  1. No, but come to think of it, with the Astro's turnaround, its still possible that you could see the rocket at Fenway in October. That would be a helluva sight.
  2. No question. One of the reasons that there weren't a lot of moves was the surprising number of teams that still think they are in contention. That will change before August is out, and yes, some of those players will be available. I wouldn't be surprised if Soriano goes once Texas fades out of the race (sorry Big Al, but this isn't a secret to you, is it?) and maybe Billy Wagner gets offered when the Phils fade, too. Maybe the Sox deal for Wagner if Foulke doesn't return on time or doesn't show a return to form? If I am not mistaken, though, a trade does have to be made by the end of August, because post-season rosters can only come from players on the roster on September 1, isn't that right?
  3. More on Palmiero from today's NYT: This may completely destroy his chances of reaching the HoF. What a legacy, from pointing his finger at Congress, to testing positive for the same steroid that Ben Johnson used, and something that's not in any dietary supplement. Pathetic.
  4. Just keep taking care of the Yanks, and you'll start climbing closer to the Wild Card, and help the Sox establish some control over first place. Meanwhile, the Yanks declined Bernie's option, which was no surprise, but apparently Bernie plans to keep playing and his agent seems to think that he'll just move to a corner outfield position, and Bernie thinks he might stay with the Yanks anyway ... but how could that happen with Matsui presumably re-signing, and Sheffield still with another year in right? Kinda sad watching Bernie these past months, and the Yanks may regret not making a move for a center fielder before the deadline.
  5. That would be unfortunate, as the proper contraction is "y'all"... ← Actually it's "yawl", a distinct word, not a contraction. But render unto Caesar and all that. Gotta let massa think we's all happy and educated and shit. ← Is that a Texas thing or what? Everywhere I've been in the South, its "y'all" - a contraction of "you all".
  6. Got em today also and very much looking forward to them. And having hung with Marty a bit, who knows, I may have an insight to some of the artists he likes so maybe I'll even get a few this time. Or else, I'll just guess Rollins on every cut. Gotta be right on at least one.
  7. How the heck did this get in there?
  8. Definitely things of interest here but most of all, Mosaic deserves a for creating this new web page in the first place.
  9. I don't think the O's will mind giving Sosa some time off. Heaven knows, as a Cub fan, I was ready to give him the rest of his career off. That really sucks about Rafi. Just when I was hoping Baltimore could turn it around and get back in the thick of it. They still might, I guess, but their momentum has been vaporizing. BTW, if you Google "Joe Morgan" "Jealous" "Ryne Sandberg" (or try "Petty") you'll see at least some recent articles on that whole deal. But it's been pretty obvious from various interviews and comments over the years that Big Red Morgan doesn't like sharing the love. Except his man-love for Barry Bonds or Pujols, but that's another story. ← I haven't noticed your posts before, evonce, but I like your style. And being a Cub fan doesn't hurt either (born into a Cub family, I took a detour to another team with a history of woe, though I'll always root for the Cubbies.)
  10. Breaking news on ESPN.com: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2121659 You gotta be a flipping moron to get caught this year. The only positive I can see is that maybe now Congress will call Sammy back, see if they can break him.
  11. Well, it may be, but this is the first time I've heard of it that I can think of. But all the more reason to dislike Morgan, as Sandberg should have been a first-ballot election, and Morgan's "absence" should have occured two years ago.
  12. Wow! At this rate, it will probably top Bird with Strings as CP's biggest seller. Next you'll tell me that Herbie/Christina is number one.
  13. Well of course, McCarver's schtick grew old a long, long time ago! Actually, my distaste for Morgan really started when he covered the College World Series some time ago and had some really obnoxious things to say about my alma mater, Florida State.
  14. What's this about Joe Morgan? I've grown to despise the man as an analyst, never more so than when he defended A-Rod's glove-slap in the ALCS by asking, "So he's more of a man for letting himself be tagged out?" But if you're saying that Joe Morgan didn't show because he thinks Rhyno doesn't belong ...
  15. Glad to see the album is being spotlighted, but when will the website be updated? I couldn't find any reference to the band on the home page.
  16. Shouldn't this be changed to "they had people with sensitivities like Dan Gould's in mind"? I've butted heads with Clem on this board, but these kinds of behind-the-back insults are lame. Guy ← And how exactly is it a behind-the-back insult??? Last time I checked, this was a public forum. If Clem is lurking or ever comes back, it will be right there for him to see.
  17. Shouldn't this be changed to "they had people with sensitivities like Dan Gould's in mind"? I've butted heads with Clem on this board, but these kinds of behind-the-back insults are lame. Guy ← Actually I believe it was Allen Lowe who welcomed the possibility of an ignore function for ol' Clem. As I say, I haven't used it yet.
  18. I think they had people like Clem in mind when they designed the "Ignore" function. With my self-imposed exile from the Politics Forum, he's the sole reason I'd ever consider using that option. I'll probably draw him out of hiding by saying this, but perhaps I won't have to?
  19. Man what a snooze-fest the trade deadline turned into. I can't believe the Sox did nothing to improve the bullpen so Schilling can go to the rotation where he belongs. But at least they were smart enough not to deal Manny. I still can't believe those rumors had so much leg to them. Mike Cameron and Aubrey Huff for a certain Hall of Famer? Maybe Ortiz getting walked four times with Manny out of the linup made them wake up to what their offense would be like without him. And the Yanks - I guess they figure that they've got enough warm bodies to pitch that with Pavano and maybe Wright seemingly nearly ready to return, they didn't really have to do anything. Still, its the first trade deadline in the Torre era that the Yanks aren't in the lead for one playoff spot or another.
  20. That's exactly what I was going to say.
  21. This sounds about right. Whenever I hear Keith Jarrett, I usually think of butt loads.
  22. Although the film is too heavy-handed in making its points, I liked the use of "So What" and "Take Five" in Pleasantville.
  23. No, you haven't missed anything. The compiler has failed to post answers and missed or ignored repeated requests for them. Perhaps this thread can serve as yet another reminder.
  24. I was a bone marrow donor for my younger brother (who thankfully is now a lawyer and 8 years cancer-free, after being given a diagnosis of a 20% five year survival rate, 40% with a successful bone marrow transplant). Unless things have radically changed, I wouldn't compare it to blood donation, unless they are taking blood through high guage needles shoved a few dozen times into your ass. Just wanted to mention that. Of course I encourage anyone to register for the bone marrow registry - in fact, ironically enough, today I am wearing my "Save a Life - Get Tissue Typed" t-shirt.
  25. And he can't even help in the immediate future, like Saturday, when they have no starter yet, cuz he hasn't even pitched since July 15 and needs some work in the minors before going to the Bronx.
