I don't understand your response, Bebop. Wasn't the guy inspired by the fact that McDonalds says they serve healthy food? Wasn't he further inspired by the assumption that if he eats healthy food, he will maintain a healthy body? Perhaps the movie wouldn't need to be made (and he wouldn't have been ispired) if McDonald's acknowledged that they serve crap that might be safely consumed once or twice a month but isn't part of a healthy diet. Then again, that kind of honesty won't grow their bottom line.

What I thought was funny (and frightening) that when the guy went into the sauna, he filled the room up with the aroma of cheesburgers. That's just too frightening to contemplate.

EDIT: I've just gone back and added a running count of the total. Actually, it just dawned on me that the disc coverage won't be 100% in the end-I'm pulling from the binders where 99% of the discs are. But when I tossed the jewel boxes, I inevitably had quite a few discs that couldn't be adopted to the binder system, like all the mini-LP packages and digi-paks. So maybe at the end I'll go through those. Don't really want to start in on them soon_just recently they were shuffled through in my car CD holder.

There's an LP (still available at Cadence, BTW) on VGM records, Nancy Wilson Sits in with The Three Sounds. Nancy sounds flat out horrible because of massive tape saturation on her microphone input. Totally unlistenable, so if I could snap my fingers, that would be a good one to "fix". BTW, its still a worthwhile LP (especially for $6!)-half the record is just the trio, and they sound fine.

My wife's mother, aunt and sister are finally seeing the new house on Sunday (and they only live 45 minutes away, its taken them almost three months to get down here). Also, doesn't it also say in the Mosaic booklet something along the lines (and I think this was Jackie McLean speaking) that Tina wasn't a real aggressive guy when it came to hustling gigs, etc.? Maybe it wasn't drug problems but a personality ill-suited to the competitive NYC scene?

Brownie, this has been out on CD if I am not mistaken.

I thought it was clear from the Mosaic essay that as much as Alfred felt that Tina's was a voice worth hearing, he didn't get the attention of the audience or get much of a critical response, and eventually Alfred gave up on trying to elevate his position. I seem to recall Bill Fenohr telling me that True Blue got a pretty mediocre review in Down Beat. Its only with hindsight, and the work of Michael C., that we recognize Tina as a unique talent of considerable skill.

Joe, I cannot recommend this man's playing more highly, but not in any manner of shining light on his brother's playing. The elder brother comes from an older style of playing, very soulful but oriented more toward swing or swing-to-bop. Think Gene Ammons. Not technically assured-he's an ear player who I don't believe reads music. But deeply, deeply soulful playing. We are fortunate that TCB gave him an opportunity to have his music recorded. But hold up for a second. David Brooks died in 2002??? I was not aware of that at all.

I haven't noticed it so far in my A-to-Z listening. But I do notice, especially in the Young Lion era, a tendency to program catchy, soulful type tunes last.

Sorry folks, I feel a bit foolish, but this was the first I'd heard of this little "incident", so I didn't know I should have asked Weinstock about it.

Thanks for the advice. We are talking about detached homes in my case. Interesting suggestion about enlisting the neighbors, it seems as though we are the only people to call the cops regarding noise complaints. Does the noise not bother them? Do they have no faith that the cops will do anything? Or are they afraid of the neighbors and don't want to get blamed? At least last night was quiet and I got some sleep. The problem was, we just started letting the dog sleep on the bed with us, but he won't just curl up and go to sleep. He stretches out, moves around-and he's 40 pounds, just big enough to really make his presence known. I'm a heavy sleeper, but my wife isn't-she told me she hardly slept at all. Back in the crate for you, Coltrane!
