Things We Learn When We Stay Home Sick and Watch TV

When you've never had a broken bone in your life and nobody in your family has never had a broken bone in your lifetime (except my sister, and even then they said it was a broken wrist), I suppose that's how it could be possible. Sorry Al, I just figured that most red-blooded American males who grow up with a healthy interest in blood and bodily harm would know pretty young what a compound fracture is. And now, assuming that Al doesn't mind, I'll contribute Things you learn while stuck on the couch waiting for pain meds to ease a severe back strain: Jillian Barberie is pretty darn hot, but Extreme Dating is pretty darn bad. I expect I'll come up with more but don't know when I'll add to the list as the couch is downstairs and the office is upstairs, and stairs (or motion in general) ain't my friend right now. What's the Italian women's team handball squad doing in the background? ... really sorry to hear about the back. Back pain is the worst (next to possibly compound fractures.) -
Yes, happy birthday MG. Hope to see you reappear soon.

Nah, where's the fun in that? I was happy to see the Angels steal one last night as well. In the event that the Rays escape with their series, I wouldn't want them to face a well-rested Red Sox team.

Falcons have themselves a quarterback, looks like.

This is how I learned what a compound fracture was. Don't watch if you're squeamish. -
I recall Piniella making a comment after the Cubs clinched a playoff spot to the effect that, "Everybody will think this team is a failure if they don't win it all. That's not true." ... Meaning, they were already a success just by their performance in the regular season and making the playoffs. I figured at the time he was just trying to take any pressure off the players for the post season and he knew damn well they had to win it all to live up to the expectations. At the same time, it wasn't exactly a "rah-rah, lets go get 'em in the playoffs" kind of attitude, and I thought that was a little odd. Not to over-analyze things too much, but I wonder if that comment by Lou and the sort of passive or apprehensive attitude it reveals offer a glimpse into the mindset of the Cubs -- playing down expectations, and then performing exactly to those lowered expectations, rather than having a more aggressive attitude of some other teams (Rays, Dodgers, BoSox ...). I think until fans and players ditch the whole lovable losers/curse thing, the Cubs will always try to tip-toe into a championship without knocking anything over along the way, rather than risk everything in a balls-to-the-wall charge to take one aggressively. IMHO

Now we're getting somewhere. This means the elephant is superior to the giraffe. I figured they were more or less equal (long neck offsets long nose).

A Double Murderer Will Not Walk The Streets Soon

At his age, wouldn't a lengthy sentence amount to a life sentence for him? It would be interesting to see where his conscience takes him if he realized he ain't never getting out. Would he finally confess? -
In other words, a percussionist in Anthony Braxton's nonet.

I'm right there with you ... an elephant. Apparently 25 percent of people are reincarnated as a higher life form than us. Not too bad.

13 years to the day after his acquittal, wow! He's going away this time, it seems. -
Hell Yeah! ... Up 2-0 heading to Chicago.

They were saying that unlike in other ballparks, it was a badge of honor for Cubs fans to stay at Wrigley until the end of a game no matter what the score, and as they were saying this the camera showed chunks of empty seats in the background. Although to be fair, most did stay until way past the point of there being any doubt about the outcome. That was one suffering crowd. Hate to use the "choke" word, but ... they are chocking, aren't they? For the sake of Cubs fans, here's hoping they take two in LA and set themselves up for a storybook run!

At least your heirs will benefit.

AND Three Rivers Stadium held, what, 72K? Not quite. Capacity 38,496 (2001) Although, ballparks.com has it at 47,971 (baseball). Those numbers seem low to me. Wiki says The stadium originally seated 58,729 for baseball.[15] In the early 1990s, the Pirates placed tarps on most of the upper deck to create a better baseball atmosphere, reducing capacity to 47,687. Three Rivers closed in 2000, so the 2001 figure is for the new park. Lets go with 58. Whichever number you take, none of 'em are 72K.

heh heh ... did I say Brewers? ... Pffft. ... Dodgers is what I meant to say. The Dodgers might be very dangerous in a short series.

Yep. I remember thinking a couple of times that he had messed up the count or number of outs. Wouldn't it be something if the Dodgers advance and the Angels get bounced? Lovin' the Rays win today. Longoria! And it was good to hear Harold Reynolds back in the broadcast booth. I always was suspicious of the way he got turfed out at ESPN. Never smelled right to me. Well , what smells is Tampa .....they just reported on WBZ-TV here in Boston that they couldn't sell out the Trop ?? Is this true ?......sad if they can't sell out a playoff game. Nah, they sold out. From the CBSportsline report: Part of the confusion might be that they have permanently blocked off the very back sections of the upper deck, which were terrible seats -- above the dreaded catwalks in some cases. I know optimism is high right now with them in the playoffs and all, but I get the feeling they've turned the corner as far as the fan base goes. The place looked like it was rockin' today. ... They did have some disappointing crowds during the season, but they also had a decent number of raucous crowds and drew better this year than any previous year, averaging 22,259 -- 26th out of 30 teams. Not great, but not terrible, and moving in the right direction. Last year they averaged 17,148 -- 30th out of 30 teams. I recall the Braves pretty regularly being unable to sell out playoff games.
