Well, I'd take Larry's opinion with a large grain of salt-a lot of people here definitely do not think Ben Webster & Associates is a dud. Speaking of Hines though, and following up on Larry's comment about solo recordings, one to track down is "Concert in Argentina", a two LP set, one side each of solo piano from Hines, Marian McPartland, Ellis Larkins and Teddy Wilson.

Well, I have to admit that, I knew in the back of my mind that if cash flow didn't allow a purchase before the lease expired (and with a new house, that was inevitable), and curiosity about the sound became overwhelming, I'd have options in the future (wink wink nudge nudge).

I started to learn this on the old JOL (wasn't around for Jazz Central Station's heyday), learned it more on Board Krypton, and really found it to be true here: Jazz fans are amazingly generous, decent people.

Maybe this belongs in the 'confession' thread, but if you want to combine sex lives and pets, here's what happened to me over the weekend. We put the dog in his cage while, ahem, we, um, well, you know .... Normally, when we're finished, we just turn out the light and go to sleep, but my wife has wanted to let the dog learn to sleep in our bedroom without being cooped up in the cage. So, she let him out. He jumped on the bed and started licking all over my chest and back. Then we realized he was licking up the sweat our, ahem, fun had produced.

Definitely one of the best players who got their start with Wynton (I'd put Marcus Roberts in the same category, also Wycliffe Gordon). As far as the CD mentioned, I just gave it another listen in my A to Z odyssey, and I agree its killer. Unfortunately, Leaning House went out of business at least a couple of years ago, but I would think this could be found online still.

Was AMG taken down for a relaunch, possibly with the pay element? I haven't been able to access it since Friday. Very annoying since I am working on my next BFT and it helps to check AMG to see if some choices can be easily identified or not. I kind of figured this development would be mentioned here by now-is it possible this is limited to the Gould household???

True Blue was the one album that came out while he was alive. Minor Move was his first session, unissued possibly due to slightly ragged ensembles, it has Lee Morgan joining him onthe front line. Back to the Tracks was sequenced and prepared for release, but never came out at the time-an oversight on Alfred and Frank's part. The Waiting Game was his last date. I'd probably recommend True Blue first, just by a hair, but all are really fine.

Nice to see the Time's' crack staff of fact checkers got the spelling right.
