    Jackie McLean

If you want to keep believing that Jackie never made a bad album, pass right over "Monuments" in your used record store.
  2. Um, I'll cut you a good deal on buying my vinyl, so I'll have the cash to upgrade myself when it comes out?
  3. Having fun yet?
  4. I direct you to the third line of my signature: Why must you Criticize things you don't know about?
  5. SS, I have a 2000 Civic also, 53,000 miles, and not a whiff of trouble yet. How many miles when you're radiator crapped out?
  6. Not that making you cry would disturb me, but you do realize that its only jazz CDs being listened to in alphabetical order, right? And you only listen to Jazz? And I only listen to jazz in the office.
  7. Shelley Carrol: With Members of the Duke Ellington Orchestra (on the late, lamented, Leaning House Records, if you see it, grab it!) Benny Carter: The Urbane Sessions New York Nights Wonderland and the Jazz Giants All That Jazz-Live at Princeton Take the A Train Elegy in Blue Over the Rainbow Summer Serenade Live and Well in Japan
  8. I feel quite strongly on this question. Except for cases of medical necessity or a woman who feels severely "short changed", fake boobs are an afront to God and all right-thinking men. They are an abomination.

    Hank Mobley

Really? And are you saying that he was hip only on records, and too wasted to do anything on the band stand? Or was the slovenly dress and nodding off offensive to you on another level?
  10. Well, I just moved onto another live KD show, this one a couple of years later, don't know who the MC was, but he clearly introduces him as "KD, Kenny DUR-am". So, I think we have our answer. We've all been pronouncing his name wrong!!!!
  11. Happy Birthday, Randy!!!
  12. I didn't catch this over the weekend but I have strong memories of watching this show as a kid and really enjoying it. I kind of wonder whether it will live up to the memories-in watching some Laugh-In episodes, I remember thinking I was laughing a lot less than I remember. Of course, part of my enjoyment of that particular show was the co-host DAN Rowan.
  13. Not exactly the same thing, but several years ago I was cruising the jazz section of a chain store when I overheard a customer talking to a clerk. She needed help finding SPEE-ro GEE-ro and Dave Cruisin'
  14. Perhaps correcting your host might be ungracious. But Grant was a pro, right? Wouldn't he get the name right? Can anyone say definitively that it was DOR-am and not DUR-am?
  15. Well the DJ was Alan Grant, I think, and he must have been right up stage with him, because at one point he said, "and the next tune is going to be?" and Kenny answered him, slightly off mic. So, if he was right up there, why wouldn't he correct him on the pronunciation when he said, "DUR-am"?
  16. I can certainly attest to that. Our dog was freaking out, big time. And, when I was growing up, our town paid big bucks for a fireworks display. The town is situated in a valley, and the year we decided to skip the festivities, we realized just how much those booms rumble through the valley (our house is just a couple of miles away) and also just how much it disturbed our Irish Setter.
  17. UP, to find out the status of making each of the approved designs available.
  18. You're right, but the question is, is the first syllable with a UR sound or a OR sound? That's the odd pronunciation I heard (and it wasn't Symphony Sid
  19. Time to get caught up from last week. More Byrd: At the Half Note Cafe Volume 2 Candoli Brothers: Two for the Money Conte Candoli: Powerhouse Trumpet Conten-nuity (on Fresh Sounds and highly recommended) Candoli Live (Nagel Heyer, the last two surely show he was on top of his game at the end of his life) Little Band Big Jazz Old Acquaintance (with Phil Woods) Pete Candoli: The Blues, When Your Lover Has Gone
  20. I'm transferring a Kenny Dorham radio broadcast from the Half Note in NYC, from reel to CD, and I noticed that the DJ called him "Kenny Dur-ham". I always thought it was Kenny "Door-ham". Can someone set me straight? Thanks!
  21. Well, it was our first Fourth in the new house, and quite bad-though not Downtown-Bagdad bad! But seriously, lots of stuff going off throughout the weekend, with the worst yesterday. And on top of that, NO police response for over an hour, and some clown in the neighborhood to our south, on the other side of a canal, was setting off ridiculous stuff that was raining down into our yard. Here's what I will never understand: As I understand it, in the state of Florida, anything bigger than firecrackers are illegal to own/use UNLESS you are a farmer and using it for crop protection against birds or animals or whatever. Definitely, nothing that is shot into the sky is legal. So that's the law; I wish someone could explain why there is a chain of "Firework Superstores" opening all over the place. How can such a business be licensed when its purpose is to sell things that only farmers can have? Its absolutely f-ing outrageous.
  22. If I'm not mistaken, one of Litweiler's '70s DB pieces that should be required reading is an interview/profile of Hank Mobley. Welcome!
  23. This is not the policy anymore. Mike made a mistake and he corrected it. He has no problem allowing me to post about Organissimo's downtime and has repeatedly invited me to do so. We all make mistakes. Yes, you're allowed to post on the status of the server. But no one can speak of Organissimo, or Jazz Corner, for that matter, otherwise.
  24. And in which direction, PD, does the "posts about other bulletin boards will not be tolerated" dictate flow???????
