  3. I hear ya' brotha. Football blows. About 60 days to pitchers and catchers?
  4. Man, I wish the guys in the White Sox front office would quit sitting on their wallets and at least make an offer. I mean hell, to see Manny in a pair of clean sox would just be heaven. This idea of speed, defense and hot pitching is great until a pitcher gets hurt. And then what? We go to Marte or some other guy who sits on the bench most of the time for a reason? Sheesh. This Juan Pierre guy looks interesting though. Hits for average and runs like Pods? Too bad the Marlins want Rowand in return. ← Juan Pierre has great speed but hardly walks and thus has a rather low OBP for a leadoff guy. He also has no arm, so the Chisox are better off not making a deal to obtain Juan Pierre.

  8. Well, its a shocking deal, certainly, because Cameron was considered to be worth a heckuva lot more than what San Diego is apparently giving. Wasn't he supposed to end up as part of a package for Manny? I have to guess that Cameron's stock has gone way down since that collission. I'm also not at all certain he's quite the superstar Johnny makes him out to be. Yes, he's won a couple of gold gloves. But its a stretch to say that he's an automatic 25-30 homer guy. In the seven seasons he's played at least 140 games, he's hit 25 homers twice, 30 once. The other years were 8, 18, 19 and 21. He's also a .249 lifetime BA and he strikes out a ton. Frankly, I'll be glad if this trade goes through cuz that means he won't end up in Fenway, where he couldn't carry Manny's son's jock. ← The rumors in NY are that the Cameron/Nady deal was made by the mets for two reasons: 1)payroll flexibility(Cameron makes around 6-7 mil this year, Nady 500m) 2) Part one of a Manny deal. Dan, you may get Nady on the Bosox.
  9. They're very good for shipping discs- they help prevent damage to the jewel box.
  10. This could be a horror movie title, "Waiting for the Cellar Door", with appropriate squeaky door sounds as our intrepid hero strives to get the 'Holy Grail' of that Miles period, dodging the Wilburn monster who attacks with sticks(and stickers).

  12. Buy with confidence- I recently bought something from Stefan and it arrived quickly with no hassles, no problems at all.
  13. In the US, the ratio of junk, disposable movies to good/great movies is getting worse every year.

    Kirk Lightsey

This is a weird and true story about Kirk Lightsey, but I don't recall the year it happened. He was arrested, booked on charges of fondling various women on the NYC subway. Upon further investigation, not a single woman could identify him as someone who did anything of the sort. The police began to look at the arrests by the arresting officer and found that he was just arresting people with no evidence, eyewitnesses, etc- he just randomly arrested people and charged them with crimes! It turned out in the end that this particular cop arrested scores of people who were completely innocent as Lightsey was. Perhaps that had something to do with why he moved overseas.
  17. This is NOT from the Onion?
  18. Good luck, Johnny E- hope the gig is a great success
  19. Sonny Fortune played alto & soprano, no tenor at all.
  20. Can't remember if I own this one, or borrowed it recently from Spontoonious (and too lazy to go look and find out). Either way, it's a relatively solid date, though a bit uneven. By all means, get it if you find it for a decent price -- but (IMHO) it isn't worth a special order all by itself. ← 'Van Jay' & 'Never-ending Melody' are both great cuts on this one.
  21. Congrats, Jazzy Paul and all the other Chisox fans! The contrast in managers was interesting- while Garner was throwing chairs and criticizing his team, Guillen was keeping his players loose and cracking jokes.
  22. It's on the Lonehill label- I don't have time to search, but I seem to recall a discussion here about Lonehill that was not very complimentary, but I'm going only by memory here.
  23. It's possible that he was NOT trying to hit him but rather to pitch him very close, to keep the ball inside(closer to the hitter) to prevent the hitter from extending his arms and getting a good swing on a pitch. With an inside pitch the pitcher hopes to jam the hitter and cause defensive swings that frequently result in pop-ups or groundballs. I believe you also questioned home field advantage and Larry Kart gave you a great answer but he did leave out one factor: in the ninth inning or in extra innings the home team has an advantage because they bat last. If the game is tied in the 9th inning or a later inning and the home team scores, the game is over. By contrast, if the visitors take a one run lead in the ninth or in extra innings, they still must get the home team out without allowing any runs. Last year, the Yankees were playing the Twins in NYC when the Twins scored three times in the 13th(?) inning. The Yankees got up in the bottom of the inning and got a grand slam and won the game. Had the game been in Minnesota, as soon as the Twins scored once in the 13th inning the game would have been over.
  24. I have a solo disc that came out on 32Jazz that is fantastic- he does a little bit of Bud Powell, a slow version of 'Giant Steps' and some truly pyrotechnic piano.
  25. In 'White Men Can't Jump', Jon Hendricks is singing at the beach as the Woody Harrelson character approaches.
