My cat is licking the top of my Flip Flops!
Dan Gould replied to BERIGAN's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Maybe this belongs in the 'confession' thread, but if you want to combine sex lives and pets, here's what happened to me over the weekend. We put the dog in his cage while, ahem, we, um, well, you know .... Normally, when we're finished, we just turn out the light and go to sleep, but my wife has wanted to let the dog learn to sleep in our bedroom without being cooped up in the cage. So, she let him out. He jumped on the bed and started licking all over my chest and back. Then we realized he was licking up the sweat our, ahem, fun had produced. -
Updated and UP.

I saw the Times coverage of this. So long as we don't see a Pulitzer to John Williams for lifetime achievement!

Terrible news, fellow US citizens of the board. I just turned the calendar in the office and it dawned on me: The Fourth of July falls on a Sunday, so no workday holiday! Hopefully I can prevail on the boss to make the friday before optional or maybe a half day.

Obscure album covers, by well-known artists
Dan Gould replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Musician's Forum
Jeepers Creeper is one of the very worst movies ever made. Don't know the album. -
UP, with price adjustments.

As far as his recording career goes, he's at the top of his game with another old pro on this album from last year:

The Mosaic Rationalization Corner
Dan Gould replied to Uncle Skid's topic in Mosaic and other box sets...
How about a true one: 11. Its Christmas, Mom asked what I'd like, and I always ask for a Mosaic set. (Don't drum me out of the club, guys, but I've never bought a Mosaic for myself) -
Did Daniel bother to send to the US in advance of the European wave, or did they all ship at one time?

Definitely one of the best players who got their start with Wynton (I'd put Marcus Roberts in the same category, also Wycliffe Gordon). As far as the CD mentioned, I just gave it another listen in my A to Z odyssey, and I agree its killer. Unfortunately, Leaning House went out of business at least a couple of years ago, but I would think this could be found online still.

Well, I had bookmarked allmusic.com, but now I see the link above is allmusic.com/index. Then again, my allmusic.com link works now. All I can say is, weird! And thanks for giving me a functional link! My withdrawal symptoms were only slightly less painful than when the board was down ....

Was AMG taken down for a relaunch, possibly with the pay element? I haven't been able to access it since Friday. Very annoying since I am working on my next BFT and it helps to check AMG to see if some choices can be easily identified or not. I kind of figured this development would be mentioned here by now-is it possible this is limited to the Gould household???

True Blue was the one album that came out while he was alive. Minor Move was his first session, unissued possibly due to slightly ragged ensembles, it has Lee Morgan joining him onthe front line. Back to the Tracks was sequenced and prepared for release, but never came out at the time-an oversight on Alfred and Frank's part. The Waiting Game was his last date. I'd probably recommend True Blue first, just by a hair, but all are really fine.

But note that "I think"--so it ain't for sure. Perhaps Cadence magazine's obits would turn up more info? Maybe the "I think" refers to the cause of death, not the fact of his passing?

I don't understand your response, Bebop. Wasn't the guy inspired by the fact that McDonalds says they serve healthy food? Wasn't he further inspired by the assumption that if he eats healthy food, he will maintain a healthy body? Perhaps the movie wouldn't need to be made (and he wouldn't have been ispired) if McDonald's acknowledged that they serve crap that might be safely consumed once or twice a month but isn't part of a healthy diet. Then again, that kind of honesty won't grow their bottom line.

What I thought was funny (and frightening) that when the guy went into the sauna, he filled the room up with the aroma of cheesburgers. That's just too frightening to contemplate.

EDIT: I've just gone back and added a running count of the total. Actually, it just dawned on me that the disc coverage won't be 100% in the end-I'm pulling from the binders where 99% of the discs are. But when I tossed the jewel boxes, I inevitably had quite a few discs that couldn't be adopted to the binder system, like all the mini-LP packages and digi-paks. So maybe at the end I'll go through those. Don't really want to start in on them soon_just recently they were shuffled through in my car CD holder.

Wessell "Warmdaddy" Anderson: Live at the Village Vanguard (Leaning House Jazz) Ray Appleton: Killer Ray Rides Again (Sharp Nine Records) Louis Armstrong: Plays W.C. Handy Satch Plays Fats (I know, I know, its a pathetically small collection of Pops. Harold Ashby: Just For You (Mapleshade) On The Sunny Side of the Street (Timeless) What am I here For? (Criss Cross) I'm Old Fashioned (Stash Records) Any of the above would make a fine addition to the "small group swing" suggestions. Georgie Auld: Plays the Winners (A CDR transfer of a pretty rare LP, with Frank Rosolino and Lou Levy) Roy Ayers: West Coast Vibes (United Artists, another CDR of a rare LP-thanks Bill!) Mads Baerentzen Trio: 785 Madison Avenue (Music Mecca) An import I ordered because Eric Alexander guests Benny Bailey: Grand Slam (Storyville) Dave Bailey: One Foot in the Gutter Two Feet in the Gutter Gettin' Into Somethin' Great hard bop dates, the Bastards often have at least some of these in stock and they shouldn't be missed. Chet Baker and Art Pepper: Picture of Heath Kenny Barron: Invitation (Criss Cross) 74

Snap your fingers, and make it sound WAY better!!!
Dan Gould replied to Rooster_Ties's topic in Miscellaneous Music
There's an LP (still available at Cadence, BTW) on VGM records, Nancy Wilson Sits in with The Three Sounds. Nancy sounds flat out horrible because of massive tape saturation on her microphone input. Totally unlistenable, so if I could snap my fingers, that would be a good one to "fix". BTW, its still a worthwhile LP (especially for $6!)-half the record is just the trio, and they sound fine. -
No, and did I mention the roof may need replacement?

My wife's mother, aunt and sister are finally seeing the new house on Sunday (and they only live 45 minutes away, its taken them almost three months to get down here). But that's dependent on having a functional AC unit. It crapped out yesterday, just before we were planning to sign up for the service contract. ARRGGHH!!!

First, wasn't it also said that Alfred was dissatisfied with the Minor Move session because the ensembles were a little less precise than he liked? Also, doesn't it also say in the Mosaic booklet something along the lines (and I think this was Jackie McLean speaking) that Tina wasn't a real aggressive guy when it came to hustling gigs, etc.? Maybe it wasn't drug problems but a personality ill-suited to the competitive NYC scene?
