  1. Here's a freebie with some serious talent playing: http://www.worldfinancialcenter.com/ae/default_new.asp?id=27
  2. Also appearing are John Zorn, Bill Laswell, karl berger, etc. http://www.symphonyspace.org/event/2696
  3. I was just looking on Ebay and someone has the Ayler box at $55.69 and free shipping! I have no connection to the seller: http://cgi.ebay.com/ALBERT-AYLER-HOLY-GHOS...id=p3286.c0.m14
  4. Hello Alec, I'll take one at that price. Thank you very much.
  5. Who cares about the music? Tell us about the FOOD!! Well, OK, they had various and sundry large pots of chili, vegetarian, Brooklyn(don't know what makes it specifically Brooklyn- dese, dem and dose?), etc. I am a native Brooklynite who never lived anywhere esle, so I got a cup of Brooklyn chili and it was verrrry good, spicy but not overwhelming. I also bought two spice rubs from the 'Elephants Hate Chili' folks, a bag of chili peppers, a spice rub from some Guyanese folks(I tried their hot sauce and it was incendiary!!!) and a jar of chutney. I made some chicken cutlets with the 'EHC' rubs and they were excellent. I'm glad I bought them because the jars of spice rub were $5.00 each, but on their website it's $5.99 with $6.00 shipping(They're in Africa)! I also made some chili with some ground beef, small pieces of flank steak, kidney and cannelinni(sp) beans and used some of the chili peppers I bought. I also made vegtarian chili for my wife and used more of the chili peppers. On Sunday I made curried chicken and cauliflower and used more chili peppers. I'm thinking about how to use more chili peppers for tomorrow's dinner. Sorry to derail the thread, back to live shows...
  6. Probably tacky to reply to myself, but yes he can & did. Go Brewers!! Congrats to the Brew Crew- the difference today between them and the Mets is that the Brewers got the big hit late to win.
  7. I went to the annual Chile Pepper Fiesta yesterday at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens. Of course, loads of chile peppers, hot sauce, spicy food, etc. They also had a tent with a stage and music. I caught a full set of a singer named Falu, who dubs herself the 'Hindi Indie' and her music combines rock + Indian music. She's got a great voice and she's quite a good singer, too. I enjoyed the set so much I bought her cd. While not quite as good as she is live, the cd has some very good moments. here's a link to her website: http://www.falumusic.com/ Here's two youtube clips:
  8. Which Oliver Perez shows up for the Mets today, the one that can pitch 8 innings with two hits and 9Ks, or the one that pitches 4 innings with 6 walks? Massive clutch performance by Santana yesterday, complete game shutout knowing his bullpen is bull----. I feel sorry for the Mets fans, I am just an old softie. I have been there too many times. Perhaps their GM will learn next year a (good)bullpen is important! Braves thought for years it wasn't that big a deal, and kept getting bit in the ass by it...Smoltz would have won 20 Games in 2007 with a good one. and Santana was 16-7 for the year, 2.53 ERA, best in the league. Why so little Cy Young talk for him??? His bullpen blew 7 games for him. Better not be Webb this year. Lincecum, Sabathia, or Santana, should be the choices, IMHO.... While I can see the argument for Lidge, what Lincecum did for a crappy team really impresses me. Santana got robbed by his bullpen- if not for them he would have at least 20 wins and I believe he led the league in ERA.
  9. Which Oliver Perez shows up for the Mets today, the one that can pitch 8 innings with two hits and 9Ks, or the one that pitches 4 innings with 6 walks? Massive clutch performance by Santana yesterday, complete game shutout knowing his bullpen is bull----.
  10. Is Robin Roberts still with the team? No, I believe she's anchoring the WGN-TV news. Ah, the old sex change trick. When I first got cable I tuned into ESPN and they announced that Robin Roberts was up next, so I thought the ex-pitcher had a gig there. Instead it was the female Robin Roberts! She did a great job.
  11. 3 times in '99, '98 & '96 each time losing in the first round to the eventual champion Yankees. Their moment of glory was winning game 1 in '96 vs. the Yanks 6-2. It was a close series as game 2 went 12 innings. Game 3 took a 2 run on-the-road 9th for the Yanks to win. In the clinching game 4 the Yanks came back from a 4 run deficit. In 1999 the Yankees swept the Rangers in 3 games and allowed 1 run for the series!
