  1. Damn, tough choice: Von Freeman or the Cubbies? Not one I'd like to make! It looked pretty frosty in Chicago today. I think I'd take indoors, drinking a beer, and listening to Freeman, myself. And Lilly had a no-hitter through 6 2/3. Meanwhile, Rays raise the AL banner in their home-opener and pound Wang and the Y-y-y-y-y-yankees but good. Wang's got an ERA somewhere around 28 now. Rays are looking pretty nice so far. Hard to say anything this early, but if the offense continues like this, it'll be a huge improvement over last year. Longoria is tearing it up, Pena (unlike last year) is off to a pretty smooth start, Aki's ripping it, and Bartlett is hitting almost as well as Longoria. All good good good. And now with Upton back in the leadoff spot, they should be runnin' and gunnin' full speed. They should be better this year all around, but hopefully especially on offense, and if early indications mean anything, they just might be a lot better on offense. We'll see. Yankees should have a little fire in their bellies after the pasting they took Monday night.
  2. Oh come on Beckett was not throwing at him i agree with what Dan said. I think the ump was probably saying that the timeout was too late ...In fact they give out waaaay too many time outs tell the batter to get in the box and stay there till they throw the pitch. Also Abreu didn't move usually the batter backs up far from the plate after calling time out. The batter doesn't back away until the ump grants the time out. We're talking about a matter of probably one second between the time the TO was called and the delivery of the pitch. Well you have never seen Julio Lugo call time out he practically runs out of the batters box into the visitors dugout while calling for a timeout !!!!!!

I love the way that woman (forget her name) on First Take referred to the little discussion they had as a bench-clearing "brawl" this morning. I thought I heard them say Beckett got a one-start suspension. If he did, was it for the throw or for leaving the mound?
  4. GET IN THE HOLE!!!! (They both made a real nice run before the big el-foldo on the final two holes.) .
  5. Great. Now I'm hungry again.
  6. Sorry to hear of your loss. You obviously have great love for your mother, and that's a wonderful thing.
  7. I use an accountant. Don't trust myself. He's still not done though. And I'm not sure I trust him anymore than I trust myself. He screwed up the 2005 return, earning me a letter from the IRS stating I owed them thousands of dollars -- he hadn't included the cost basis for a stock that I had sold (at a loss), even though he had the information. Turns out the government owed me $10. Keeping my fingers crossed this year.
  8. All very good news. Sounds like a bunch of very positive stuff is happening. Run with it.
  9. Yeah...I hope he'll be OK, too. Website says he'll be alright. Giants win, 7-1. Hit him in the side of the head, made blood gush out of his nose. He's gotta have a concussion at a minimum, right?
  10. I love women. Kooky, crazy, fantastic creatures that they are. This girl sounds like she had all the receptors wide open for the guy. If he'd simply followed the age-old, handed-down-through-the-generations, first date protocol (be nice -- but not too nice -- and pay attention) he'd probably be having a lot more fun.
  11. More like fully alive.
  12. Echo those sentiments. A rich man, indeed. I wish there were more of these sorts of fond recollections.
  13. I hope Dan's OK. I didn't see the last two innings, but the box score looks like it must have been a frustrating finish for the Red Sox. Percy made an appearance. I see he gave up a homer to the first batter he faced. Off to Baltimore next, which, from the box score looks like they had their bullpen implode on them today.
  14. I thought Firefox was supposed to be a lean, mean, no-frills, downloadin' machine. I thought that was the whole idea behind it?
  15. He should put together a tour with Keith Jarrett and Joaquin Phoenix.
  16. I was having an issue with it only when I visited CDUniverse, for some reason. It would close if I started clicking around the site. Other than that, no problems. I haven't updated in a while. I keep ignoring the prompts. Maybe I should update.
  17. That is terrible news. Shit.
  18. Didn't see the opener, but Kazmir looked OK tonight. Got himself in a jam or two, but got out. Change-up looks very good. The pen was efficient as well. Nice to get some hits -- a little long ball, a little small ball. I was kind of channel surfing a bit so wasn't paying that close attention to Lester., but 5 earned in 5 innings has to be a disappointment. Frankly, from what I saw the BoSox looked a little flat tonight -- some less-than sparkling defense. Not unexpected this time of year I guess. The Rays offense was able to put some pressure on them. ... Nice to see Baldelli out there in right field. Love the center field camera at Fenway. The best plate shot I've seen of home plate, I think. You can really see the movement on the pitches and the location much better than more common angle that's slightly off center. Go O's! I wonder if they're ready to make some noise? They had a pretty good start out of the gate last season, too -- for a couple of weeks, if I recall correctly. I think they may have swept the Rays to open the season, in fact.
  19. While I haven't known poverty, I sympathize with your situation. I think this whole job thing comes down to the old saw about who you know, rather than what you know. Networking. There are people, organizations and businesses out there willing to help those who want to help themselves. Find them. Get as many irons in the fire as you can. The teaching thing sounds great, but don't get discouraged if it doesn't pan out the way you envision. Have you considered private lessons? Post a professional-looking ad at a nearby music store. Get to know the folks who run it and see what kind of leads they can offer. That sort of thing. Basically, try to surround yourself with people who support you and can help you, and lose the people who don't or won't. I hope that all didn't sound like empty advice. Things will get better.
  20. Has anyone ordered pizza yet?
  21. It almost looks like a summer evening up there. Nice. Did you see how gigantic Winfield looked in the pregame broadcast? The guy is practically a giant. Either that, or Kruk is a lot smaller than I thought. Nice to have baseball under way again.

  23. Indeed. Have a great day. Eat some cake!
