  1. Shouldn't this be changed to "they had people with sensitivities like Dan Gould's in mind"? I've butted heads with Clem on this board, but these kinds of behind-the-back insults are lame. Guy ← And how exactly is it a behind-the-back insult??? Last time I checked, this was a public forum. If Clem is lurking or ever comes back, it will be right there for him to see.
  2. Shouldn't this be changed to "they had people with sensitivities like Dan Gould's in mind"? I've butted heads with Clem on this board, but these kinds of behind-the-back insults are lame. Guy ← Actually I believe it was Allen Lowe who welcomed the possibility of an ignore function for ol' Clem. As I say, I haven't used it yet.
  3. I think they had people like Clem in mind when they designed the "Ignore" function. With my self-imposed exile from the Politics Forum, he's the sole reason I'd ever consider using that option. I'll probably draw him out of hiding by saying this, but perhaps I won't have to?
  4. Man what a snooze-fest the trade deadline turned into. I can't believe the Sox did nothing to improve the bullpen so Schilling can go to the rotation where he belongs. But at least they were smart enough not to deal Manny. I still can't believe those rumors had so much leg to them. Mike Cameron and Aubrey Huff for a certain Hall of Famer? Maybe Ortiz getting walked four times with Manny out of the linup made them wake up to what their offense would be like without him. And the Yanks - I guess they figure that they've got enough warm bodies to pitch that with Pavano and maybe Wright seemingly nearly ready to return, they didn't really have to do anything. Still, its the first trade deadline in the Torre era that the Yanks aren't in the lead for one playoff spot or another.
  5. That's exactly what I was going to say.
  6. This sounds about right. Whenever I hear Keith Jarrett, I usually think of butt loads.
  7. Although the film is too heavy-handed in making its points, I liked the use of "So What" and "Take Five" in Pleasantville.
  8. No, you haven't missed anything. The compiler has failed to post answers and missed or ignored repeated requests for them. Perhaps this thread can serve as yet another reminder.
  9. I was a bone marrow donor for my younger brother (who thankfully is now a lawyer and 8 years cancer-free, after being given a diagnosis of a 20% five year survival rate, 40% with a successful bone marrow transplant). Unless things have radically changed, I wouldn't compare it to blood donation, unless they are taking blood through high guage needles shoved a few dozen times into your ass. Just wanted to mention that. Of course I encourage anyone to register for the bone marrow registry - in fact, ironically enough, today I am wearing my "Save a Life - Get Tissue Typed" t-shirt.
  10. And he can't even help in the immediate future, like Saturday, when they have no starter yet, cuz he hasn't even pitched since July 15 and needs some work in the minors before going to the Bronx.
  11. I got an email from Amazon about it. Already sent it on to the wife with a hint that this would make an excellent birthday or anniversary present (both are coming up in September) so if we don't make the playoffs, heaven forbid, I'll just sit and watch the greatest 8 game winning streak in history, start to finish, over and over and over and over ...
  12. Anybody seen that Amy/Bolton? Would love to see/hear that one! How ironic that this gets mentioned. Just last night I started to do some audio transfers of videos borrowed from a board member, and the first one I wanted to hear was the Amy/Bolton tape. I was doing it into the computer so I wasn't even looking at the video (yet) but judging from the audio signal, the source was in pretty good shape. Here are the details: 1) Summertime 2) Katanga 3) Laura (Bolton feature) 4) Blues for Amy 5) theme Curtis Amy, tenor sax Dupree Bolton, trumpet Dolo Coker, piano Ray Crawford, guitar Victor Gaskin, bass Ronnie Selico, drums Date is given as the 60s, but I noticed that the host mentioned that "Tippin on Through" was the current release by Curtis Amy, so that would help narrow the date down (not sure but I think that was about 1966?). ← If anybody's looking for this, why not get the Amy Select; it's got that and a lot of other great music. ← No, the Amy Select does not have this material, as this came from a show called "Frankly Jazz" and was not issued on Pacific Jazz (although the program was clearly a Pacific Jazz production, judging from the end credits.)
  13. What's really desperate is getting him on a waiver claim and relieving Tampa Bay of whatever contractual obligation there was.
  14. Yes, 10 day forecasts are ridiculous and a ruse. But meteorology is hardly a profession to be laughed at. At three and 5 days, forecast accuracy is extremely high, and as a former meteorology major, I find your comments extremely offensive. So, Dave, do you rely on your own toe in a bell jar to decide whether to bring an umbrella with you to work or do you still actually listen to the "thimble brains" who populate this "so-called profession"??
  15. Well, the way I was taught (admittedly I was a student for only a brief time) by the Meteorology Department of Florida State was in terms of percent of a geographical region. Maybe definitions have changed since the mid 80s.
  16. No, because there is no guarantee that rain will fall. We're talking about statistical probability, not guarantees. It will not "definitely" rain somewhere. The coverage of potential rain will be 20%. Yes there can be no rain in the given time frame, because we are talking about probability NOT absolutes. Here's another way of putting it: Under the present atmospheric conditions, it is likely that no more than 20% of the coverage area will see rainfall. In other words, it is probably that your area will not see rain, but if it does, don't say we didn't tell you so. If you haven't figured it out by now, rainfall probabilities are not an exact science, or have you never had a picnic ruined by rain?
  17. 20% rain chance means that 20% of the geographic area under consideration will see rain in a given time period. It is not cumulative.
  18. Thanks. So it looks like "Red Shirt" made it to both the BN reissue and the Fresh Sound thing (which is what I have) but it looks like the Harold Land thing is an orphan that's never been reissued?
  19. Tom, did you see this for sale, or did you just see a reference to it? I've been trying to track down a copy but haven't had any luck. Closest I came was with Cadence, but it went out of stock and they've never managed to restock it, so I cancelled the back order. If you saw it for sale, please grab it or let me know where its available! AMG gives it a good review, I see no reason why it shouldn't be good.
  20. Stumbled across this: Davis Jackie & Harold Land Blowin' The Blues/Red Shirt 7" Pacific Jazz X303 Apparently Teddy Edwards is on the B-Side, but I can't find this title on his two PJ albums, and I don't know where the A-Side might have come from either. So the question is, would these be tunes recorded exclusively for the singles market or would these actually be edited versions of album tracks? As always, thanks in advance!
  21. And one more thing: One doesn't "learn from our mistakes" in baseball. You sound like that fucking dumb-ass would-be football coach, Steinbrenner. Will you learn from your mistakes and catch the foul pop? No .. thems the breaks of the game. Will you learn from your mistakes and not put pitches in Manny's or Ortiz' wheelhouse? Pitchers have tried to do that for years. They just aren't that successful at it for too long. But it has nothing to do with "learning from our mistakes".
  22. You didn't kick ANY major ass this weekend, and you didn't have to face Schilling in the rotation. Talk about me getting cocky?? Go fuck yourself. Who said you'd win three of four this weekend? Who got lucky to pull out game four to salvage a split? There's a fucking reason why you're barely over .500 against teams that are over .500 themselves.
  23. Well, now that you've given me some copy to work with, I'll give it a shot. Would you like "Pissed Off Zombie in a Hurry" Mr. Producer, or maybe the slightly snarky guy on the Geico spot?
  24. Thanks for another interesting trip. Always enlightening to see from your perspective what makes certain tracks and the connections between them. Couple of observations: Never would have figured out it was Duke singing. Is the rest of that album as, ahem, "Intimate"? On the Rollins track, isn't he liberally "borrowing" from one of those bop anthems at the start? That's why I said it was so familiar, even though it wasn't "complete". Was the voiceover hint aimed at me? Sorry, I know my limitations ...
