  1. I have and love my Sony UBP-X800. It's lower tier and less expensive than most others so maybe I don't know what I'm missing otherwise, but I've had no issues. I've read where a lot of people swear by Marantz.
  2. Theatrics aside, I'm pretty sure he's a serious musician and legit talent. I was a big fan of RCHP back in the day. Without his bass playing they'd likely have never grown beyond California.
  3. Flea: " Oh man, the great Freddie Redd has passed away. The man was a transcendent pianist and a major figure of the hard bop era. He lived at our house for a while when I was a kid, I was in love with him, in awe of him. I’d sit and watch him practice, transfixed. Listening to his album The Connection right now, his deep funky solos flying through my living room, working their magic as always. Fly on Freddie you live forever. Rest In Peace. "
  4. I'm wondering if they got more orders than they expected and have to increase production? CD & LP preorders are still up over at ImportCDs as well. This morning's listening via Evidence CD. Brilliant stuff. John Gilmore's bass clarinet on Adventure-Equation =
  5. Hilarious. And they're Canadian! The baritone saves it the most IMO.
  6. I just clicked on the True Blue tab. I do this every now and then since they like to keep things hush hush on what's being offered. If I remember correctly, that Sony disc was the hardest for them to get licensing on from that set.
  7. RIP. Always enjoy his records.
  8. Gotcha. Well, I guess at least some tunes from Ra's extensive output should be considered "standards" at this point? Or at least worthy of stuff like this.
  9. Heads up, Mosaic is selling that first disc of their Lester Young/Count Basie box set as an individual CD for $15. This is the Sony material from that OOP box. https://www.mosaicrecords.com/prodinfo.asp?number=263-01-CD
  10. Regarding the box set fatigue, I get that totally. I love the Dial Mosaic set but have always wanted to put together a shorter playlist (or mixtape ) of some of that material to make it more streamlined. Anyway, this Savoy comp CD is a good one:
  11. Sam Records is reissuing a few of their titles, one of which is Chet Baker with Bobby Jaspar: Anyone have this?
  12. Which type of Ra's music would that be? The moog-heavy excursions?
  13. hell yeah I've only been into jazz for a few years so my mixtape days were all other genres. I still have a few. It's now a funny memory of carrying around a big tape case in my car. What a relic of a bygone age. After that it was CD cases and now - an iPod (and I'm still old school with that thing!).
  14. 2nd Pfizer didn't bother me at all thankfully. Neither shot did, other than an arm bruise at the injection site each time with the first being the worst. I'm thinking that because I actually got the stuff that my system was ready for whatever those shots had. The friends I have that got it without having the virus all had varying degrees of side effects but none lasted longer than a day.
  15. I saw this clip recently, which has the Zaza Kanto kids from Madagascar singing and that first track reminded me of this. It's not these kids (I don't think, at least I'm pretty sure) but figured I'd post it here anyway. Both heart warming and heart breaking at the same time on various levels: Kendrick Lamar?
  16. Got both Pfizers. Creeping up on 24 hours since the 2nd shot and no signs of symptoms. Didn't get any on my first dose either but I know some folks that got the 2nd Pfizer and it laid them out for a day or so.
  17. Yeah, that was the only one I wanted and it was gone pretty quick.
  18. I don't have any doubt it is, just like all of the Sun Ra reissues on LP have a digital step in the chain. These days it seems safe to assume that unless it's advertised as AAA, it ain't. And for this particular album I think that AAA would be impossible anyway. Yeah, it's a record that deserves everlasting life.
  19. That is an INTENSE record. I didn’t know it was considered an underground classic either. Bought it out of the used bins for a few bucks a couple of years ago, amazed by who was involved as listed on the back.
  20. I don't know about Celluloid, but there's some LPs and vinyl promo singles on Axiom. Looking through that label on discogs now and there's some interesting albums...
  21. No Axiom LP. The Hive Mind 45 was the first to market with vinyl, VMP's came a few months later.
  22. Yeah, that's a good one. Are you playing the Pure Pleasure reissue or the original?
  23. The CD can be had for around $20 these days. I think these vinyl reissues may have brought its price back down to reality, especially because Laswell also offers it as a download at his bandcamp page for $9. Now, there's also a cassette of it. that would be interesting. Probably not as crankable I'd guess.
  24. I'm sure they'll sell all of them, but if the prices on a few of those were about 15% cheaper they'd sell a lot quicker.
