  1. I've seen these at Tower Records when there used to be one in Ann Arbor, and also in Borders as recently as just a few months ago, but stupidly I didn't buy them. Of course, they are now gone
  2. this may be naive, but why arent these on Columbia? Are they bootleg?
  3. YOU GO GIRL!!! ← huh??
  4. any board members going to this?
  5. why are these things delayed?? hasnt it already been made? they have the picture of it up, people have received their review copies-what's the problem?? why can't they stick to a release date?
  6. they've been on sale for about 2 months now. From www.ums.org.
  7. I do too. Maybe I'm not listening as closely as others but I don't hear the crowd noise as obtrusive on this box. It doesn't seem to be that loud at all
  8. Sept 27 is going to bust my credit card! I too ordered the Cellar Door for the low CD universe price and for $10 I got the 2-day shipping, which should give me enough time to listen to the Monk/Coltrane- I'm also going to get the new Neil Young, new Ryan Adams and probably the new Band box set! Ouch!
  9. alright, hasn't enough time passed already? Are any of these ready for release yet??
  10. On the Riverside box they are split across CDs, whereas on the new box each disc has complete sets
  11. Disc 3 is just over 36 min long ← The Japanese releases I have lists the 3 CDs as: 49:29,64:21.39:31 Total 152:81 @ CDs each 76:40, Is this incorrect ? ← I'm just going on memory-that timing for disc 3 is probably correct
  12. Disc 3 is just over 36 min long
  13. depends on my mood, or the day. I like them all pretty much equally, probably listen to the Gil Evans one the least, but I still like it a lot, I just dont have that much time
  14. I liked it from the very first time I heard it. Instantly amazed by his creativity on this record. Melody isn't a bad thing. I've never heard the Bremen etc. concerts.
  15. I honestly can only barely make out what is said during the announcements and repertoire discussion. The mikes seem to just barely pick these up, so these elements wouldnt be enough to recommend it. It's nice to have the crowd noise added, however
  16. I got this at Borders for about $22 (with a coupon), mainly because I didnt already have Waltz for Debby. The remastering is the same as the K-2 from a few years ago, and yes its in complete performance order, with pictures of Keepnews' recording cards on the back of each CD booklet. There are 3 CDs in a hard slipcase, with a separate booklet with a liner note from Keepnews- what is most interesting is that he says he didnt initially approve of this release! Oh, and the interrupted Gloria's Step (what a great tune! I really enjoy LaFaro's writing on this date) has a brief period (cant remember exactly, maybe 10 seconds or so) of silence where the power to the recording machine went out
  17. I really can't complain about the flagship Borders in downtown Ann Arbor. They have one of those elevated rooms unto themselves devoted to jazz and classical (mostly jazz) and the selection isn't nearly as bad as other stores.
  18. this is a nice one, as it comes with some bonus songs and good liner notes
  19. damn. i gotta get to CT
  20. I have google earth on my computer, and it's a great program, very useful. However, the pictures available for close up (only of a few major cities) are from 2-4 years ago. Nothing from the flooding
  21. I know for sure it is not possible to order something in store and use a coupon for it. I tried it last year- I even had the checkout person convinced that she should let me use the coupon, but the register wouldnt take it.
  22. Thanks for the great review! Still not sure if I will get this one or not though
  23. what does a synth-electric piano sound like? You gotta let me hear that at the next show I go to
  24. That's not what I was talking about- I found this thread after searching for electric piano threads and decided to make a comment after listening to some discs featuring each instrument. That brings up another question- does Jim ever play the electric piano, or is it strictly Hammond?
  25. I know, I hit Add Reply before I realized that I wasn't saying much! I guess I could add that I like acoustic piano better than both but in different contexts!
