels are decent. I hate burning CDs off of shows with horrible low levels. In Goldwave, choose the entire song, then Effect -> Volume - > Maximize. Enter a number (I usually go with something around -.25, which is 97% of the max - you won't clip anything then) and see what it does. Do the same thing for each track. BTW, don't forget to burn Disc At Once (no gaps between tracks) whenever you are burning a concert. That is, unless you like to have two seconds of silence inserted in the middle of applause.
  19. He does have a better defensive rep, but I saw that he's hit pretty well at AA (batting .276 with 8 home runs, 33 RBIs, and a .394 on-base percentage at Double A Mobile) so there's hope that there's an upside to his offense. He's also only been at AAA for a short while.
  20. Freedom and the Woody Shaw two-fer would work for me.
  21. that maybe so but what's the point of planning a live CD if taping/trading gets too widespread?
  22. Tallahassee Lassie Lassie Jimmy Who Fell Down the Well
  23. A thousand
  24. Well, his record was better than some of his other stats would suggest. He has trouble commanding the strike zone and would get into high pitch counts and rarely work past the 5th inning. What was impressive was his ability to get out of trouble. All in all, being a 22 year old rookie, its been a decent debut, that's for sure. Hopefully this is all just a bump in the road and he'll get the chance to build on this and become a solid #3. Now watch for Heatwave to show up with his blather. After ripping Big Papi when the man may have a serious heart condition, God only knows what he'll say about a kid who could be facing cancer.
  25. He's talking about how The Sermon and House Party contents were handled when they became RVGs. People sold the original reissues only to discover that some tunes didn't appear on the RVG and now they were out the discs.
