  1. It sounds like I may have gave up on this season too early. I've caught the last 5 minutes or so of the last two episodes, so I guess I already know this season's big surprise. ... and where the heck did Ed Begley Jr come from?
  2. Just received both sets yesterday, and based on disc 1 of each set only, I voted for Anita. The JJ's been on my want list for a long time, so I had already planned on getting that one sooner or later. The Anita wasn't even on the radar, so it is quite a pleasant surprise!
  3. Complete Verve Recordings of the Buddy De Franco Quartet/Quintet with Sonny Clark 4 CDs: $450.48!!
  4. Complete Vee Jay Lee Morgan & Wayne Shorter Sessions Not sure which disc -- it's my "Second Genesis" MP3 playlist, which is in the original album order. I still prefer not to listen to the alternate takes all in a row.
  5. Dang! That buyer - gitgrad1998 - is on a Mosaic mission!! He or she has won quite a few Mosaic auctions in the last few months.
  6. Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but the exercises are available as PDF files -- check out tablatures of the demonstrations and download PDF.
  7. That picture looks like it's from an episode of COPS -- complete with guy losing his shorts. Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do....
  8. Who cares?? I watched the first two episodes of this new season, and I can't take it anymore. Horrible writing, annoying characters, and ridiculous plot lines. Whatever magic this show had initially is long gone.
  9. Holy crap, Chuck! In your nice, quiet neighboorhood in Whitehall!?!? Glad to hear things are calming down. If there's anything I can do, let me know.
  10. As much as I love this board, I'm always scared to read anything that has "Last Chance" or "Running Low" in the title. J.J.'s been on my want list for a long time, so that's a no brainer. Looks like I have at least a few weeks before that one gets real low.... I hope. The O'Day is one I never really considered, but after reading all of the accolades, it certainly looks like something I would enjoy. Plus, vocal jazz has the added benefit of being something that is tolerated on the car stereo on long trips, so anything that reduces the amount of Dave Matthews, Coldplay, or John Mayer that I have to listen to is definitely a GOOD THING! A quick search indicates that 8 of the 18 albums included in the Mosaic are readily available, for reasonable prices. Another 4 are available as (expensive) Japanese imports. As Clunky already asked, "who needs nine discs of O'Day??!!!". Would buying a few of the single CD releases be a good introduction to her, or are the import/OOP sessions essential as well?
  11. My cat digs Ornette, but doesn't care for Coltrane's Ascension. That's the only CD I've played that caused her to get up and leave. Or maybe she was just hungry...
  12. I was just looking at those yesterday, mostly out of curiousity (fully paid-off cars are a wonderful thing, it would suck to have car payments again! ). Sticker price ranged from around $28k up to about $36k. Gas mileage isn't horrible; somewhere around 26 highway, depending on the engine. Very cool!
  13. Great Evening! Thanks for putting it all together, Chuck. Chris - it was great meeting you and Catrina! I hope everything goes well on the rest of your trip -- and that you can get all of your CDs out of storage real soon!!
  14. Happy Birthdayissimo!
  15. Glad to hear that Seagate is working out for you, Big Wheel. The one I bought has been working great, but now the laptop has other (non-hard drive related) problems. I've had many Western Digital drives over the years, all the way back to a 40MB (!) that I bought in 1990. None of them ever crashed, so I guess I've been lucky. My "backup" hard drive is a Maxtor 250GB, and my only complaint is that it seems much louder than the Seagate in my desktop. I ended up putting it in an external USB case, so the noise isn't an issue any more.
  16. Clifford Brown - Clifford Clifford Brown & Max Roach Roy Haynes - We Three Roy Haynes - Out Of The Afternoon Wayne Shorter - Etcetera
  17. Yes, that Yahoo thing does suck. They (The Gourds) used to make it much easier to download that song a few years ago. Here's a sample from EMusic.
  18. That's almost as funny as The Gourds cover of Snoop's Gin and Juice.
  19. Wow! I guess those of us in West Michigan are lucky as hell to have Lazaro and Blue Lake Public radio! Highlights from the June 2005 Listener Program Guide: Anthony Braxton, woodwinds/bandleader Grachan Moncur III, trombone Tal Farlow, guitar Bill Watrous, trombone Lucky Thompson, tenor/soprano saxophone Eric Dolphy, woodwinds
  20. Anybody know where to find a reasonably priced new or used copy of Brownie: Complete Emarcy Recordings? I've been completely obsessed with Study in Brown lately, and the box set seems like the next logical step. I was hoping that Yourmusic.com might have it, but no luck. Alldirect has it for $112, with free shipping. Thanks!
  21. Communication. This is what attracted me to jazz originally, and I'm still continually amazed by musicians who really listen to each other, and "converse" musically.
  22. Oh yeah?? We had Japanese for dinner, and also got to see Cedar Walton! My wife, son, daughter and I all went to Chicago for the day -- checked out the Shedd Aquarium, went to the Jazz Showcase, and ate some teriffic sushi. Didn't get to the Jazz Record Mart before they closed for the day, but that's OK as that surely saved me some $$$!
