  1. I just got a cheap m3 player and aready have the free Winamp. Do I need to pay for the pro version to be able to download music from my PC to the player?
  2. I was watching a documentary on Buddy Rich last night and really enjoyed the footage with Artie Shaw; what's available from this period?
  3. Keep an eye on Audiogon dot com and HT online forums to get an idea for pricing. I bought my sub used and wouldn't hesitate to do it again; however I was able to see and listen to it before purchasing. Also keep in mind subs are heavy so arranging a local pickup will save you $$ and also may get you a good deal as sellers typically don't like dealing with shipping these beasts.
  4. this link might prove helpful http://www.tweakcityaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11
  5. Sad news indeed. I saw him in college in the 70s. He still had it then and put on a great show.
  6. google showed this http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendid=64636803
  7. finally listened to these excellent recordings! Thanks guys
  8. Bill Heid plays a weekly gig at a club in DC. Of course, the one time I went he canceled even though I was told on the phone he would play . I will have to give it another attempt.

    One of Baltimore's finest!
  10. Well, overall I enjoyed the film though too many performances were cut and there were too many commentaries from people who added nothing. I found the Swedish footage from 1964 striking especially as she was evidently high as a kite on junk (what a waste!) though she was also in a similar state, according to her, during Jazz on a Summer's Day. My wife and I both agreed that she doesn't come across as very likable but what a tough life she had; yes, due to her life decisions but rape and poor medical care were hardly her fault. That said, we both thought the film looked bad with most footage very grainy with poor sound; I know my topaz label recordings from the 40s sound better. It's a documentary well worth seeing but maybe wait for the DVD.
  11. Playing here in DC so I plan to go Wednesday and as it closes Thursday. Has anyone seen it? www.anitaodaydoc.com
  12. I've been very happy with my Jolida 100 cd player. The seller upgraded the tubes to Sovteks (I think). I replaced the power cord and the feet. Very open and natural sound through my Klipsch Heresys.
  13. So enjoying the Quincy box!!!!!
  14. Quincy Jones!! Cruising back from the beach.
  15. My Quincy box shipped. After really enjoying the jazz icons DVD, I look forward to this complement.
  16. Intensity introduced me to "the mighty burner" AND Lee Morgan way back in college so I've always been an Earland fan and, recently, have collected his cds as my interest in the B3 has also increased (there's some B3 trio out of Michigan that's pretty good ) . I also have a wonderful live show from Berlin in 1990 where he is in top form all the way through with an excellent band which he introduces in a enjoyable way. While his later stuff might not quite equal his late 60s and 70s output, the more modern recording techniques really allow the listener to hear his pedal technique and is a great subwoofer workout! I'll look for the above rec and thanks!
  17. From the article I learned that 1. Billy Taylor and Frank Wess went to high school together and 2. Taylor gravitated to the piano due to Wess' mastery of the sax. Good read, I just wish I could attend the performance Friday night.
  18. I've been enjoying Grooveadelphia and thanks Jim for the signed copy. To me, it's a little less funky and more lyrical. a direction I like. Good job!
  19. I've seen him a couple of times, the last on his 99 tour with "guitar goddess "Jennifer Batten who really pushed him. I agree his albums are inconsistent but Who Else is overall very good and well recorded. When he's on, he really is a master.
  20. thanks. ordered the Quincy box. At this price, no rush to receive it
  21. and don't omit the Ellington RCA box. I finally removed all the discs and put them in their own individual cases. The book also fell apart.
  22. interesting discussion for this B3 fan. Jim, were you playing the above system when you were at Twins in DC?
  23. SAw Phil and friends last night for the first time and enjoyed it more than I expected. St Stephen>The eleven>Eyes of the World was quite nice. They opened for the Allman Brothers who played an excellent set ex. Mtn Jam>Dazed and Confused>Mtn Jam. Gregg was in great voice and really playing his B3.
  24. I think if you are burning a cd close to its data time limit i.e. 80 minutes or so, the fastest speed may cause an error. I agree that it does also depend on the burner and quality of the blank.