  12. I've latley been interested again in Jim Campilongo, so I go on Ebay and go to a Buy it Now listing and purchase 'Heaven is Creepy. A week later I get an email from the seller that they don't have it and they're offering a refund. Today I looked and the same seller has the same item listed! Did they somehow find it? Did they ever actually have it? Is this some sort of scam? I may be naive, but I thought 'buy it now' meant exactly that, I pay immediately and you ship right away. here's the latest listing by the same seller of the same disc: http://cgi.ebay.com/JIM-CAMPILONGO-HEAVEN-...p3286.m20.l1116
  13. They've had Halloween candy at the supermarket I go to since AUGUST!!! I avoid candy corn like the plague, because I'll sit down and eat half a pound if it's in the house.
  14. I love Fela with all my heart, but this kind of stuff gives me the heebie-jeebies. I also don't trust "Afrofunk" bands that are mostly Brooklyn honkeys either. What next "Huey Newton!" the musical? Have you ever seen Antibalas? They're not a band of 'mostly Brooklyn honkeys', they are mutiracial, and Brooklyn has quite a few people who were born in Africa. I've seen Antibalas play and they would be a perfect fit to a musical about Fela as they draw much inspiration from Fela. Perhaps you should try listening to their music.
  15. For future Road Shows compilations, Anderson and Rollins will have not only their own archives and Carl Smith's to draw from. "People have also submitted things to us," says Anderson, "most recently a tape from Keystone Korner in the mid-1970s and a cassette from the Bottom Line. The bands are different, the material's different; the one common denominator is Sonny killin' through all of it." I saw Rollins a bunch of times at the Village Vanguard around '73/4, and if there are any tapes of those shows, well, those were staggering. Imagine a packed club with all jaws scraping the floor as Rollins blew everyone away. He had a great band then, too, with Mtume, David Lee Jr, etc.
  16. In the present environment(free agency, one-way contracts, losing teams get weak schedules) no team should go more than 3-4 years between playoff appearances. If they go as long as the Lions & the Raiders it's because of shoddy management. Matt Millen is a disgrace and should have been fired 2-3 yeras ago.
  17. The Big Bang is coming out tomorrow? I thought they were still trying to recreate it in Switzerland!!!
  18. Guy, Good luck on your triathlon- if you're in need of advice you can always ask JLO, she just did one!
  19. Ah, the judge probably just said that so he didn't have to read the damn thing! Could be, that was the most difficult book I've ever read, bits of Latin, French(good thing I studied both in high school), a play in the middle of the book, etc. I spent about 2-3 hours a day on it for over a month.
  20. Mine is 83, but they list the local library as being alomost half a mile away when it's about 5/6 blocks away.
  21. In high school(a Catholic school) I read Joyce's 'Ulysses', ans my copy had a copy of the court order overturning the banning. The judge found that it was not obscene.
  22. Isn't it 'Invaders From Mars,' the B&W film with the spaceship drilling into the land behind the house and everyone keeps falling into the hole and having an operation to implant a device to control them?. That's the one! I saw that many times over on TV as a kid, when they had Chiller Theater and my local station would play the same movie about 3/4 times in a row. That was another movie that scared the crap out of me as a kid. There was the creepy-looking head in the glass bowl also.
  23. For some starnge reason I remember 'The Boy With the Green Hair' from my childhood, seeing it when I was about 5 or 6. The really odd part is that at time my family only had a black & white TV! http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0040185/
  24. Franny Zoey Philip Johnson James P, Johnson Meade Lux Lewis Pete Johnson
  25. Keeps me sane at work for a week listening to new stuff, and then I pass most of them on to new homes eventually at around the same price. basically breaking even financially on it and learning about more music. Works for me and Dan is glad to sell them, so win-win. Do you get to listen to music while you're at work, John? If so, I am super jealous! It is true that John passes the music on at low prices. At least he has to me in the past. I've dealt with Felser as both buyer and seller. He pays promptly and sells at a very resonable price- aces to me.
