  1. I remember in the late 60s Prestige put a contemporary photo of Sonny Rollins on the cover of Saxophone Colossus.
  2. I thought this group would be more opinionated regarding Dave Douglas! LOL OK, I'll put Strange Liberation in my queue. Thanks for your suggestions.
  3. I have only one Dave Douglas album, Soul On Soul. I like most of it, and I've been thinking that it's time to consider getting another one of his. I went to Your Music, and they have three: A Thousand Evenings Freak In Strange Liberation Does anyone recommend one of these more than the others?

    Tony Coe

My recollection is that I liked the things I heard that he did with Nucleus.
  5. Che and Tjobbe, how would you rate Strange Place for Snow?
  6. Thanks for your input. Interesting disagreement! For $4.99 I might try anything, so I'm going to put this one on the bottom of my queue, and if nothing looks better before its time comes I'll get it.
  7. Among the British Invasion bands, I go for Manfred Mann. They had a strong jazz influence, as well as Chicago blues, and they had the talent to play rockin' solos. Don't be fooled by Do Wah Diddy Diddy. For a little later, I go for The Soft Machine. They evolved dramtically over the years. Again, they had the talent to solo and extemporize.
  8. Because it won the Grammy last night, I've just added Illuminations to my Your Music queue. Does anyone have an opinion of this one? I suspect that it won the Grammy because the voters had heard of Tyner. I think that jazz Grammys are usually career achievement nods rather than really for the albums honored. But it still could be a good album anyway. So what say you?
  9. Yes! Unless you have all of their other ones. They all sound pretty much the same to me.
  10. Very sad. My first college night club date was to see Jimmy Smith. This was in the fall of '68. At the end of his set, the guitarist and drummer left the stage, and he stayed and said of few words of chatting with the audience. It was a nice touch.
  11. My favorite is Charles Brown, with Bobby Blue Bland a good second.
  12. I put Captain Marvel on my queue when I signed up at Your Music last month. Guess I'll have to move it up!
  13. Tranemonk, I was going to mention the Gerald Wilson box. Let us know what you think of it! It's still on my wish list.
  14. I received the latest Collector's Choice catalogue this week. By coincidence, it mentions that her last Liberty album (Did she record something later?) was Yummy, Yummy in 1969. It was made up of current pop hits, and it looks like it's dreadful.
  15. From the opening page, there is a column on the middle left that lists a few "just added" titles. Click on the "more" link under those titles, and then you will get a full page of all just added titles, sorted by best selling (why I'll never know!). From that page you have a drop down box which lets you sort them in various ways. Change the sorting to "just added", and then on page three after that re-sorting you will find the Miles boxes Thanks Greg. That works for me, except that it didn't come up on page three when sorted by Just Added, but it came up on page seven when I had it alphabetically listed by artist. Chuck, your experience was mine too. After I went to the initial link to the Silent Way box we looked at earlier, I tried to put it in my cart, but the site wouldn't seem to take it. But my next time there, it showed that the cart did take it after all. I want to note that I don't think I was logged in when I put it in my cart, but that it required me to log in the next day to see my cart. Well, this has been an interesting exercise. Now that Tjazz says that it is on the BMG site too, I'll spend my Music Points on it.
  16. The Silent Way box still doesn't come up for me! What the heck is going on? Anybody else?
  17. Craig, I searched for Miles Davis, but I don't see where in the results you can click on new additions. Anybody else see it?
  18. Welcome md!
  19. Curtis Fuller, Disc 1. I have this set since April of 2000, and I've never been moved to open up another disc. It's a good Blue Note session, but not exciting.
  20. Thanks! EDIT: Your link works for me, but I cannot bring it up on my own, even when I punch in the Selection Code number in the search function. I wonder what's up with that.
  21. Congratulations!
  22. I watched Letterman last night and Tommy Newsom sounded terrific, although he more than once ran out of breath before he was able to complete what he had in mind.
  23. Great! I don't think the Silent Way box was ever offered by BMG orignally. Edit: I just went there, and didn't see the Silent Way box. Are you sure?
  24. I've always seen the date as May 5.
  25. I enjoy listening to old radio shows, but I'm not really a collector. After I've listened to them I pass them on. Right now I working through collections of Have Gun Will Travel, Dragnet and a western with James Stewart called The Six Shooter.
