CD Baby arrived today! Yipeee!!!! And they knew what part of the order was important as This Is The Place was right on top as I pulled the CDs out of the mailer. Gotta get a couple of errands done but I expect to be parked in front of the stereo about 2 pm, hopefully giving me time to post before I have to head to work.

I'm 100% with you, Al. What he got from the arbitrator is a joke - and didn't I hear something about "his suspension being taken into account if he fails to reach certain contractual incentives"??? What the fuck is that? The only thing to look forward to is the welcome he will get from the Fenway Faithful, on national TV, tonite. I hope the booing never lets up, from the moment he steps onto the field til he departs.

Its been less and less time, especially this year starting with my recent job change and compounded by the fact that I keep downloading concerts at a rate much greater than the available time for listening.
-
Is it a requirement that we actually listen before posting a review? I mean, I know I'm going to dig the album, why should I have to wait for the damn USPS to get the package from CD Baby to me????

You are very much welcome, Paul. I did enjoy compiling this disc and did very much want to program some diversity to maintain interest. As for the high number of cuts, I prefer that BFTs in general should keep 'em coming. There is no track over 8 minutes on either of the two discs and most are safely below that limit. In any event, I really enjoyed your comments concerning the 6 tracks you knew. Not once did you name any names nor post any links but you left no doubt, in my mind at least, that you nailed those tracks. And thanks especially for cluing me on track #11, to an alternative version of that blues by a tenor player that I had forgotten about and to the trumpeter led date that I indeed have on LP. ← I recognized that clue, and based on the comments so far, I have quite a few tracks from this BFT in my collection, and no excuse for not recognizing them.

Enumclaw-area animal-sex case investigated
Dan Gould replied to Johnny E's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Speaking of sex with animals, did anyone else catch the 20/20 episode that aired last weekend in which they tried to track down the spammer who sent porn email to the daughter of some mom in Texas? The site they were promoting? Spunk Farm. -
'Walking in Memphis' singer shot in head, survives
Dan Gould replied to mgraham333's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I remember when he had his big moment in the sun. Turned out that he was the brother of our family doctor in CT. Good to know he's OK, and even if he hasn't had another hit and has basically fallen prey to the Curse of Best New Artist, I don't think he's doing too badly, financially or otherwise: -
I just did a google on Lisa Guerrero and the image I posted does not come up. Furthermore, the first picture I posted and the picture you posted look like the same girl to me, and I found that picture by googling "Carolyn Hughes" not Lisa Guerrero.
-
The first picture is Ms. Hughes.

I was watching Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World this past weekend and realized that in the scene when Sylvester finally hears the phone ringing, there's a piano trio playing a blues. I searched IMDB but couldn't find any listing of who it might be.

Peter Jennings has died of Lung Cancer
Dan Gould replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Perhaps that's because he was a high school dropout? Very sad news, I guess the cancer must have been quite advanced to kill him in fewer than four months. -
Here she is, Marty: Not as purty as the other "reporter" the Post writer mentions: A more interesting story came out of the Boston Herald last week, which basically claimed that John Henry was so personally appalled at Derek Lowe's off-field behavior last year that he specifically ordered that Lowe not be re-signed. Among his transgressions: showing up at a charity golf tournament hosted by the Sox with a woman not his wife. Lowe reportedly wasn't concerned about Henry's reaction, saying "He's a guy, he'll understand." This same "friend" went on to say that Lowe has a "drinking problem".

Thanks for the pics, Mark! OK! Pavano is skipping his next rehab start to get checked by Dr. Andrews: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2128147

Even one more is too many. I guess I qualify as an oldtimer now, but jeez when I was getting into baseball and even during my 20s, 30s and even 40s, I can't remember any team rushing to sign a 41 year old pitcher (a pitcher!!!!! for Christ sake) and throwing millions and a multiyear contract to boot. Totally insane. What the hell was the Yankee front office thinking? ← They were thinking that they were getting the guy who won 16 games for a god-awful Diamondbacks team and figured that with typical Yankee run production, he might win 25. Tell you the truth, I was afraid he might, too.
-
Speaking of which, it looks like the Big Unit might finally go on the shelf for his bad back, or at least miss a start: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2127912 How many more years is he signed for?

Again, and unfortunately, not a lot of guesses forthcoming. Actually, this disc was less appealing overall to me than #1. Leave it to Marty to find an organ tune with a tenor that squeels it up and pretty much blows the track for me. Thanks for the tunes, Marty, I'm looking forward to the answers.
-
A very nice compilation, track 12 was the only tune with zero appeal. Unfortunately, not a lot of names popping out at me as I listened though: 1) Bit before my time - was this Marty's first jazz 78? Or maybe a tribute to dear old Dad who introduced him to jazz? 3) Stanley Cowell? Got that late 60s-70s vibe. 6) Basie. 7) KD on trumpet? 9) Sounds to me like a more straightahead CTI track with Bags. 14) Isn't this a Monk tune?

How does a French mirror site come into being? Is this a Google translation of everything, on the fly?

Damn ... imagine how I might be if I was still the GHF.

Tell me why I should get the Buddy Rich set?
Dan Gould replied to tranemonk's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
I think its utterly ridiculous to say that Rich is insignificant or undeserving of the Mosaic treatment. As Jim says, like him or hate him, you ought to be able to recognize him for what he was. And I say that while tending to agree with Brad about the CD with Sweets and about the relative appeal of Rich as a drummer vs Blakey as a drummer. This one is not on my short list of Mosaic sets that I really want. But Rich as an "odd choice" for a Mosaic set? That's just nuts. -
Yeah, but I have a feeling the studio doesn't expect wham-bam business to go with the wham-bam car scenes and Jessie's bodacious ta-tas, or else they'd have opened it earlier in the summer in hopes of a long summer run. But I'm sure it will make mucho dinero when it hits the DVD shelves and everyone buys it to see Jessie trying to fill out those Daisy Dukes.

Are you sure their the voices of people? Maybe what you're hearing is this.

If you were to visit ONE vinyl joint in Boston
Dan Gould replied to Dmitry's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
When my wife and I went to Boston in June, we only made it to Stereo Jack's, and its the only place I'd return to ... -
I predict you won't get there. Care to predict how your teams jaunt through New York and Boston next week will go? C'mon, tell us. 6-0? 5-1?

A very happy 5-0 to my first, and still best, Internet jazz buddy.
