Nice! And welcome!

What rock music are you listening to? Non-Jazz, Non-Classical.

The Ludwig-cut LP of this album is outstanding. -
From what I've read, Sonny really took care of himself. Early morning meditation sessions, no late nights, limited to no substances etc. Reaching 90 years for a jazz musician that lived through those early eras is really a feat. Here's hoping his health stays good for many years to come.

what are you drinking right now?
Dub Modal replied to alocispepraluger102's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Winter Hill Mosaica IPA. 6.8 abv. Gift from a friend that lives in MA. Good stuff. -
Those are the 2 Resonance Evans releases I didn't get. I stuck with the DeJohnette sets, of which Another Time was my favorite of the two. Gomez, of course, is ubiquitous across them all.

I guess I should qualify "funky" as in "funky for Morell." It was unexpected from my perspective. Not a bad drummer, but on this one he seemed to let loose a little more.

The discount grocery store Aldi sells LPs from time to time. Of course, nothing as cool as Sun Ra but nevertheless. Those little bodegas probably have a much better vibe about them though.
-
Yeah, me neither but he's playing some inspired brush work here. Maybe it was being in Tokyo or something but he's having fun. Gomez is kind of a drag here but Morell & Evans are in good form.

Marty Morell gettin' funky with the brushes. Some crisp playing on this one. Nice sound as well.

BBQ Sauce & Pickles - Why Do They Go Together So Well?
Dub Modal replied to JSngry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Vinegar balances sweetness. I grew up in a region that basically throws spices in vinegar and calls it sauce, then pours it over pork bbq. Sometimes there's even pickles on those sandwiches. -

Lovely. I passed on the LP foolishly during one of those Target 3 for 2 sales. -
Hardest Instruments to Listen To Played Badly

My neighbor plays trombone professionally in the local symphony. Tone for days. Always nice to hear him practicing. -

This question calls to mind every middle school band teacher that's ever existed. God bless 'em, and sainthood for the ones that were able to pull off cohesive concerts with them. -
Correct. They'd have to do a run of 500 and charge the equivalent of what Craft and the MoFi One Steps go for, but with more LPs (so around $300 I'm guessing for this Henderson set). The retentiveness of the customers in that market is off the charts, so anything less than perfect would be sent back. So they would have to invest in some very high level QC. But...they'd sell out preorder if they did this. Blue Note knows this market for jazz vinyl otherwise they'd never do that Lee Morgan Lighthouse complete set. They have more scale of course than a small player like Mosaic, but I'd have to think those guys can pull some strings, call in some favors, etc. to get it done. All of these small labels press limited run LPs on Bandcamp and for the more well known artists, they sell out in presale (See what Hive Mind did for Sonny Sharrock and what's probably about to happen with Sun Ra's Lanquidity). It can be done, but I have no doubt that Mosaic's heart isn't in that type of product anymore.

Download for me. Would love to have the LPs but without a US distributor I'm out.

One of my personal great musical discoveries was his solo output post Blackheart Man. He was a great ambassador for both JA & reggae music. Some of the writings that Roger Steffens has on Bunny are great reads. Here's hoping that his bio, Old Firesticks, will be published at some point. RIP Jah B.

RIP Neville Livingston AKA Bunny Wailer AKA Jah B. He put out some of the best roots reggae around. Not to mention that he also wrote "Electric Slide," something I learned recently. -
As in Bobby Womack serious?

1 - This first track sounds sped up. It's weird, especially when the grunts start. Then it sounds like a vocal warm up tune. Was waiting for the Butta Gutta's to start. 2 - I've got a live Diz and Bird CD that is from a show in Europe and this sounds like something from that, only the sonics here are better than that CD. Those kick drum stomps are lovely. And this is a tenor right? So not Bird. 3 - This reminds me of those SAR gospel records that Sam Cooke produced for the Soul Stirrers. This isn't one of them (I don't think), but the style is right there. Some serious soul shoutin' going on. 4 - Speaking of SAR Records, one of those singers that Cooke brought under tutelage was Lou Rawls, who sang this song Down Here on the Ground. So someone remixed that tune...and found it. Sounds like a beat RZA would've used too. Nice guitar break here so is that in homage to Green or did they loop his solo? Wes also did this but I think this is Green's playing...This is brilliant. 5 - This has been ID'd already but damn, it's a great tune. Reminds me of some Philly soul tracks too. Lovely 6 - Song has been ID'd but I don't know who's playing. Enjoyable for sure. 7 - ID'd as well, at least the composer. 8 - Quilt talk from Southern Belles with a really nice track overlaid. The tension it builds is really incredible.

Well they’ve stuck with that box color and style for decades, but work in a bicolor splatter LP and people lose their minds. They could probably cover 2 years worth of overhead with a couple of surprise vinyl projects
-
Yes, definitely economics which might include more licensing costs? But every niche label out there is doing limited vinyl runs these days. They sell out almost immediately at around the 500 unit mark, especially if they’re colored variants.
