  1. I just got back from my interview with Bob Weinstock. The answer is ....... None of the above, because Gitler is wrong. The date was always intended to be a quartet, not a quintet.
  2. True Blue and Seventh Avenue Stroll are both highly recommended. The former features Kenny Kirkland, Tain Watts, Branford and Nicholas Payton. The latter just has rhtyhm accompaniment, Tommy Flanagan or Stephen Scott. The Marksman was his first CD, a bit more conservative but some pretty good blues playing on it, with Marcus Roberts also getting plenty of solo space.
  3. Well, then, why not start your own, "The Following People Wish To Be Included In All Future Blindfold Tests," post your name and address and anyone else who wishes to can add their name and address to the list.
  4. King Fleming's Argo and Cadet LPs are well worth tracking down; my preference overall is for the Cadet LP, Weary Traveler.
  5. The good Doctor is right on everything except for Kenny Washington. This is a great CD.
  6. I'm sure you do that only because Jeeves as well as the handmaidens are unionized and earn $25 an hour with full medical benefits.
  7. No I think she realized that without genitalia, Ken isn't really that much fun.
  8. I agree with John. People should make an affirmative offer of personal info rather than having it spread around. Plus, participation isn't always ongoing, people take a break from one and rejoin with later tests. Plus, if you're e-mailing to say you want to participate, how much more time does it take to bang out your mailing address?
  9. According to AMG, you're wrong. But then again, on Saturday I could go to the source and ask the owner of Prestige if his company gave Oliphant a leader date. B)
  10. I'll keep that one in mind. Also thinking of a little cross-sauceing though I'm not sure if it will work or not. What about the sauce that goes on Sesame Noodles, which starts with peanut butter but adds sesame oil, garlic, soy sauce. Or maybe I should play it safe and just make Sesame Noodles as a side dish!
  11. Luck! February 14? Does Mrs. Gould know yet? Bring flowers and candy! For both of 'em! Actually, the Mrs. has to work Saturday, giving me time after the interview to put together the "surprise" Valentine's dinner-scallops/shrooms/peapods/broccoli in the wok. Bit of a risk, since I usually do pork or chicken. Just gotta figure out a sauce for it ...
  12. Put me down for the usual suspects: flute; soprano, violin (though there are exceptions to each).
  13. Both albums are highly recommended; I don't think Grant was running on empty, either.
  14. I'm pretty sure Sweets Edison was in there, too. I think a lot of people will jump on the Jazztet stuff though once again, I curse the day I went in search of those missing LPs. If I'd only known ...
  15. No, according to AMG, that's Gene Harris AND the Three Sounds, not to be confused with Gene Harris OF the Three Sounds
  16. Thought you'd all like to know that I finally nailed down an appointment with Bob, for this Saturday, Feb. 14. Wish me luck, and thanks again for everyone's suggestions!
  17. All you have to do is contact their US Distributor: Stateside Distributors-1004 N. California. Chicago, IL 60622-3408 Attn: Pete Crawford. Phone toll-free 1-888-776-0436 or e-mail stateside@prodigy.net He also has Stunt and Timeless, three CDs or more and shipping is free.
  18. Yes, to my knowledge, that's the original cover.
  19. Well, people just need to hang in the thread for a few minutes before and after 12 pm, keep clicking "refresh" to see who all has "joined" the party. And when the party's "over", we should post this image:
  20. Absolutely. I performed like Johnny did when he was sober: .297
  21. Considering that Tim's politics precede him, its clear that Berigan or myself will be handling his application, but thanks anyway, Mark.
  22. Eastern Standard Time is GMT - 5, so set your watches accordingly!
  23. I just realized we're a bit less than a month away from the first anniversary of the death of the Blue Note BB and the birth of the glorious Organissimo BB! From the earliest registration dates I can see that March 6 was the day of death/resurrection and I think we need to celebrate the first birthday right. How about if everyone logs on at a particular time, like 12:00 PM Eastern time on March 6 (that way its 9 AM on the west coast and not too late in Europe) and we try to set the new record for most members online at the same time? And we do it by congregating in a single thread, "Happy Birthday Organissimo" where Jim can cut his cake:
  24. Some have noted that two disc tests require more listening time plus it may be difficult to follow the discussion of so many different tunes. We've now had two two-disc tests plus we're trying to come up with an FAQ for newbies, so why not come to some sort of board consensus on the issue, or at least have the discussion?
