Detroitmusichistory & a welcome to Jim Gallert
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous Music
Yes, welcome, Jim! -
So Claude's an ugly baby that grew up to be a frighteningly muscled female body builder?
-
I certainly don't care for this one: (middle name is Jay by the way)
-
no "Time out"?!!!!! On vinyl. These are CDs I am bringing into the office.
-
That or the possibility that with summer upon us, participation will decline. We know from experience that board traffic slows in the summer. Don't worry, it will probably be worse when my next turn comes, in the dog days of August.

I'm gaining some experience in this area due to a project I've taken on for a board member. But its hard to judge because the deck is hooked up to a PC rather than decent stereo speakers. But I can tell you that professional quality reels (like, for broadcast) record at 15 ips, so anything recorded at 7 or 3 3/4 isn't going to sound as good as it could. Its too bad reels for the home market had the lower speeds.

Ken Nordine's "Word Jazz"
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
I was transferring a New Year's eve radio program from reel to CD for a board member, and when I came to a ten minute bit from Nordine, sorry, but his pseudo hip jive got to be grating in about fifteen seconds and I decided to edit it out (with permission). Maybe I should have given it a longer chance? I must say I was impressed at the end of the segment when they listed some of the man's voice over credits. -
Precisely why I chose to do this. Don't tell Nessa-he wouldn't understand.
-
It's criminally short, about 30 minutes, but really, really good. Rushing is in fine voice, as would be expected, and Brubeck fits with him very well. I'd grab it if I were you.
-
Its worth it just for the Sweets/Buck Clayton date, which is quite superb.

That's a very strange balance to me Time to invest in some essential albums. I was waiting for someone to point this out! But, strange to say, I have always preferred Brownie's descendants to Brownie himself (I think you know which Brownie I'm speaking of, Brownie! Not that I count Blanchard necessarily under that heading, but Lee, Byrd, Freddie ...) And trust me, there are a few Brown/Roach titles that are filed under Max

I could actually see a good result on the JT tune. Maybe.

I can only imagine what Chris A. will have to say about this. Stefan, I didn't even know this was coming out-who else is on it and what are the tunes?

You didn't know that Rudy's parents installed an orange spotlight in the living room?

Is it a female or shemale?

Is it a female or shemale?
Dan Gould replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The only shemale I've encountered was when I worked in a phone sex office (not talking dirty, mind you!) and one of the "girls" was this tall, pretty redhead. Yes, I'll admit it, she was pretty-but something was a bit off, and I quickly found out from one of my co-workers. But what I got a kick out of was her chosen female name: Fabia. Get it? The female version of Fabio .... -

I disagree-I thought this one was the least obvious dude: Oh, and I was 14/16, by the way. -
Speaking of Bobby Watson, and unless this is limited to CD titles and not song titles, how about the tune "Monk He See, Monk He Do"?
-
Sorry, Marcus, I've just been terribly busy since you posted this. I'll try to refresh my memory over the weekend ...

Looking for Mastersounds vinyl
Dan Gould replied to ghost of miles's topic in Offering and Looking For...
Looks that way from here, too. -
More nice stuff on this one, thanks, EKE! (though I could do without the tracks better left in the dustbin of history I gotta believe its Sweets on track 9. I kept thinking Hawk on track 2 but from everyone else I can see that's wrong, and I hate to admit it, but while everyone else seems to have no problem identifying Dizzy on his own tune, I thought it might be Miles.

Don't listen to Nessa. In his world, anyone who doesn't follow the Nessa Definition of a Jazz Fan is worthless. Peter, if you like the BN Lighthouse material, this is more of the same, and very worthwhile.

I'd say sorry I've offended you but I've ceased giving a shit about the likes of you. But you might note that no one's name is attached to the poll results. No one knows who placed themselves in what category, or if they did. That's the beauty of polls, both the legitimate and the online type.
