Hello all, I'm interested in checking out Joe Pass, but I don't know where to begin. Can anyone recommend a disc or two of his that you think is his best work? Thanks to all who reply.

Anybody into Boule, Bocce or Petanque?
PHILLYQ replied to Dmitry's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Catesta, The courts at Marine Park are very nice, the added third one was built about a year ago, and the two originals have been very well maintained. The park itself is very nice, with basketball courts, tennis courts, handball courts, a bicycle track, walking track, cricket, baseball/softball fields, even workout stations where peole can do various calsthenics. -

It's also big at Marine Park near me. Some of the bocce players are also members of the Marine Park Civic Association, so they had enough juice to go from two to three bocce courts and to have lights installed so that they can play at night. I see them out there with the rulers(necessary to avoid silly arguments) regularly. I've played it a few times and it's a lot of fun, but watch it Dmitry, some of these dudes are cutthroat players! -

I don't know for sure, but a lot of funky stuff like this was edited/faded to make a single. In 1970, the jukebox with some souljazz was still around. -
Johnny E, Let me know when on 10/6 you're playing in Brooklyn- I'm going to see Porcupine Tree that evening, but I can catch you later on.

At $3250.00, that's about $14/disc. Not bad, but not up to the reserve.

I was Chris Webber, and I'm short and I answered mediocre or worse on nearly every question?! I didn't get any under the table payments and I mysteriously lost my times out.

I saw it Saturday and I liked it a lot. Suspenseful, but not an excess of blood and gore, with real attention paid to the story(What a concept!Tell a story!) and the characters. Horror as a genre has become dreadful, a series of flying guts and fancy killing, designed more to gross you out than scare you. 'The Descent' brings you more into the fear of what will happen next- I had a major case of the creeps when watching this one. The act of filming alone had to be difficult, what with the tight angles and small spaces the women were in when exploring the cave.

I've seen her live a couple times, and she sounds pretty good on soprano- Jane Ira Bloom.

It was around 1972, and I had heard Mahavishnu and was knocked out by McLaughlin's guitar playing. I went to a record store(all vinyl in those days!) with a few buddies and one noticed that McLaughlin was on a double album by Miles Davis, so I bought Live/Evil. 'What I Say' floored me, with Miles' pyrotechnic solo and Jarrett's long electric piano solo, and McLaughlin burnin' up the fretboard. Jack deJohnette became a hero to me(musically), and that album led me into more Miles, Jack, Gary Bartz, Airto, Jarrett, etc.

That is seriously SICK(and hilarious)

It's not looking good for Tower at all. I googled 'Tower Records bankruptcy' because I vaguely remembered them filing. Tower filed for Chapter 11 reorganization in 2004 because they couldn't find a buyer, and they still can't find a buyer. The major music companies have now refused to supply Tower with additional product after Tower informed them that Tower would not be paying any outstanding invoices. Tower is also on their 3rd CEO in 4 years, the latest a turnaround specialist. Upcoming liquidation sale is my best guess. It's very rare that a company comes out of Chapter 11, as Tower did, and survives for long afterwards.

He was a pretty good baseball player, though.

Interesting point, Berigan. What if he had done massive quantities of coke(Michael Irvin), then engaged in the same behavior, but immediately entered rehab afterwards? He'd be back in a few months!!!

My first concert, in 1970, was Santana at the Fillmore East. Opening act was Rahsaan Roland Kirk. Would love to hear that now- then, it was bewildering and strange. Now, I'd probably dig it a lot.

20- with shipping it's absurdly cheap, and I also got some soul music, blues, & doowop along with the jazz. Now I hope I get home before my wife on the day the box arrives...

It hasn't been a long time that the kids are in NYC, but in teenage time it seems forever to them. Teenagers can be very resilient, but change of this type(moving a long distance to a very different environment) can be difficult to deal with on top of all the other things that teenagers deal with. One thing I would check into is how school is for them- are they having social issues at school, such as being treated like outsiders, not being considered 'cool' enough, etc. That may be fueling their desire to go back to AZ. Counseling may also help, as sometimes a third party without any stake may be able to clarify what's bugging whom and suggest ways to work it out. I'm not all that sure that moving them back to AZ will resolve everything for them in the way that they wish. That's my $0.02, and I hope things work out OK for all.
