  1. Very sorry to hear this. He was the first jazz musician I was aware of when I was a little boy. I remember that he suffered a fall a few years ago, and I never heard about him since. Just yesterday I heard a duet of him with Mel Torme on Sirius. I'll play something of his tonight.
  2. My computer didn't work today, and I'm writing from the library. When mine is back up and running, I'll look into these!
  3. Happy Birthday 2011 Bruce!
  4. Wow! How many years would it take to listen to all of that collection at, say, four CDs a day?
  5. Looks great, Mike! I've bookmarked it.
  6. My scheduled delivery dates were Feb. 11-16, and my order arrived today. That's the first time I've ever received an order from Amazon Marketplace that arrived before the first delivery date!
  7. Happy Birthday Michael!
  8. It's packed away in a box somewhere! But one song in particular was a favorite of mine, and I believe that it was one that was withheld from films. I can play it in my head now! Dum dum de dum. Dum dum de dum. Dah dah de dah. Dah dah de dah.
  9. Bill, I've got that one! As I recall, it was released in the US the summer of '71, but perhaps I'm wrong about that.
  10. The Als will sign Ahman Green. I don't know why. They are sold out season tickets, so they don't need the publicity. Former stars who sign with the CFL are always busts. Green is 34, and played last year alongside Jeff Garcia for Omaha in the UFL. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=353123
  11. Today is the 47th anniversary of The Beatles on Ed Sullivan! I remember it well, as I guess everyone else old enough does. A couple of days later, Sarah Palin was born. I felt in 2008 that the press did not sufficiently discuss the youth of Barack Obama and Sarah Palin. At the time, I told my friends that my Meet The Beatles album is older than Sarah Palin!
  12. Jeremy O'Day announced his retirement today. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=352982 ***** Despite published reports that he would sign with the New York Jets, Chad Owens re-signed with the Argos today through 2013. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=352960
  13. Thanks, Dmitry. That place looks interesting. Expensive gadgets usually do!
  14. Dmitry, I plan to spend less than $70 for the Sansa clip+ and the micro SD card combined. I figured that there would be some earbuds for folks on a budget which were nevertheless much better than those which come with the device.
  15. I am thinking about getting an mp3 player to use when I exercise. I have pretty much decided that I will get a Sansa clip+. It seems to be the universal opinion that the earbuds that come with mp3 players aren't any good, and that I will have to buy a better set. Money is a factor, so I don't care what the best in the world are. I will be content with something that is obviously better than what comes with the device. Amazon has some Klipsch on sale right now, but they probably won't be on sale when I am ready to make my purchase. Can anyone recommend earbuds that are a good value under the circumstances?
  16. GA - The first one listed isn't the pre-Atlantic Columbia stuff. It's post-Atlantic (I guess Aretha went to Arista IIRC). Seeing that Sony logo could certainly lead one to believe that it's Columbia material. The second listing IS Columbia material. Oops!
  17. Well, he may indeed be a big ego and a jerk. But considering Texas's reputation for thinking big, I find it easy to imagine any Texas owner wanting to break the record for Super Bowl attendance. I don't think that you can fault Jones for that.
  18. Thanks, Harold. Do you have an opinion of her Arista material?
  19. The Ravens - Their Complete National Recordings 1947-1950 (3 CDs) - $14.25 http://www.amazon.com/Ravens-Their-Complete-National-Recordings-1947-1950/dp/B0000C7PU1/ref=wl_mb_hu_m_T2_2_dp
  20. I've posted this to the Aretha Columbia box thread, and I thought it would be appropriate to post it here too.
  21. Here are eight Columbia albums: Aretha Franklin - Original Album Classics (5 CDs) - $18.09 http://www.amazon.com/Original-Album-Classics-Aretha-Franklin/dp/B003ZBX83C/ref=sr_1_3?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1297127014&sr=1-3 Aretha Franklin - Original Album Classics (3 CDs) - $12.10 http://www.amazon.com/Original-Album-Classics-Aretha-Franklin/dp/B0030BCCAC/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1297127014&sr=1-1
  22. Chris Bauman was let go by the Ticats last week, and today he signed with the Eskimos. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=352869 http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Edmonton/2011/02/07/17186556.html ***** The league announced today that they will again play a regular season game in Moncton this year. Details will be announced when they release the season's schedule. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=352879
  23. OK, what I did was stumble upon an mp3 page where on the left it allows you to click on groups of prices. I've seen this before, but not every time, and I don't know how to get there reliably. Then I clicked on "$1.99-$4.99". Then I clicked on the left on "jazz". Maybe 1% of the titles are jazz. It took me a long time, but I looked at the first 86 pages, up to $3.96. I settled on Herbie Mann Returns to the Village Gate for $3.45, less the $2.00 credit, leaving $1.45. I saw a Peter Brotzmann called Neurotransmitter that some of you might be interested in. I saw one called Bird on 52nd Street. I also saw Bird with Chet called At the Tradewinds. And quite a few Billy Harpers.
  24. I have had only good experience with Blowitoutahere in the past, so yesterday I ordered the Mahavishnu and McLaughlin Original Album Classics boxes (see post #321) from them. I blame my bad experience on the Post Office, not on the retailer. If that's usually the case, I don't suppose it makes much difference which of the major Marketplace sellers you use. By the way, yesterday I received an email from Amazon reminding me that if I ever receive the Sonny Prestige box, I should remember to ask them to charge me again. I responded that the seller (Newbury) is now offering that item for double what they charged me in December, and that I would be happy to pay my December price for another copy.
  25. This all comes as a surprise to me. I had no idea she recorded so much for Columbia. And everything that I have read said that her Columbia recordings weren't any good. Live and learn.
