  1. I just ordered the Anthony Braxton This Time. Christmas will come early for me
  2. That Asbury Park one is a revelation. The extended Easy Money has a great improv-I didn't realize that they stretched it out like that. And the well-known Asbury Park improv is the full length version here, all of it vital. This is one of the very best shows I have heard from this band. I've listened to it almost daily since I downloaded it. And if you're interested in the double trio, check out the show from Sep 1994 (Buenos Aires)-they do a good version of Discipline, and the rawness of the show is fascinating to hear (I believe it was very early in their return to public performance, maybe their first or second show)
  3. It must be next week, then. Here it is on the official Sony Store: http://www.sonymusicstore.com/store/catalo...791&skuId=86792
  4. whats going on...now amazon has Dec 20 as the release date; yesterday, it said there was no date determined yet! And now CDUniverse also says Dec 20
  5. with mediaplay closing, my local store has a number of Dead discs that I am considering (all at 20% off)- DP 19, 20, 23 and 25, Rockin the Rhein, the Fillmore East one from the early 70s, and the Closing of Winterland. tough choice, but I gotta get one at least. I'm leaning toward DP 20
  6. my flag is planted, next to everyone in the Big "O", Chuck and Conn. Series 500, if he signs up!
  7. Is your a Vaio too? Luckily mine is still under warranty so it cost me nothing. I didn't have the drive disappear, it just stopped spinning any kind of CD (CD-R, CD-RW, audio CDs) and recordable DVDs but played regular DVDs without any problem
  8. so is this still on for Dec 27? CDUniverse and amazon seem to think it isnt, and it's not even listed on the Sony store site
  9. I installed Nero on my new Sony Vaio PC and it seemed to have killed my CD/DVD burning drive. I had to have someone come in and replace the drive. There seems to be some issues with Nero software on Sony computers, so I am back to Windows Media or Sonic. WM is annoying because no matter how many times I try to turn crossfading on, it STILL inserts a 2 second gap between tracks, which is very annoying with live discs. And I havent even tried Sonic yet, but I dont see any crossfade options
  10. happy birthday!!!
  11. Ladies of the Road is a good live compilation of the Islands band. Disc one is a collection from the Club releases, and disc 2 is a compilation of guitar and saxophone solos from Schizoid Man performed by that band
  12. Maybe I just need to hear more live stuff. I can't say that disc one of this 3-disc Fillmore set (which is PigPen heavy) is as off-putting as I expected. I just have never gone for the R&B thing too much. I'll check out those Dicks Picks; so far I have 4, 8, 12 (great one!) and 28. There are just so many to choose from, I'm wondering what else I need from pre-hiatus.
  13. just got my 3-disc copy (I would have ordered the 10-disc box when it was announced but I just couldn't imagine sitting through that much PigPen-sorry). Nice little package. The music is better than I expected; I guess I just haven't gone back to Live/Dead enough or something but the interaction between Garcia/Lesh/drummers is fascinating. I will be listening to this one a lot in the next few weeks. I'm also considering getting another Dick's Picks; is there anything from just before their hiatus?
  14. don't forget to check out the new download site, DGM live. there are some shows available there only (no KCCC CDs for these yet), including 2 from the Islands era. as great as the early years are (and I agree with the praise for the debut album), whatever they are doing NOW (or next, in the current situation, as they are on hiatus for 2 years) is most interesting to me
  15. not exactly a gift card. Its just a store credit that you can use certain times during the year. For example, I currently have $13 in borders rewards that i have until the middle of january to use
  16. Is this real?
  17. http://www.hathut.com/ology-content.html In case anyone thought they'd hold off just a bit: For the stragglers, Other Music has it. Other Music also lists a few other OOP HatOLOGY titles as available, and at pretty good prices. Thanks for the reminder. I already have this one but this reminded me that I have to hurry up and get the Cecil Taylor Hatology titles (One Too Many Salty Swift and Brewing Luminous) that I've been putting off forever
  18. no problem here. i have the norton firewall, anti-virus and anti-spam running, and i'm getting both my expected emails and the hundreds of spam as usual
  19. Kerrytown Concert House, Kerrytown section of Ann Arbor, MI! www.kerrytownconcerthouse.com
  20. over in SE Michigan we are getting a light dusting of it. Maybe an inch at the most, and it appears to have stopped
  21. Great record!!
  22. That can't be right. I got that from them last Winter along w/ the 7 Steps box. It can be right, and is. It's the recently reissued (Aug 05) longbox version Gotcha. So besides the box format is there any thing else that is dfferent from the metal spine version?? Identical, except the artwork on the discs themselves is slightly different (for example, the metal spine version of the Miles-Coltrane box had nothing but that dot on the discs, but in the longbox version the discs have the song titles on them). Plus, the book is removable so it's easier to read than the metal spine version
  23. Epitaph vol 3 & 4 are excellent; in fact I listen to them more than the original 2 volumes that were included in the box. Better sound in some places, too. If you think you might be interested in the Great Deceiver, get it!!! 4 discs of some absolutely some stunning improvisations, and the songs from the studio albums differ enough to make interesting contrasts
  24. That can't be right. I got that from them last Winter along w/ the 7 Steps box. It can be right, and is. It's the recently reissued (Aug 05) longbox version
  25. The new Crimson download site is up and running, here: http://www.dgmlive.com/ . You can download archival live material in mp3 or FLAC. I would rather purchase the CDs, but if this is the only way to get some of this material, then that's the way it has to be
