  1. Thanks Brownie, This should be very useful, my Jazz In The Movies Book is pretty much out of date.
  2. Can't keep them all, wish I could.
  3. Very interesting, my thanks to CT. Looks like I'll be replacing my original ESP album before too long.

    Gary Thomas

I like "While The Gate Is Open" on JMT. Not sure if it's had a reissue on Winter and Winter yet. Nice set of standards, played with a twist.
  8. I used to have this one but I did a trade. I'm a big fan of Hemingway's groups (saw this band live) and he's a great drummer. But I found this one a little disappointing when compared to the previous Hats - maybe that might have just been down to Hemingway overload though. Overall I prefer his "American" quartets and his associations with Ray Anderson. They communicate more directly with me.
  9. Happy 35th Stefan.

    AOTW

Getting low on volunteers to nominate AOTW. Use it ot loose it. It looks like I'll be moving house in the next week or so I'm likely to be off line for several days, so if you want to get involved PM me NOW.
  12. Thanks for the link, one to return to.

    West Wind

I guess most of these are pretty grey. Sound is normally good but but it's worth checking. Some of their releases are taken from issued cds, others from European radio broadcasts. It's a case of buyer beware. I'll own up and say that the West Wind issue of the Art Ensemble of Chicago Live in Berlin is one of my favourite cds.
  14. Love this one - great music.
  15. Definitely a nice rack. If I ever get around to making another I'll use this one as a pattern. And good luck with the move. I'm just packing my lps up in readiness for a move (if the legal people ever get it completed), there seems an awful lot more when they are in boxes than on the shelves.
  16. Same in the UK. After years of shrinkage jazz racks have more or less disappeared in this neck of the woods, even at the so called megastores. Perhaps bigger cities do better but I doubt they have much more than items from the majors. Doesn't bother me too much as I usually buy on line/mail order so I can't complain but I miss the opportunity to browse.

    Martial Solal

The live cd from the Village Vanguard on Blue Note.
  18. I had a Lambretta in my early twenties (we talking 60s here). Lovely little 125cc machine, totally reliable.
  19. I didn't care too much for the Anderson, Doran, Bennink trio, much as I like Ray Anderson. The guitar was a little too much for me.
  20. I thought that the reason BN recorded Green so much was to put a few bucks in his pocket.
  21. My Cheer Up went for $55 on ebay last month.
  22. Up for a final pass. PM me if interested.
  23. That is the gist of the article in Coda. By not issuing Brooks' work BN get the blame in Chambers article.
  24. We are getting ready to move house and this one was packed away. But I thought I'd dig it out and give it a play. I'm glad I did. This is a superb record, so good that I played it again straight off. Curson is on top form imo but the real pleasure for me is the large helping of Barron (also on great form) and the interplay and riffing from Curson. The bass and drums are not spectacular but they do everything necessarry to keep the music moving along. I was listening to the Black Lion version by the way. Thanks for suggesting this one Clifford Thornton, AOTW is alive and kickin'.
