Sorry Chuck but at the time, I dug Hargrove and Moore a great deal and wanted to hear anything they were involved in.

So Conte is pleading in the Balco case. Does this mean the end is near for Barry? No word on testifying against anyone, just that he's going to plead to one count of steroid distribution and one count of money laundering. But I have to wonder if he's saying anything about Bonds. Meanwhile, I just saw on Sportscenter that the Giants have become the first North American sports team to win 10,000 games? I'd have figured it would be the Yanks, but maybe the Giants have been that much more consistent over the years?

But what a way to go out, with a bird on 18.

An update: Got a letter from Walgreens today, actually from the same store number but a different manager. Makes me wonder did the guy get fired??? Anywhoo ... enclosed was a Walgreens card for the cost of my added film developing costs at CVS. Guy says the card is good at any store, but he hopes I'll use it at his and introduce myself. Maybe I'll swing into the store this weekend and see if there's a new picture up under "store manager" ... but I don't think I'll go back to that store to buy anything.

When the cost for an Eddie Guardado is three of your top five prospects, you look around for alternatives. I don't know whether it works or not, obviously the first time was a flippin' disaster, but its obvious that neither Schilling nor management believe that he is anywhere near to being ready to have consistent command of his pitches for seven innings as a starter. But both seem to believe that for short periods of time, he can be effective. If this experiment is an abject failure, you'll either see them go ahead and stretch him out for the rotation and move someone like Wakefield to the bullpen, or else make a deal for someone, but I'd rather go with what we have than give up any of our top prospects, all of whom have huge upsides. Remember too that when Schilling had his surgery, it was supposed to take 18 months to regain full strength, and we're only at the 8 month mark now. Fact is, his ankle won't be completely back at 100% until 1/3 of the way through next season.

I was all over this when it came out. Been a while since I've listened, but I do like that front line an awful lot.

There was a Blue Note LP?

Boca Raton / Fort Lauderdale Music / Record Shops?
Dan Gould replied to spinlps's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Offbeat Records is the best, and virtually only, place for jazz vinyl. Very nice owner, name of Allen. Go to http://www.offbeatrecords.com There are two CD Collectors (different owners, though) one is in Pompano Beach (just north of Fort Lauderdale) on Atlantic Ave, go east toward the ocean and its on the north side of the street just before the bridge over the intracoastal. Their selection of used jazz CDs is OK; the other store is on Sunrise in Fort Lauderdale, used CDs section is larger, and they now have used vinyl as well, quite cheap, not a huge selection but not bad, either. Last, and certainly least, is All Books and Music, also on Sunrise in Fort Lauderdale (about two miles west of the CD Collector). They've got an OK selection of used CDs, vinyl is typically overpriced especially for the condition. Offbeat Records is the place to go jazz vinyl. Miami has Blue Note Records but they closed their jazz and vinyl annex, put most of the stock in storage and the rest in their main location. I haven't been back since, but I can't imagine that they are stocking much at all anymore. I think Bob is using ebay and record shows to move his merchandise. -
ORGANISSIMO LIVE BROADCAST TONIGHT!
Dan Gould replied to randissimo's topic in Jazz Radio & Podcasts
OK, now I've listened to the tunes again and cross-checked with the "organissimo in the studio" blog, and I gotta say: LOVE the loping feel on that first cut. That's one HIP dude taking the "Third Right on the Left." Wish you'd lay down "Sweet Potato Pie" for the CD, but I'm sure "Pumpkin Pie" will sound just as sweet. NO IDEA why "Smokin Section" is a "guy's tune" but then again, I've never claimed to understand women. "Brother Ray" sounds better each time I hear it, really, really looking forward to hearing Randy's harmonica on this one. Thanks for the sneak peek of what is sure to be the organ trio recording of the year. -
UP, in case anyone is looking for some Arno Marsh based on his playing with the boys on Lazaro's radio show. Here's the link to Arno's latest: http://www.woofyproductions.com/catalog.html

Making CDR's or buying Disconforme titles..
Dan Gould replied to wolff's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I believe the simple answer is that these CDRs could be sold legally in Europe, but the import and sale of these recordings, still copyrighted in the US, would be illegal. On the other hand, places like Dusty Groove and Cadence have no trouble importing and re-selling Lonehill and other rip-off labels, so who knows? -

Dan, "the man", Maybe we can get some gigs this fall or winter in Florida.. It would be great to see you again... ← I was hoping you guys would be back at the Clearwater Fest, too bad that they have some cockamamie rule about how long you have to wait to be reinvited. -

Awesome! I've already tuned in and confirmed that my sound card handles simultaneous recording of streaming audio. Just have to make sure the wife starts the recording. Looking forward to it, guys! -
Yes, there is a moderator, but believe me, it is likely that the FIST OF DOOM will come down on your F**KING TROLLING *SS, so I strongly suggest that you watch what you ask for.

Well, I can tell you that I was able to hit Gary with another, highly obscure item in his brother's discography http://www.organissimo.org/forum/index.php...1&st=&p=entry and when I found out that he was also lacking all of Charles' Mainstream Records appearances, I hooked him up with our own Bill Fenohr and got him covered in that regard, too. ← Gary is still around, but now with a complete collection of Charles's music, thanks to the overwhelming generosity and kindness of two stellar individuals in Dan Gould and Bill Fenohr. There have been a number of family gatherings during which the newly acquired music made its debut to everyone's delight. Dan, some material is scheduled to be moved out of our storage unit over the upcoming July 4th holiday. That will make a way for me to get at the 2 or 3 gospel albums we did of Charles. Since I don't have the equipment to transfer from vinyl to electronic media, I will ship it to you in hopes that you can perform the magic. Has your address changed? gary@kynard.com ← UPDATE: From Gary's email this morning:

Oh maaaannnnn ... first time I've wished I was back in New York in quite a while. And my folks aren't even home to tape it. AAARRGGHHH Aw hell, they wouldn't know how to tape it anyway.

Hurricane Dennis getting strong again!!!!
Dan Gould replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
145 now, a strong category 4, and only about six hours away from Pensacola-Ft Walton Beach. The panhandle is really gonna take it, again. -
What if we did pool our resources, and all interested parties chipped in, say, $10? I have a suspicion this dude has a reserve of at least $100 . .. but what if we solicited donations, and tried to snap this up together, and shared and shared alike? I suspect most people have the music itself, but anyone who doesn't gets an expert transfer of the vinyl, and everybody gets an expert transfer of the 45, regardless. First thing would be to determine the number of people actually willing to contribute, and determine whether they want to contribute a set amount, toward a single bid, or authorize a maximum bid, to be divided evenly based on the number of participants in the bidding group. I'm gonna start a new thread to do just that.

And others! How many others? Is it possible that Hank's "speech" consists of only a few sentences? Remember, by most accounts, he was pretty loaded that night. There were lots of people giving "speeches" that night, and this sounds like it might be a collection of soundbites. It is, after all, a 45. I'd still love to have/hear it, but at what cost? ← If you go to the bottom of the page, click on the lowest image-it shows the two sides of the 45. It looks like there is a total of four sound clips, with Ruth Lion listed at the top and Hank at the end. So if Cuscuna is one of the others, that leaves one "mystery" speaker.

Hurricane Dennis getting strong again!!!!
Dan Gould replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Lots of warm water in the gulf, I thought it would strengthen a bit quicker than it did, but now its looking very symmetrical and its still got a ways to go before landfall. Might be back to 135 or 140 by then, and it looks like Pensacola is going to get drilled again, when they've hardly recovered from last year's monster storm. I'm just glad it missed south Florida. We hardly even saw any rain in Palm Beach county today.
