  1. I used to have the UK Polydor vinyl. I never really enjoyed the set so it went years ago. It surfaced again on Dutch Fontana.
  2. Albert Mangelsdorff Quintett; Now Jazz Ramwong. Amiga Jazz (DDR)
  3. Belated greetings Kevin, trust you had a great day.
  4. Pacific Jazz Piano Trios, disc 3, Clare Fischer.
  5. Ted Gioia's book West Coast Jazz is probably the best jazz book I've read. Really makes you want to get the records out.
  6. Happy Birthday Bertrand.
  7. Not my favourite Garland on Prestige, but my copy sounds okay to me.
  8. I was reluctant at first, mainly due to the cost of cds compared to vinyl. But it was the lure of extra tracks that got me in the end. My first cd was a Charlie Parker on Verve.
  9. Archie Shepp; The Way Ahead; Impulse stereo
  10. Belated Birthday Greeting Bill, glad it was a good one.
  11. Happy Birthday!. Keep Swinging!
  12. A great loss, a giant on the screen.
  13. I used to have the vinyl of Genesis but it went in a periodic clear out as it wasn't getting played. As i recall it was pretty much of it's time with added percusion. Nice but not essential imo. I've not come across Kamau but it looks interesting. Craig Handy and the Arabesque label are usually reliable.

It's along time ago now so I can't be absolutely certain who was playing in the band. However it certainly included the two trombones of Rudd & Moncur plus Beaver Harris on drums. Was anyone else there that night who can confirm the line-up? It was certainly Rudd, Moncur, Garrison and Harris at Ronnie Scott's. I'm pretty sure it was Garrison at Hammersmith too, but it was a while ago.

A night to remember, a curious evening indeed. I also had the opportunity to see the band at Ronnie Scott's on a couple of occasions. Fabulous evenings. Garrison's bass was a standout.
  16. I spoke to Alan Bates some years ago and he said that there was still unissued Candid material (Jaki Byard was mentioned as I recall). Though as nothing new has emerged for many years I guess this is likely to be another repackaging.
  17. Happy Birthday Jim!
  18. Happy Birthday Chuck.
  19. Stan Getz and Chet Baker; Stan Meets Chet. Verve (Germany)
  20. Booker Little 4 and Max Roach. United Artists (Japan)
  21. The Green Dolphin on Capetown's Waterfront apparently has nightly jazz. No idea what it's like but it's a nice locale. Nothing was posted outside when I was there earlier this year.
  22. Just played this one through. I'm not a latin fan but I like this one very much, Green plays as well as ever, and I like the tunes, but I guess the shakers do get a tad tedious so the final blues comes as a relief. The additional tracks with Ike Quebec don't add much to the date but you do get a couple of solos from an uncredited (on my cd) Sonny Clark.
  23. Don Pullen; Tomorrows Promises. Atlantic
  24. Starting the day as I finished yesterday with Charles Brackeen.
  25. Maybe there has been one but I can't recall seeing a legit reissue of this.
