  1. What are the details of this recording from 1973? I don't rely on discographies but when I was interested in appearances by saxophonist Arnold Sterling, eBay listings were my friend, for seeing the credits listed and in some particularly sharp photos, reading liner notes. In fact there turned out to be Sterling appearances that Discogs didn't know about. I would think it's possible to track down this recording and puzzle out if it's "a" Charles Brown or "the" Charles Brown.
  2. My friend from Ukraine just sent me confirmation that he received from a Danish TV researcher: No more Hank Mobley exists on video. He also provided the official description of the episode of JazzBeat it came from (via Google Translate): Sent 1st time: 22-04-1968 [Description:] The Jazzbeat editors visit Jazzhus Montmartre in St. Regnegade, Copenhagen, where the South African pianist Dollar Brand ( Abdullah Ibrahim ) plays his own composition; restaurateur Herluf Kamp-Larsen tells a little about the jazz house, and American tenor saxophonist Hank Mobley plays Gershwin's 'Summertime' accompanied by pianist Kenny Drew, bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen and drummer Al Tootie Heath [Cast:] Beefeaters; Hans Mobley, tenor saxophonist
  3. Yeah I can't even find the current list for the 2022 season. Who is up after Jim?
  4. Methinks the music is entirely above them but sizzle and mic blowouts, they hear that shit right quick. (And RVG doesn't stop the take or ask for another on a mic explosion?)
  5. I agree it did feel a little "old hat" after the first couple.
  6. 4 WS championships since your last, pal. And more than any other team in the 21st century.
  7. Mets on the cusp after a Scherzer start is certainly a delightful way to start the morning.
  8. VLC is another software that works well to extract or convert file formats.
  9. If shelter is pre-built I'd think that would come into play too. At least the style of the shelter.
  10. A single record for the mythical island of despair? OK today it's https://www.discogs.com/release/1165468-The-Gene-Harris-Trio-Plus-One-The-Gene-Harris-Trio-Plus-One I would also like multiple copies and a way to visit any nearby island whose resident is on record as calling Blue Hour a "snooze". Gene and Stanley wailing on the blues in a club setting will set them straight. When I am convinced rescue is hopeless, I would then ask where I could exchange it for Blue Hour
  11. I found this rather interesting ... ignoring the whole "cheating" allegation this guy makes a good case here that post-sticky stuff ban by MLB Chapman and Cole have been very different pitchers than they were before. I wonder how much the Yanks will regret that contract as natural age decline inevitably starts (this is his age 32 season, I believe six left).
  12. I won't say I love every Freddie Roach album but his first 4 on BN are enough to make a strong jazz reputation, IMO. (Even if he did cover the Junior Parker hit "Next Time you See Me".)
  13. Maybe this is well known but I just verified with formerly active member HaroldZ that Connie Lester, mostly playing alto with Jimmy McGriff on a couple of 70s recordings is the same guy.
  14. Ah, the kind of bow-tying that compilers enjoy and participants are usually "whatever". Edit to add: oh how I wish there were more Conrad Lester out there.
  15. It's track 10 from this but that makes your clue about guitarist being most famous player not really appropriate. KB played on four of that album's tracks and not this one.
  16. Tracks 1 and 8 are fine. I don't know that I really care for the singer on number 8 but I'd listen to him all day long before voluntarily listening to the tracks in between. Track 1 I actually found myself motivated to try to figure out the answer but ultimately I am clueless for "no later than early sixties, and the guitarist is the best known player and organist teetering on edge of being forgotten". I first thought about the Peri Lee Blackwell album I tracked down a year or so ago with Clifford Scott, which had shorter tunes, too. Then I thought about Trudy Pitts and Rhoda Scott - Pitts doesn't fit for recording with a sax or for the timing and Rhoda Scott has recorded in the last decade if not more recently. So she ain't teetering yet, IMO and her earliest recordings don't have tune timings to match. So, clueless on track 1 but I did dig it a lot and look forward to the reveal.
  17. Fans everywhere appreciate accomplishments. Doesn't make him a beloved icon to Rangers fans. Maybe if he reaches Pujols levels of accomplishment.
