  7. Besides the lower cap this season, if no agreement is reached then 2007 is an uncapped year, so teams can pay whatever they want. This could tilt the balances towards the big money teams, as an owner like Snyder in DC could go hogwild like a football version of Steinbrenner. The vaunted competitive balance would just disappear, and you may have teams analagous to the KC Royals in baseball, low budget teams that are just cannon fodder and developmental teams for the big boys.
  8. I had a night last week where I could actually go out and catch some live music(A rarity for me.), so I searched listings at everyplace in Manhattan, and I came up with nothing that caught my fancy. I decided to check out what was at The Stone, and they had a group called Rashanim, who are described as 'Jewish jazz-rock'. Intrigued, I hunted around and listened to a full tune of theirs and I really liked what I heard, so I decided to go to The Stone. Besides, I figured if they stunk I was only out $10 and the $ went to the musicians, so no great loss. The Stone is a small room, no drinks for sale, no stuff up on the walls, plastic folding chairs and a capacity of about 70-80. When I came in they had both Rashanim discs for sale at $25 for the two, so I bought them. THESE GUYS ROCKED!!!. They are a trio of guitar, bass & drums, and what they play certainly owes a lot to jazz, rock, and some of the melodies they played sounded klezmerish. Some of the things the guitarist(Jon Madoff) played definitely had a Middle Eastern bent to them. The drummer(Mathias Kunzli)sp? was an absolute monster, driving the band by playing some beautifully timed/placed accents and framing the rhythm to provide a bed for the guitarist to fly on. The crowd was young, looked to all be in their 20s, and that was a very positive sign to me, that young folks(I'm closing in on 50) were interested in music that had some substance to it. I'd highly recommend them to anyone, I was that impressed. They are on Zorn's Tzadik label.
  9. I started with McLaughlin & Mahavishnu, then I discovered an album(Live-Evil) that had Mclaughlin & Miles. This led me to Chick Corea, Wayne Shorter, etc and a branching out to people who played with people who played with Miles. Through Miles I've heard so many other great musicians. Here it is, 30+ years later and I still love it. Thank you Miles

    Neil Young

As was said before, his music is honest and comes from the heart, not a calculated package designed to sell.He definitely brought a serious edge to CS&N that made them much better.
  15. The odd combinations you get when you sell some stuff for your son as well as yourself.

  21. I agree with you there, Dave. the saddest part of Bonds and his usage is that he would have had a HOF career without juicing. Around now he'd have passed the magic 500 HR mark. As for Sosa & McGwire, they wouldn't have come that close without juice, especially Sosa.
  22. All the websites in the world with the names, etc. of every perv of every type are useless unless you teach your kids to avoid strangers, don't take candy ,etc. I agree with Chuck & Weizy here, and we also have to keep in mind that say, Luis Polonia would have been on the list in Wisconsin. Luis Polonia, as a 19 year old baseball player, had sex with a 16 year old. Not a big deal, consensual all around, but a sex crime nonetheless because the age of consent in Wisconsin is 17. He would have gone down as a sex offender for being a horny teenager having sex with another horny teenager.
  23. I had one occasion(out of over 100+) where I sent a disc to a guy in Canada and after a month he still didn't receive it. At that point I refunded his money, with the explicit understanding that if the disc showed up he would pay me back. Two weeks later the disc arrived- The Canadian PO somehow sent it to Zimbabwe!
  24. We did the Valentine's stuff on the Saturday before, so we skipped any blizzard problems. We went out to dinner(Myself, my wife and our son) at a Turkish joint that we like a lot, and I got some nice flowers and cards. My wife got me some candy.
