You got that right .... now I just go on poor unsuspecting Walgreens managers!
-
The one in Orlando? If so, I've been there and have to agree, but unfortunately they're all (at least the ones in Texas) starting to look like that now. ← No, the onein Boynton Beach. Much closer than the one in Boca Raton, but worthless for the aforementioned reasons. Fortunately, the Boca store is much bigger, too.

Paul, some failures are so egregious they simply have to trigger a chain-wide banishment!
-
Mark, are they permanently banned because they've done you wrong or for socioeconomic reasons? "Permanently Banned" does not refer to choosing not to give $$ to a particular company because you hate their business practices. Its about no longer shopping at a particular store or company that you have previously shopped at, due to gross incompetence and/or a refusal to make good on their failures. I forgot that the closest Borders is on the permanently banned list. It has a pathetic-sized jazz section, and when I stopped their looking for a Fathead/Ray Charles release a few months ago, I asked at the "Help" desk about it. The name escaped me for a moment, and she ended up latching onto a different title, one that was not to be released for another week or two. In the meantime, on the "Title Sleuth" computer, I had found the title I was looking for, and it showed that there was one copy on hand. I tried to explain and get her to look for that title, but she continued to insist that the title I was looking for would not be issued for another week and to come back then. She then brusquely dismissed me and went on to the next customer. I walked off, but not before spotting the manager at the front of the store and telling her why I would never ever step inside her store again.

A friend of mine has certain expectations with commercial establishments and when those expectations are not met in an especially egregious manner, or are not met on a regular basis, he places those stores/restaurants on the Permanently Banned list. Some bans are location specific (certain Boston Market restaurants) and some are chain-wide (Miami Sub). Why do I bring this up? Two reasons. First to declare that WALGREENS is the first entry on my Permanently Banned list. Why? The handling of the film from my Boston trip. You see, I took quite a few shots in "panoramic" mode but when I got the film, none of the pictures were developed that way. I questioned this, and was told that someone would double-check the film and call me back. The next day, I was called back and told that none of the shots were "panoramic" and that I should have my camera checked and fixed. This surprised me, but I came back to pick up the film and the CDRs of the rolls. I get home and pop the CDRs into the PC and what do I find? Panoramic shots, clear as day. I went back to the Walgreens and told them what had happened. They put the CDR into the Kodak film kiosk, and there it was, plain as day, panoramic shots next to non-panoramic shots. Unmistakeable. I showed him the same shot in the form they had developed it ... and he still denied that these were panoramic shots. He then manipulated the image into a 4X6 and showed it to me, assuring me that this was what was on the disc and what was developed and printed by them. I went and stormed out of the store and headed to the nearest CVS Pharmacy and told them what I was dealing with. She took one roll, picked a shot and printed it out, and how did it come out? Panoramic. So, now, because it is a reprint, I am looking at .99 a shot to get the pictures in the form Walgreens should have developed them in in the first place. To make a long story short, the manager refused to compensate me in any way for their incompetence, and so, Walgreens is on the Permanently Banned list. So, to get back to the purposes of this thread, what companies are on your permanently banned list? Believe me, it helps to vent! ... I've got a feeling there's someone here who has Bananas Records on their permanently banned list ...

But Al, the Sox road record, even after the sweep of the Indians, is like 18-20 or something. Its not the road record that's a problem, not at this point, its consistent starters! That'll be the downfall of the Rangers, not the team's performance on the road. Meanwhile, one more dip on the Steinbrenner roller coaster, while the Sox creep within 1 of the O's. With Schilling a couple of rehab starts away and the other starters recovering their early season form, I got a good feeling right now about the defending champs!

You're not an antique shopper then!

For Valentine's, I bought my wife Season 1 of Mork and Mindy and she's been loving it.

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!"

If that italics thing at the bottom indicates that people are in the middle of posting, we got a whole bunch of posts coming up ... 8 members posting, and little old me. Did I beat anyone to the punch? BTW, the Mae West line WAS included, as it was actually spoken in the film. -
I guess Yankee fans had to enjoy last nights late inning explosion, but doesn't it still have to give pause, considering: Johnson was back to being awful after two excellent starts; The D-Rays still got 18 hits; It was, after all, the D-Rays that coughed up all those late inning runs?

