I tried to give a hint that something was up by changing my profile "Location" to "We're Closing On Wednesday, so watch this space!", just to see if anyone noticed, but ... I guess I'll have to be a bit more direct! My wife and I just closed on a Townhome in the lovely city of Delray Beach, Florida. Here's the front (if you can't guess, we're on the left): And here's one of the best features, the actual backyard (most townhomes have less than a postage stamp spot to call a "backyard," this one, being built in the mid-80s when builders weren't quite so greedy, so they included a backyard instead of building a second unit!) That's a star fruit tree on the left, there're also papaya, mango and banana trees. Now we're going to have a Media Room with TT, Changer, all the CDs and LPs and a big comfy leather recliner. I may never leave! (my wife gets Direct TV, so she may not even notice that I'm upstairs

David, Its a great CD, with superior versions of Just In Time, You Make Me Feel So Young and the title track. Great find!

Sorry I missed my cue I first traded for a cassette copy of this, purely as a favor to Bill Fenohr and his search for every BN issue up to the relaunch of the label in the 80s. But once I gave it a listen, I decided to track down an LP copy for maximum fidelity. Its not your original Sounds. There are strings and orchestra involved, and some vocals, though of the "ooh aah" variety, and hardly that noteworthy. What you do get is an enormous amount of funky, soulful Gene Harris piano. The "Soul Symphony" takes up all of Side 1 and was written by Monk Higgins, who actually started the composition while in college, and ultimately expanded it and adopted it for Gene specifically. It is an excellent piece, in my opinion, as it goes through various themes to capture the "Negro Experience": Soul Overture, Lonesome and Blue, Red Light District, Saturday Night, Sunday Night Program, Down Home. The music holds attention, and as I said, there's just a load of premium Gene funk and soul here. In fact, I am seriously considering taking a esson from Jim Dye and including a second disc in my next Blindfold Test to include tunes that just won't fit on the disc but that I'd like people to hear. At 26 minutes, there was no way I'd include Soul Symphony on a BFT, but I would like people to hear it. So, if you can't tell, that's a definite thumbs up for this album, assuming you are willing to hear something quite different from the original Sounds conception.

Gibson's stated purpose is to show Christ's suffering. That is apparently the basis of his faith and its all he wants to concentrate on, so why make a movie about his sermons and his message? The whole message is "How Christ Suffered for YOU" Wiz Bang special effects of miracles isn't what Gibson cares about. I don't even think it has a lot to do with what he believes.

Oh, and one more big question mark for the Yanks: What happens with the steroid case? What happens if someone turns state's evidence and implicates Giambi or Sheffield, or praise be, both of them????

Funny how you use the same construction as I did: X number of wins and added players A, B, C. But you ignore the fact that the Sox added four top notch players and lost essentially no one, while the Yanks added all-stars and all-universes but also lost their best post-season pitcher and two hall of famers (OK, its the drunk hall of fame, but still) and replaced them with: Brown: One GM said the likelihood he makes 25 starts is zero. Leiber: Missed more than a season, will he be back at full strength and effectiveness? Then there's A-Rod and Sheffield: Right handed power hitters in a park designed for lefties. (here's my prediction: Soriano hits 50+ in Texas; A-Rod drops to 35-40. No way Sheffield hits them like he did in Atlanta-lots of long outs to Death Valley) But enough already. We'll talk in September, and perhaps there'll be another war in October.

Hopefully, this won't be a problem in 2004. UH, you might consult a calendar. Here's a hint: The next Presidential Inauguration is January 20, 2005

Its certainly true to the extent that the suggestion that the Sox are through and the Yanks can plan the victory parade is premature at minimum, and pretty ridiculous, period. We will see you in October, of that I'm confident. Why? How about because: The Red Sox won 95 games last year and they have added Schilling, Foulke, and Ellis Burks, and the only change in their everyday lineup is Pokey Reese, a Gold Glove second baseman, for Todd Walker, Mr. Good Hit, No Field. They'll also have Scott Williamson for the entire season, and BK Kim nowhere near the bullpen. The Yankees have lost 60% of their starting pitchers and over half of last year's wins. They traded away the only thing keeping Jason Giambi from 140 games at first base (other than Giambi's own knees). They've replaced their departed ace with a 39 year old who's been to the DL 7 times in three years. And they've imported three self-centered whiners, bad apples that Joe Torre has never had to deal with in the championship years. And they're replacing one aging center fielder with an even older center fielder. And last but not least, ask Ghost. The Yankees haven't won a World Series with a Republican in the White House in the Steinbrenner era. But seriously, anyone who thinks the Yanks have clinched a championship and the Sox are toast is loco.

I'm sure you're not saying that A-Rod knocks the Red Sox "into next month." See ya in October.

I'm afraid this one is going to have to be short. I've given it several listens and since I wouldn't hazard a guess at any of the tracks, a blow-by-blow account doesn't seem necessary. Basically, some I dug, and some I really didn't dig. At one point I was thinking, "man, he really digs film music!" and my next thought was, "man, he really digs bongos!" I could definitely do without the vocal tracks, and my personal fav was the very blue track 19. Thanks for the comp., I look forward to the answers and another listen.

I voted to keep it. If you click on the "Top Ten Posters" you'll see that I am perpetually stuck on the second page of that listing, and damnit, I'm gonna crack the top ten some day! And when I do, it will be without gratuitous Babe postings!

After seeing an obnoxious letter in today's NYT claiming that the Yankees will have an insurmountable lead by June, I had to see what everyone else thinks. I'm going with "Baseball Nirvana" though if forced to choose, I think #3 is more likely than the Yankees running away with it.

On Michael Howell and David "Bubba" Brooks. According to the liners, Howell is described this way: -born in KC 8 October 1943 -played with Hutch and Shaw -moved to New York in 1979 -played with Dizzy til 1985 -recorded with Blakey and Dizzy among others -continues to play and occasionally record. Sounds to me like he's stayed active rather then going into production/engineering and he went back to his roots with the Blakey and Dizzy gigs and certainly for this recording with the elder brother of Tina Brooks.
