  1. I sell a few things here and there on Ebay and I've had very few problems. Of course the occasional jerk, but that happens anywhere. As a seller,I have found that if you ship quickly the buyers love it. I work near a PO so I usually ship the day after payment. Prices can vary quite a bit- sometimes something goes for a very good price, other times it's barely a nibble. One tip I've seen is to have your auctions end on a weekend so you get more eyes seeing it.
  2. Allen, There's no need to respond. It's OK to sometimes let things go, chuckle to yourself and move on. You save yourself and everyone here a headache. Sometimes you guys here are like my two sisters when they were much younger, squabbling and doing the "he did it first, that's why I did it". TAKE THE HIGH ROAD.
  3. MG is not posting lately due to computer/ISP problems.
  4. Here's one I found funny about Kalas and Ashburn: http://www.nypost.com/seven/04142009/sport...e_73_164293.htm
  5. big Al, I hope it all works out OK for your daughter.
  6. I'm wondering what's wrong with Wang? He's gotten pounded both times out- I hope this isn't a trend... I also enjoyed the Bird even though I'm a Yank fan. Baseball needs more characters.
  7. That sucks- she was way cool.
  8. Tell us about his hair. Has he changed it? It's as black as it was in 1969, same style. Guitar playing is different.
  9. I did my April gig last night- Jeff Beck. Riveting concert and some incredible guitar playing. Tal Wilkenfeld on bass, and she was amazing, step for step with JB. It's the next day and I'm still buzzin' about it. For May, Reptet with our own JohhnyE on the skins. I'm getting excited already. Anyone with any chance to see them SHOULD GO!!!! They're a lot of fun and they play great- it's a great thing to hear music that moves you and makes you smile and laugh.
  10. I went to see Jeff Beck last night and he rocked the house quite hard! Yes, he did display the incedible technique, but he played with a great amount of feeling and his band was SMOKIN!!! Tal Wilkenfeld was on bass and JB gave her plenty of solo room and you could hear why- she's an amazing player, truly gifted and plays like someone who's been playing bass for a very long time. On some of the really knotty passages she was even doubling JB's line on bass. Vinnie Colaiuta was on drums, and he's not my favorite drummer but he fits this band very well. Jason Rebello was on keys and he did get one extended solo where JB laid out and he played some straight ahead jazz, with Tal swinging on electric bass. On a couple of tunes JB quoted Hendrix, '3rd Stone from the Sun' & 'Puple Haze'. There was a wicked version of 'Peter Gunn'! On one of the ballads JB played it so beautifully that he hit a pause and the crowd gasped. I don't usually do this at concerts, but JB actually brought me to tears, and then I looked at a woman next to me and she was also wiping away tears. Great, great concert
  11. I can certainly sympathize with you, Fasstrack- I spent some tight years in poverty living alone. I worked as a dishwasher for awhile and only the free food kept me afloat until one cook got fired(drunk on the job) and another quit, so I was drafted into service as a cook. Many years later, I have a deep love affair with cooking and enjoy it immensely. Funny how life turns sometimes. I left the restaurant job and took a job in a bank, and I was so broke that I had to walk a mile or so home from the subway because I couldn't afford the bus fare(days of two-fare zones). Many times I had $5 for food and three days to payday, but the cooking skills I had acquired on an emergency basis got me through. If you can ,get the academic position, as it will provide benefits, which are crucial as you get old and the body shows wear and tear, etc. As sucky as it is, you may have to do some hustling after the bucks for a bit, taking jobs that you hate to keep body and soul together. It blows, but sometimes that's what you gotta do. I wish you the best of luck and I hope things work out OK for you.
  12. Joan Crawford Christina Crawford Albert J. Parkhouse Albert Ammons Meade Lux Lewis James P. Johnson
  13. All hail Chuck!!!! "for he's a jolly good fella..."
  14. Thanks for posting the link to that- I'm going to see Jeff Beck on Thursday!
  15. He did some great guitar work on some Joe Farrell dates, most sadly out of print. This board is big enough to discuss Joe and Jeff Beck, but personally I draw the line at Beck
  16. Second that- killer solo by PM on that, as intense as they come.
  17. Blood Simple, IMO, is still among the best the Coen brothers have done. M. Emmet Walsh is one of my favourite character actors and he was perfect in his role as was John Getz. I loved 'the Man Who wasn't There", Billy Bob Thornton was great in it.
  18. The mirror on the upper left, looks like something dangling there and I don't think it's a participle!
  19. What about Padma? http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=p...mp;aq=f&oq=
  20. That was hysterical!!! Thanks for posting that!
  21. I'm trying to make the May 3rd in Alphabet City- do you know what time you're coming on? I'm looking forward to seeing you guys again.
  22. The shaky stuf could be a side effect of medication. Some of the drugs used to treat schizophrenia cause various tics, shakes, etc.
  23. I saw Joe Farrell at the Village Vanguard, maybe late 70s. he had Joe beck on guitar, Herb Bushler on El. bass and Jimmy Madison on drums. They played a set that lasted about 75 minutes and was 4 tunes, looong solos on each tune. Smokin' stuff.
  24. Too bad they're not doing any cd release- I was at one set and they were fantastic!!!
  25. I bought a couple of their discs(Taylor Ho Bynum & Mary Halvorson), and they are beautifully recorded besides real good music. One day I'll take the trip there when I'm feeling adventurous- it's a bit of a trek from Brooklyn but not from Brookline!
