Fallen U.S. Porn King Goldstein Rebuilds With

I wonder if that was that the basis for the great scene in the early Woody Allen film, pretty sure it was Bananas when Woody is hiding his interest in the porno mags by also picking up Time and other high-brow publications, but when he gets to the cash register, his cover is blown when the man asks the other guy, in a very loud voice, "How much is Screw?" -
Letterman did a nice tribute to Carson by using only the jokes he had sent to Dave for his monologue. He only told the audience who had written the jokes after the monologue was over: http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/TV/02/01/t...n.ap/index.html Highlights: I can hear Johnny's voice delivering them ... Maybe somewhere else there's a complete transcript?

Yes, he trades with Fathead on Birth of a Band. And all of this was already discussed here.

If I'm looking for Moan Tones, give me Barbara Dare-that girl could vocalize.

I'm surprised he's being compared to Powell because he's said he's mostly influenced by OP, Gene Harris, Bobby Timmons. Those are certainly the influences that come through on his records. I did see him in West Palm Beach a few years ago and he was very good.

A little medical advice, please...
Dan Gould replied to Jim Alfredson's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Oh man that really stinks ... keep hanging in there and keep searching for the right doctors. Someone's gotta get to the bottom of this. -
Well, I don't know how long Peter will take, if his wife's got to get it in the mail and he's settling into his new gig in Seattle. You could probably just post the answers whenever you want at this point.

What have you done for a living?

Hope I don't forget anything: Stock Clerk/cashier at Woolworth's Tennis instructor/court supervisor, Wilton Parks and Recreation Party supply deliveryman, Taylor Rental (this job was off and on for many years, in between most of the following) Research Assistant, Washington University Teaching Assisant, Washington University Work crew for tent rental company (paid cash under the table, had to sue him for my last paycheck) Line work at small Medical manufacturing plant (I worked the end of the line, slipping the finished product (sterile hand and fingernail scrubbers for surgeons) into the dispenser boxes and then into the shipping boxes) Research Assistant, University of South Carolina Cashier, A&P Supermarket Managing Partner, Wimbledon Tennis Shop Announcer, WTNT-Tallahassee (part-time) telemarketing, cold calling for leads for a software company Announcer, WMLO-Tallahassee (full-time) Audio Production for a small commercial production house (horrible gig, martinet boss, killer deadlines but with stone age equipment that made it damn challenging to meet. Didn't last long-I wonder why?) telemarketing (the infamous gig in the phone sex industry) telemarketing, for a company selling a chemical to flush into your septic tank to breakdown the waste and prevent backups free lance voice talent Audio Production Manager, Virtual Languages -
So you haven't outgrown it or anything, Dan? Nope, not yet ... and I have hope for new stuff someday. I got in touch with Gene's widow and she told me she has many sound board recordings of the quartet and that while Concord has passed on them, she is definitely considering putting them out herself. I turned her on to CD Baby and she agreed its a good way to go.

You're just noticing this now?

Pasta (we've come to like the Barilla brand stuffed shells, particularly the spinach and ricotta), salad and bread.

I just stumbled across this website, maybe its well known, but gobs and gobs of jazz vinyl, new and/or sealed reissues, and very reasonable prices. Here's the link to the jazz listing: http://www.vinyl.com/catalog/index.php?category_id=7 Edit: I now see that there's more jazz listed in the All-Artists section than what's categorized as jazz: http://www.vinyl.com/catalog/list_artists.php

Joe Chambers Double Exposure (with Larry Young)

Very interesting ... thanks for finding and posting that. I think there's a young man in Seattle who's gonna sh*t the proverbial brick when he sees this thread.
-
And thanks for the link. Contrary to what the guy says, I had no trouble downloading the tunes and saving them. Unfortunately real audio won't burn into CD format and sound right, but now I can hear the music without depending on the connection and the buffering.

Thanks for the clarification. Obviously he's talking about his career from the 70s on, when organs didn't have their appeal that they did in the 60s heyday, so its unfortunate, but surely he did record a lot before then.

Congratulations. It's a fact though that when you get older, your hearing will diminish, however slowly; it's part of the aging process. A really disturbing fact, because I lost hearing as a child, supposedly due to a childhood illness, and my time on the radio with headphones on didn't exactly help. So I'm not even 40 and sometimes wonder if I need to think about a hearing aid (or at least that I'll need one sooner rather than later). At least on the positive side, my hearing isn't acute enough to notice or care about all these supposedly inferior remasterings. It all sounds good to me, I just hope I can still hear it in 20 years!

Yes thought so. Heard in the Waiting Game liner notes that the reason they didn't release any others is because album sales were so low. That's largely true, but the fact is that Back to the Tracks was sequenced and mastered and pictured on the backs of other BN releases, but somehow slipped through and was never actually released at the time.

According to AMG, he recorded 19 times in the 1960s, including seven times before Misty got him some attention, so I really don't see how his opportunities were so limited. When was this boot made? Was it before Misty jump-started his career? It seems an odd thing for Holmes to be saying, unless he is referring simply to some specific clubs where he was blackballed or burned his bridges. But I would think that post-Misty, he had plenty of work, and he recorded pretty regularly for Pacific Jazz before Misty was his first Prestige recording. I'd be really curious to know when this recording was made.

Which is why I don't think, as the thread asks, "any generalizations can be said". Welcome to the board, Stew.

Jazzmatazz says Aug. 1. Hopefully Jim Gallert can keep us updated on this thread. Unfortunately, that's plenty of time for it to be pushed back and pushed back like the Bird release. But here's hoping it won't be!

Is there an expected release date?
