  1. If it's not too late to get in, I'd love to get the download links and check out what you've put together Dan. Thanks.
  2. I like your descriptions of the sound. I'll have to listen to both Ammons and Gordon more closely. ... I think your reference to "the transforming of Prez's scalular ideas into a method of going inside/outside by simple but effective chromatic movement ..." interests me most. Are there other examples that come to mind?
  3. NYT Co. threatens to shutter the Boston Globe Now, what really pisses me off about this is, they've known for years that the Globe is a black hole. They could have tackled this problem a year ago, certainly. Now, all of a sudden, it's concession time or we shut you down? It's bullshit. It's not good for either the Globe (certainly) or the NYT Co. to wait until the 11th hour on this. If you know something is broken, why wait until this late in the game to try to fix it, unless you have no intention of fixing it?
  4. Just took a look at the Red Sox schedule and they have the Rays once and Yanks twice in August; Rays twice and Yankees once in September. I must have misheard Buster.
  5. Check with a Certified Public Accountant! Am I missing something? as in, tax writeoff ... Guess I'm dense—I still don't get it! Maybe I'm wrong. I think it was meant as a simple play on words. You wish you could write your ass off (as in write off your ass in your tax return). Hence, consult an accountant. ....
  6. I haven't been following along all that closely in the off-season, but I'll give it a whirl: AL EAST Red Sox Rays Yankees Blue Jays Orioles AL CENTRAL Twins Indians White Sox Royals Tigers AL WEST Angels Rangers Athletics Mariners NL EAST Mets Braves Phillies Marlins Nationals NL CENTRAL Cubs Cardinals Brewers Reds Astros Pirates NL WEST Dodgers D'Backs Giants Padres Rockies AL Wild Card: Rays NL Wild Card: Braves ALCS: Red Sox over Angels NLCS: Cubs over Dodgers World Series: Cubs over Red Sox (I guess this gives me a slight rooting interest in the Cubs this year) As far as the AL East, Red Sox may have the advantage schedule-wise. I think they play the Rays and Yankees a total of less than 10 games after July 1, or something along those lines. (plucking that from memory off of something Buster said a few days ago). I'm banking that the Rays will be able to squeeze past the Yankees in the end.
  7. Check with a Certified Public Accountant! Am I missing something? as in, tax writeoff ...
  8. They must have swapped out then, because I'm 53 and lately I feel like I'm 80. Well, I do have the memory of a 51-year-old, so maybe I had that backwards.
  9. 80 is the new 50.
  10. For all the hand-wringing over Yoshi's, it seems as though there's a pretty active creative music scene in San Francisco.
  11. Does this mean it sold out? ... which would be fantastic, I'm assuming!
  12. Good luck Dan. This kind of stuff is way beyond my capacity to manage. Here's hoping for bigger and better things!
  13. Would that be a Dickey-way?
  14. There's somethin' fishy going on here.
  15. i saw that one a little while back. will do my best to get that one soon. thanks for the reminder... Welcome thedwork. ... Very good to see you here.
  16. I remember stumbling across this site a while back. Seems like it fits the bill. (Kind of a miracle I was able to track it down again).
  17. This is neither here nor there, but a while back there was some new poster who started attacking me out of the blue, even in threads I had nothing to do with. He/she seems to be gone now. I have no clue what their problemo was, other than a general distaste for me, which I can sympathize with. Maybe it was one of my neighbors. ... Hug it out.
  18. Wynton's most "out" recording (Hope I don't get banned)
  19. Well then she's cute in the first photo, a little beat up in the second and we have no idea what she looks like now. Well, there's no doubt that Mr. ShamWow has better taste in hookers than, say, Hugh Grant... Ouch. ... Well, as far as who got busted with the prettiest hooker, I'm thinking Spitzer is the front-runner out of the gate. Course, he did pay a pretty high price. BTW, I think there's something to the comment above that there's no kissing in hooker-ville. And maybe that's why the tongue got bitten to begin with. He probably violated the no-french kissing hooker etiquette and ... chomp! (I just spent way too much time writing in a thread about Mr. ShamWow and his hooker.)
  20. I think a general observation about Vandermark is that he tends to play on the downbeat a lot. FWIW ... I just sold this set. It's a good set of music, well put together, and I'll probably regret parting with it someday, but I just wasn't listening to it. The one thing I am pleased about with this set is that it turned me on to the Oles brothers, who join in on the last disc for a jam session -- not so much for what they do here, but from foraging around other stuff they've been involved with.
  21. Does this mean he'll have a lisp in his next infomercial? (Come to think of it, didn't he kind of already?) And ... $1,000?! Really? ... This gives a whole new meaning to the term "inflation."
  22. The Austrians are also hardcore limited government types, aren't they? That school of thought that says the markets will take care of themselves if we just eliminate government from the equation. Which is true, I suppose, as far as it goes. It might leave large swaths of us in ruin, but oh well.
  23. No .. not yet. I'm sure there's more coming in a month or two. Got the 5% pay cut announcement today though. EDIT: Now I'm told it's only 2.5% for those of us out here in the hinterlands, offset by an additional week's vacation. So that's basically the same as a one week unpaid furlough.
  24. Talk about lack of common sense. Can't undo what's been done, but the officer should be required to retake the "act like a human being" course.
