  1. Yeah me too. Although I'd need to have some folks take pics of me working on the computer and then convert them to posters for the office space.
  2. Agreed. and Natty Rebel is a great album. I overlooked Serious Matter back in '99 but it's got some fantastic songs on it. He was a true original and from what I've read a very kind soul.
  3. Dexter's Take the A Train via CD.
  4. I basically listened to U Roy all day yesterday. A couple of excellent albums:
  5. Awful. The only recommendation I have is that if you, or any of his contacts have the time, please go and get the BTC sudafed for him (store brand if they have it, cheaper & the same thing) and just leave it at the door. Also, if he doesn't have a pulse oximeter, I do recommend picking that up too (probably $30 - $35). It got in my tonsils badly, which made breathing and functioning in general difficult. Sudafed and advil/tylenol were absolutely crucial to alleviating those symptoms. My doc gave me an antibiotic too, which was mostly precautionary based on the color of mucus I had. No idea if it did anything, but I took it just as well. The pulse oximeter can help let one know when you might need to go to the hospital, because if you are consistently below 95% or something like that you need to advise the doc immediately and possibly go on to the hospital. The other thing I did, and this is personal preference, but I basically drank hot water with honey and lemon as much as possible. And then 1 oz of whisky before bed. The whisky worked better than the cough syrup (Delsym is what I tried). I couldn't taste it of course, but it's more medicinal at that point rather than sipping for enjoyment. Best of luck to him. Shit is no joke.
  6. With the current interstate highways, that's about an hour's drive or so at that time of night per Google maps. Back then, I'm wondering if it was more like 2 hours, or even more. Great story.
  7. Quartet with Ed Bickert, Ron Carter & Connie Kay
  8. And now more Ornette...
  9. Coleman's Intro to Harmolodics
  10. Searched but didn't see this mentioned: Snooky Young's Horn of Plenty doesn't look to have had a CD release, nor any repress of its initial LP pressing back in '79. Line up includes Ray Brown, Jack Hanna, John Collins & Ross Tompkins.

    Evan Parker

True. And if he believes in this denialism angle that this virus doesn't exist and isn't a problem then that's unfortunate. I don't really know what his exact point is however, but maybe he's said more elsewhere and I haven't seen it. True as well. However as @Rabshakehpointed out, Parker's comments about them being applicable to COVID "nonsense" indicate he's adapting them for the current pandemic.

    Evan Parker

FWIW, the spoken pieces on that linked recording at Sons D'Hiver are from Kari Mullis, so it's not Parker explicitly speaking. Although it's likely he supports such statements and perspective, it should be noted that they're not snippets from a Parker interview.
  13. Wow - did they also use that gigantic pencil in the corner to write the charts for it? Or his he hanging out with actual giants?
  14. Shakill's Warrior & LIve at the Pit Inn are fantastic albums. I tend to rec the Ra Pit Inn disc regularly because it's got great sound for a live show.
  15. The amounts spent on PR to bolster and soften their image has certainly helped this. This group now has their own permanent channel in many television packages, and if I'm not mistaken there may be a feature on Corea aired semi-regularly. Most don't know about the private navy that ventures out into international waters where anything goes, close ties to the intelligence community, etc., in addition to the interpersonal stuff like shunning friends/family. No idea what the awareness level of this is in Europe and elsewhere in the world but you're right, doesn't seem like a big deal to many here. I have to completely separate that stuff from his music when I listen to it, which sometimes isn't easy.
  16. To me, Chick is almost always an artist where you can't judge the contents by the cover. He had some of the worst album covers I've ever seen, but more times than not I dig the music. This one from the early 00's fits the terrible cover/good music pattern. Much better sounding on real speakers than laptop or phones because you can get the bass and some of the lower notes he's playing.
  17. Ha, yeah. That board will be tripping out all over this thing, likely about how much better the alt takes actually are than what was released. "Have at it" is all I can say.
  18. Been listening to some of Corea's work from the 00's - The Ultimate Adventure & To the Stars and I'm digging it. Consistently engaging compositions and playing. I'm guessing a lot of this work was overlooked back when it was released.
  19. And now some Swedish jazz. Disc 1 which is a duet of drums/piano with Wallin & Johansson.
  20. He was 21 y/o when assassinated under the auspices of COINTELPRO. And remember it took a burglary by activists to expose what that program was. I have doubts about how this bio will handle all of these things including Hampton, but appreciate the use of jazz in the production.
  21. Swiss jazz. Entertaining stuff.
  22. I dont think this kind of opp cost can be written off. They have an asset, but are choosing to let it depreciate without capitalizing on current value. It's just sitting there, and Medjuck is most likely correct in that at least as far as physical media goes, theyre losing any potential income that they could have by licensing it. The market for physical media aint growing. Who knows what the future holds really, but there most likely wont be money for them in streaming. It would seem that if they didnt want to make money on it that they would at least donate them or make it publically available in some way. Everybody loses in this case, so at least thats equitable. Well, on 2nd thought, that depreciation may work in their favor on the balance sheet. As well, if they end up selling at a loss, that does cover some potential tax issues. No idea how cynical these folks may be, but if that's the game they're playing then rapacious would be on the mark.
