  1. Who wouldn't trust their own ears? Heck, I'd trust your ears ahead of theirs almost any day of the week.
  2. Oh Brother! Wonder where my mind was when I posted... Well, Silver's Sister Sadie has been known to be instrumental in finding salvation.
  3. Its apples and oranges and there's absolutely no validity to the claim this person is making.
  4. Except that its "Sister Salvation"
  5. couw has hit it on the nose
  6. PM sent; we'll see if it got there.
  7. And yet that article that was posted from the Sunday times mentioned that Spielberg told Benny that he loved his work and his favorite tune was I Remember Clifford. Heck, assuming that was true, take an extra three minutes to establish that the Father's name was Clifford and he always loved the tune, Benny leads off the set with the tune, and Hanks sits at the table while a tear falls. He's remembering his Dad with his favorite tune, AND he's triumphed against adversity.
  8. Is that how they answered the phone? Hello, Cafe Waaaa"???
  9. Well, for a wild card entrant, Martina couldn't dream of a better opponent-a South American clay court player who thinks grass is made for picnics. Against a legend, who's surprised she'd choke? Nevertheless, nice to see the old girl competing. Too bad the odds are huge against her having a tournament like 38 year old Jimmy Connors had at the Open in, what was it, '92?
  10. While I doubt wesbed's pitch would be green-lighted in a million years, I am disapointed in Jazzbo's description of Benny's scene. Killer Joe is a funky enough tune that it sounds like the least they could do is let him play more and show Hanks at a table, bopping his head. Or even looking bored while the rest of the crowd is popping its fingers. Something, anything, to show why his character's father might care about jazz or getting these autographs.
  11. Just be thankful its not Huey Lewis and the News, "If This is It"
  12. Only if you belong to the Church of John Coltrane.
  13. There's something wrong with the sound of the Marcus Roberts solo discs?
  14. I know that some participants have complained about new BFTs arriving too quickly, not having time to give them the proper attention. On the other hand, other would be compilers have noted that they may anticipate shipping sometime in the first Kerry Administration, at the earliest. Our current compiler, EKE, ended up shipping a bit early, and this makes me think: Since compilers know how close there turn is and therefore have plenty of time to think about their discs and get ready in advance, is there any terrible loss to soliciting addresses further in advance and shipping further in advance? While people may have more than one "new" BFT in hand, it would also give them more time to do their listening prior to the actual start of the discussion. If we understand that compilers ONLY start discussion threads, then I think we could keep things straight, while actually giving everyone more time to listen before discussions start, and also keep things moving so that we can move steadily through the list and people won't wait quite so long to get their shot. Thoughts?
  15. Among the tunes I put on my Wedding Day compilation: I'm Old Fashioned (Coltrane's version) Until I Met You (aka Corner Pocket) Blue and Sentimental (Ike's version) I've Got The World on a String It's Crazy (not sure which musical that's from) 2 Degrees East, Three Degrees West Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby ******************************* Congrats on the Nuptials!!
  16. Do I count? My wife bought a Father's Day card for our "son," Coltrane, to give to his "Daddy". In case you've missed the pics before, here's one shortly after we adopted him. Its amazing how quick they grow up!
  17. My Brooks Brothers Day: David "Bubba" Brooks: The Big Sound of Bubba Brooks Smooth Sailing Polka Dots and Moonbeams Roy Brooks: Beat Tina Brooks: Minor Move True Blue The Waiting Game Back to the Tracks 211
  18. I believe that if you want to receive payments, you need to give up the bank account number to get your $$. At least those transfers are still free.
  19. I can't imagine why, for these purposes, your classmates wouldn't prefer Paypal payment if it were available. Unless, that is, its really your 50th Reunion, and you don't anticipate that anyone will know what the hell Paypal is anyway. And judging by our own Christiern, people in that age cohort are online, too ...
  20. Now is this really true? I mean, did they have to draw a picture of a penis and a steaming pile of turd to convince the family that it would be best for the girl to change her name?
  21. I like Noj's story better.
  22. I'd be curious to know, too. After all, students who enroll in a Continuing Ed class have to be interested in the subject matter-its not like they're satisfying some requirement for a diploma or degree and will veg out in class. I'd expect a significant proportion of older students some of whom may even have memories of the era and things to share with the class.
  23. No problem. Will it be my left or my right kidney with that?
  24. It has nothing to do with "patriarchy" and "male domination". What it is related to is what Jim touches on: Like it or not, men expect other men to act like men, and women to act like women. Therefore, ball-busting women are cunts. Effeminate men are pussies. Patriarchy or Mother Earth Goddess loving community, it would be the same thing.
  25. Good choice, Marcus! I'll have to try to pull this one out and actually participate. Might also be interesting if it turns into a discussion of young lions/recreation of the past ...