  18. With all due respect to Judge, "most iconic and beloved" is begging for the qualifier "in New York" or "among Yankee fans". He's 30 years old and is sitting at 220 homers. As an example, after David Ortiz age 31 season he had won two World Series and was a beloved icon in ... Red Sox Nation. For Judge, setting aside 2020, he's had three seasons of health and two seasons of not-so-much. Who knows what the future brings? Can we save "most iconic and beloved" for when he's closer to the end of his career and a tad higher up the career lists?
  19. I was going to upload something new to celebrate the publishing of my revision to the Percy France wiki page but Hurricane Ian interrupted ... this is the Sammy Price Two-Tenor Boogie, "Shakin' That Thing" - Percy gets second solo and really wails from about 2:40 to the vocal reprise.
  20. At this point is it possible Pujols reaches 704 and Judge ends up at 61? I am probably jinxing it now and Judge will get his tater and Pujols will be done. Can I make a Hot Stove prediction early? Judge will use the Red Sox to extract $450 or $500 million from the Yankees, just as Teixeira did many moons ago.
  21. Nice. I dig Cory's sax and he should be an excellent solo voice alongside yours, Michael. Get the band to central Florida and I'd be there.
  22. Thanks. Getting caught up on reporting of the effects at Fort Myers and Sanibel and feeling very fortunate that this beast didn't come ashore on the path I first posted. The barn/apartment might not have survived and you can extrapolate the effects on the horses and possibly the family members living in the apartment. As it is I am getting out for about $1500 cash out of pocket, including the new generator, not even close to the hurricane deductible. And all the animals big and small are ok.
  23. Dan appreciates the concern, and our people and animals are all fine. We got power back last night at 7 pm so exactly three days without. TTK mentioned the cool temperatures in the aftermath and they were a blessing though the house still warms up substantially when it is mid-80s in the afternoons. The generator never did start. But Sue heard of a feed store offering the few they had left for "cost". I don't know if it was really "cost" but she got the last one, and they were giving them out fully gassed so I'll chalk it up to "people helping people ... with a little profit tacked in." We were very stressed out Friday and Saturday because once we got the fridge running and cooling back down we were about to be out of water for horses - I mean, after Saturday breakfast, we had no water at all to fill buckets or outdoor tanks. We had successfully wired the old generator into the well pump during the last storm but everything she tried would not work. And she went out trying to find the right cable and all she could find was the four-prong plug for the 220 volt output. Plan B became going to a nearby farm that had power and bringing back 100 gallon tub with whatever water stayed inside on the trip (not to mention making the pickup truck unusable until that water was used up). However late Saturday morning I was explaining our woes to our neighbor who casually mentioned that he is an electrician and probably has the kind of wire we need to run 220 volts into a pump. 30 minutes later, water. That was people helping people. We filled the tanks up with water but decided since we had so much work yet to do that we would get the fridge on again and take showers end of day. The electrician warned us to kill the breaker to the pump in case the power comes up, so when we are restarting the pump ... it turned out power had come on 5 minutes before. So her aunt and uncle are calling because the power came on and then it went off (and Sue found no labels on the electric box near the pump so she had killed all the breakers). I shudder to think that without the breaker off we might have been sending 220 volts back at whoever was turning on our power at the same time we were trying to restore water and per a youtube video she watched, would have killed him/her. Sue and I restored fencing for King's backyard. We have a handyman who fixed half the shingles yesterday afternoon and has on section of ridge caps left, plus what I am guessing is about 80 linear feet of siding on the apartment/garage side of the barn. (He's also replacing my brake pads at no charge - he installed new brakes on Susan's truck Friday afternoon, charging her $100, and checked mine and said rotors are fine, pads are at the end and said he'd do mine for free if I just get the pads. Given its 93,000 miles and all I have ever done on this Kia is to change oil, replace tires once, replace a battery twice, brakes gotta be close to the end, so I jumped at that offer. He's a good guy and when he's done with the work he's gonna get a little extra $$ from me. So, bottom line, all is good, and we should be restored to pre-hurricane condition by mid-week. Plus new brakes on both vehicles.
  24. Posting by phon5. People and animals safe. Damage to house shingles and barn/apartment siding. Dog run fence also. Generator will not start. Susan hunting for carburetor cleaner. If we can't get it running we have big prob lems for well water for horses not to mention refrigeration for all the food we prepped. Glad others are OK.
  25. Major congrats, Mike, even if its not all done.