A hot team was beaten by a hotter team (and again last night). In case you missed it, here are a selection of photos from Fenway. Tuesday, June 14 was the 230th anniversary of the founding of the Army by the Continental Congress, so there were a huge number of folks in uniform and a very nice pre-game ceremony: Wells stares in at Junior: Wells delivers to Griffey: Trot Nixon awaits the delivery: Big Papi waves the bat: Good shot of Tek with the pitch on the way: From the Monster (you can see the shift they pulled with Griffey at bat): And we gotta finish up with these two: And the championship banner:

OK, here are the best photos from Fenway: Tuesday, June 14 was the 230th anniversary of the founding of the Army by the Continental Congress, so there were a huge number of folks in uniform and a very nice pre-game ceremony: Wells stares in at Junior: Wells delivers to Griffey: Trot Nixon awaits the delivery: Big Papi waves the bat: Good shot of Tek with the pitch on the way: From the Monster (you can see the shift they pulled with Griffey at bat): And we gotta finish up with these two: And the championship banner:

The first picture we took in Boston was of Pizzaria Uno: Can any of you Photoshop wizards convert this back to Storyville? If John sees this, how about an animated gif with Bird walking up to the club? C'mon guys, I took this picture just so someone could have some fun with it!

Thanks, Chris.

Bentsy, Just You, Just Me is a duet album, Sweets and Hines. Very nice, but not one of the Sweets/Lock. Just Friends and Light and Lovely are the two Sweets/Lock collaborations on Black and Blue. In addition to Jawbreakers which also gets a there is Sonny, Sweets & Jaws on the Who's Who in Jazz label, also a good 'un.

If I am wrong, someone can correct me, but it was my understanding that the "Spanish blue cover BNs" were a legitimately licensed reissue series put out by Time-Life. While one may find the blue tinting of the covers to be execrable, it is simply wrong to lump them in with "PD and rip-off labels". Again, if I am wrong, someone can correct me. But I'm pretty sure I am not.

Yes - its the tune I skip!

I don't recognize the cover ... is this a new release or a reissue of earlier material? I have an LP that is Sweets/Lock/Kenny Drew, so I need to know if this is something different or more of the same? I'm with you B., Sweets and Lock were a great team. Have you either of their Black & Blue CDs? If I recall correctly, they did a single recording session and divided them up into a Sweets led date and a Lock led date. I want to say one is titled "Light and Lovely" but I don't have them handy. But if you have a source for Black & Blue CDs, I highly recommend them!

Indeed!!! Good to have you here, Mr.JazzMan!

I've had back injuries before - one time, I got a spasm as I bent backwards in the shower to wet my hair, and the pain was so bad I couldn't see for about five minutes. What Paul says about muscle relaxants and pain pills is definitely a good idea; I hate to admit it but I never did really follow up with the exercises I was supposed to do to strengthen things. But on the other hand, the back hasn't given me a problem since right after the honeymoon, nearly 4 years ago. Get thee to a Doctor and get thee some drugs, STAT!

Well, I had no idea there were programs to extract audio from a DVD ... so when I had the same problem Al had, I played the DVD and launched my audio editing software Goldwave and trial and error quickly revealed what input the DVD audio was going to, so I was able to record the audio in "real time" and save it as a wav.

In all seriousness, this should be taken as a reminder that there is a reason why you should walk over the lawn you're cutting in order to clear out big sticks, branches, rocks. Glad you're eye is feeling better.

Jeff, We did make it and had a great time, even though it was way too cold for we Florida people. We won both games, Wells had a no-hitter into the 6th on Tuesday, and I have to say that sitting on top of the Green Monster is one of the coolest things I've ever done in my life. Anyone who gets the chance owes it to themselves to experience the Mahnstah! Once I get the film developed and digitized, I'm going to post some pics in the thread I started about our Boston trip, so look for it sometime next week.

I'm bringing this back up to ask a question re: Tina Brooks with Ray Charles. I just received a private recording of Ray Charles from 1966. The info I have is: Ray Charles Palais des Sport Paris, France 10-22-66 Is there any chance that Tina was still with Ray at this point?
