  1. Well, I just moved onto another live KD show, this one a couple of years later, don't know who the MC was, but he clearly introduces him as "KD, Kenny DUR-am". So, I think we have our answer. We've all been pronouncing his name wrong!!!!
  2. Happy Birthday, Randy!!!
  3. I didn't catch this over the weekend but I have strong memories of watching this show as a kid and really enjoying it. I kind of wonder whether it will live up to the memories-in watching some Laugh-In episodes, I remember thinking I was laughing a lot less than I remember. Of course, part of my enjoyment of that particular show was the co-host DAN Rowan.
  4. Not exactly the same thing, but several years ago I was cruising the jazz section of a chain store when I overheard a customer talking to a clerk. She needed help finding SPEE-ro GEE-ro and Dave Cruisin'
  5. Perhaps correcting your host might be ungracious. But Grant was a pro, right? Wouldn't he get the name right? Can anyone say definitively that it was DOR-am and not DUR-am?
  6. Well the DJ was Alan Grant, I think, and he must have been right up stage with him, because at one point he said, "and the next tune is going to be?" and Kenny answered him, slightly off mic. So, if he was right up there, why wouldn't he correct him on the pronunciation when he said, "DUR-am"?
  7. I can certainly attest to that. Our dog was freaking out, big time. And, when I was growing up, our town paid big bucks for a fireworks display. The town is situated in a valley, and the year we decided to skip the festivities, we realized just how much those booms rumble through the valley (our house is just a couple of miles away) and also just how much it disturbed our Irish Setter.
  8. UP, to find out the status of making each of the approved designs available.
  9. You're right, but the question is, is the first syllable with a UR sound or a OR sound? That's the odd pronunciation I heard (and it wasn't Symphony Sid
  10. Time to get caught up from last week. More Byrd: At the Half Note Cafe Volume 2 Candoli Brothers: Two for the Money Conte Candoli: Powerhouse Trumpet Conten-nuity (on Fresh Sounds and highly recommended) Candoli Live (Nagel Heyer, the last two surely show he was on top of his game at the end of his life) Little Band Big Jazz Old Acquaintance (with Phil Woods) Pete Candoli: The Blues, When Your Lover Has Gone
  11. I'm transferring a Kenny Dorham radio broadcast from the Half Note in NYC, from reel to CD, and I noticed that the DJ called him "Kenny Dur-ham". I always thought it was Kenny "Door-ham". Can someone set me straight? Thanks!
  12. Well, it was our first Fourth in the new house, and quite bad-though not Downtown-Bagdad bad! But seriously, lots of stuff going off throughout the weekend, with the worst yesterday. And on top of that, NO police response for over an hour, and some clown in the neighborhood to our south, on the other side of a canal, was setting off ridiculous stuff that was raining down into our yard. Here's what I will never understand: As I understand it, in the state of Florida, anything bigger than firecrackers are illegal to own/use UNLESS you are a farmer and using it for crop protection against birds or animals or whatever. Definitely, nothing that is shot into the sky is legal. So that's the law; I wish someone could explain why there is a chain of "Firework Superstores" opening all over the place. How can such a business be licensed when its purpose is to sell things that only farmers can have? Its absolutely f-ing outrageous.
  13. If I'm not mistaken, one of Litweiler's '70s DB pieces that should be required reading is an interview/profile of Hank Mobley. Welcome!
  14. This is not the policy anymore. Mike made a mistake and he corrected it. He has no problem allowing me to post about Organissimo's downtime and has repeatedly invited me to do so. We all make mistakes. Yes, you're allowed to post on the status of the server. But no one can speak of Organissimo, or Jazz Corner, for that matter, otherwise.
  15. And in which direction, PD, does the "posts about other bulletin boards will not be tolerated" dictate flow???????
  16. I'm sorry, but being oblong also requires knee removal. I do have you down for being "tasteless, rude and offensive," however.
  17. Yes, and how exactly would you interpret this statement: I think its clear: Ricci came to Alan and said, "hook up with AAJ or we're going to do your same thing only bigger and better, and you'll have nothing left." Alan said kiss off. And, "unfortunately, it didn't work out." I would much sooner help Alan clothe and feed his kids than support a website that won't even allow the mention of other jazz discussion boards. And that's what this boils down to, people: On one site, you can only mention this board in regards to one, special area: the technical status of the server. Yet, on this site, that other site gets to promote itself all over the place. WHAT is wrong with this picture?????
  18. No comment, PD, but here's a fucking clue: Its a Steve Martin comedy routine, not a personal code of conduct. Here's your big hint: "Be obsequious, purple and clairvoyant."
  19. Still on Burrell: Ellington a la Carte Jazz Heritage All-Stars Live at the Blue Note Blues the Common Ground All Night Long Billy Butler: Legends of Acid Jazz Don't Be That Way Donald Byrd & Gigi Gryce: Xtacy Jazz Lab/Modern Jazz Perspective Byrd with Pepper Adams: Out of This World Motor City Scene Byrd and Doug Watkins: Complete Transition Sessions Byrd: In Paris A New Perspective Byrd in Flight Slow Drag Blackjack Mustang Fuego Best of the Soul Jazz Years At the Half Note Volume 1
  20. Well, let's see ... Ricci is trying to drive traffic to his commercial site. What would happen if we tried to drive traffic the other way by posting anything positive about organissimo? What if we posted something about Blindfold Tests or AOTW or Babes (drawn and photo'd)? We know what would happen. Ricci would delete the thread or post. Seems to me Ricci is taking advantage of Jim's admirable "free speech at all costs" position to drive traffic to his site. His commercial site. OK, maybe birthday announcements aren't so bad, but after spamming his upcoming release listing, at the expense of an honorable, respected member of this community, I see no reason to take kindly to more AAJ promotion.
  21. I took the plunge, several months ago, on the Funny Rat. NOT Funny. NOT related to Rats. Related to free jazz, A/G, etc. Safely bypassed ever since.
  22. Can you do a Fusilli Tina Brooks? Uh, shouldn't that be a Fusilli David Fiuczynski?
  23. You're missing mine, Ray? Say it ain't so! What if I mailed yours extra early? Like, say, tomorrow?
  24. Is this board becoming a freaking billboard for AAJ???? How is this being tolerated when the mere mention of this site on his board results in the immediate deletion of the offending message????? (Yes, I know, this SPAMMER allows organissimo messages regarding technical difficulties)
