how many more mos/weeks of TOWER
PHILLYQ replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Miscellaneous Music
I just dropped by the one on Wabash Ave in downtown Chicago to check on progress. 30% off most stuff, 25% off box sets. There was a lot less activity than when the sale first started and a lot of "product" left on the shelves. Anyone have any other Tower sale checkups to report? There is almost nothing worth looking at in the 4th & BWay store anymore. As I originally suspected, it looks like they are trying to shut this one down quicker than the others due to the monstrous rent. I get the feeling that they must be moving product from this store to others, because based on my observation it doesn't look like consumer activity alone can be depleting the shelves at this rate. I went to W 4th Street today also, and there's very little left. The folks behind the counter were talking about mid-December as a shut down time... -

We'll probably never know the truth, but I wonder what really happened in Reynolds' case. Was he too touchy-feely, did he say something he shouldn't have, etc? I've heard(possibly even here), that Reynolds is quite the womanizer, perhaps he got a bit carried away? It also seems rather ironic when ESPN at times pushes sleaze in its programming and attitude.

Last Thursday I went to the Tower on Broadway and West 4th in NYC, to both bargain hunt and to get one last walk through the store. The discs were 20% off, so no great bargains for their full price merchandise. I hunted and hunted and found a half dozen discs(one a 2 disc set) for about $80 with tax. Good, but not great. The selection, however, is pretty well diminished already. The racks looked like they'd pretty well picked over, with lots of blank spaces on the racks. There were signs all over the store that exhorted all to buy now or it might be gone. A litle twinge of sadness after all the times I had shopped there and discovered something new, but life must move on.

Those are his best albums ever, in my opinion. Awakening has the most erotic cover I have ever seen. I saw Sonny a few years ago in a quintet with alto saxophonist Frank Morgan, a two alto group. Morgan was tasteful and appealing. Sonny blew the roof off of the hall, taking it to many levels above the rest of the performance. Are those the ones with Charles Sullivan on trumpet & Billy Hart? If so, I loved them- Sonny did some excellent work on those. I even saw that band(Hart, Sullivan, Onaje Allan Gumbs, bassist?) once and they smoked!!

MY $0.02 on what the Yanks need to do to improve the starting pitching: 1) sign Mussina at a reduced price($17MM is too much for one year) for no more than 1-2 years, 2) Get Zito!, 3) Bring up Hughes, in AA now but supposed to be a can't miss guy, 4) Tell Big Unit to get surgery and take his time coming back, like say, return in November after his contract expires , 5) Deal A-Rod if the Yanks can get a package from the Angels similar to what was offered to the Orioles(Ervin Santana, a young fireballer and a third baseman). Does Brain Cashman hang around Jazz bb's?

Slight changes in the California shows (and the Boston location), per the PT website: Oct 05 2006 BOSTON, USA: Berklee Performance Center Oct 06 2006 NEW YORK, USA: Nokia Theater Oct 07 2006 PHILADELPHIA, USA: Keswick Theater Oct 08 2006 Washington, DC at the State Theatre in Falls Church, VA Oct 11 2006 LOS ANGELES, USA: House of Blues Oct 13 2006 SAN FRANCISCO, USA: Fillmore Also, the opening act for the California dates is now the Tony Levin Band. NY, Boston & Philly still have ProjeKct 6, as far as I can tell. And there are some September dates for Yurp, too: Sep 13 2006 CAMBRIDGE, UK: The Junction Sep 15 2006 PARIS, France: Elysée Montmartre Sep 16 2006 ANTWERP, Belgium: Hof Ter Lo Sep 18 2006 ROMA, Italy: Teatro Tendastrisce Sep 19 2006 MILANO, Italy: Rolling Stone Sep 21 2006 PRATTELN, Switzerland: Z7 Sep 22 2006 MÜNCHEN, Germany: Muffathalle Sep 23 2006 SAARBRÜCKEN, Germany: Garage Sep 25 2006 HAMBURG, Germany: Große Freiheit 36 Sep 26 2006 ESSEN, Germany: Weststadthalle Sep 27 2006 AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands: Paradiso Sep 29 2006 LONDON, UK: Astoria Sep 30 2006 MANCHESTER, UK: Manchester University, Oxford Road Oct 01 2006 GLASGOW, UK: Carling Academy edited to add Oct 8 show in Washington DC (w/ProjeKct 6) up - anybody here get to see any of these shows so far? PT are playing Los Angeles tomorrow night, and San Francisco on the 13th. From all accounts I've read, the shows have been quite good. About half the material has is stuff they're working on for their next studio cd, so it's new, but the feedback seems pretty positive. I'm curious about the ProjeKct 6 stuff as well. Very ready for another Crimson studio recording. I went to the 10/6 show at the Nokia theater, and please keep in mind that I am not a big PT fan, and I'm only familiar with the 'In Absentia' disc. Fripp & Belew(AKA Project Six) opened up, with Belew playing electronic drums that triggered bass riffs at different points in the pieces. Mostly Belew just kept a solid beat on the drums, with not a lot of flourishes or fills. This is in keeping with Fripp's concept of the drummer as timekeeper only, which led to many clashes with Bill Broford over the years. Anyway, Fripp played his usual- guitar run through stacks of effects, etc that at times sounded like a synthesizer, a guitar, etc. His playing was quite fluid and he seemed to be improvising quite a bit and soloing with great abandon. They played for about 30 minutes, with no tunes that came from KC or anything else I recognized. They were quite enjoyable, and Fripp seemed to be having a blast - he even smiled more than once! Porcupine Tree played the first 40-45 minutes with exclusively new material, and some of it was verrrrry good, very hard rocking and featuring the usual odd time signatures, etc.that you find in prog rock. After a short break, they came back for a second set of previously recorded material. This definitely set the crowd on fire, and they dug into the material with great gusto. I didn't hear anything I was familiar with in the second set, but my 50-year old legs were shot by then from standing for such a long time and I had to sit outside for awhile. As I said, this was my first time seeing PT live, and they were very good. WARNING!!! Bring earplugs(I was very glad I did), PT is louddddd!!

Jim, Your dear daughter is acting like a two-year old! As far as the poop on the floor, she's getting there, it sometimes takes awhile before the child gets the hang of 'sit on potty, THEN do your thing'. I think as long as you don't make a big deal about it this phase will pass. The terrible twos can drive you wacko, but she's testing her limits. Just remember that when she's about 4-5 she will proudly tell everyone that you are HER daddy.
