  2. Jazztet; disc 2. A timely reminder of just how good Farmer was.
  3. I'll admit to playing 'Tree Frog Tonality' more.
  4. I'm with Bol and Peter here, neither do very much for me, I'm sorry to say.
  5. Happy birthday, have a great day.
  6. Many thanks for the early Christmas treat.
  7. Thanks for the info, one for the wish list.
  8. I was lucky enough to see Sun Ra on two of his London visits. The first was an electrifying occasion (although the fire eaters were banned because of fire regulations I was told). With members of the band, two baritone players particlularly, blowing from all corners of the hall, the costumes and the theatrics it was something to behold. On the second visit I was very fortunate to be asked to accompany the late Peter Clayton (broadcaster and journalist) when he interviewed Sun Ra in his hotel room. I don't know what happened to the tape or if it was ever broadcast, but I do recall the tape ran out after half an hour and Peter let Ra carry on for at least another thirty minutes. I was certainly in awe of the great man being so close to him but regretably I have little recollection of what was said but it was mostly a rather rambling but interesting monologue from the soft spoken and thoughtful Ra about his philosophy. I was slightly disappointed that there was little or no discussion of his music. Another abiding recollection of that day was Alan Silva in the hotel corridor in his underwear.

    Norman Howard

    I agree, my thanks too.
  10. Happy birthday John
  11. Driving While Intoxicated. Different states use different labels. Thanks for the helpful explanation, useful for us foreigners
  12. It's distorsion free, indeed Just checked... Yup, I can confirm the the vinyl is distortion free and my blue cover Spanish Time Life cd is distortion infected.
  13. keen and peachy
  14. I have quite a number. A lot went into the bin but I couldn't bring myself to bin a few lp dubs and a lot of concert recordings from the radio. I transferred one or two to mp3 but it's so time consuming that I soon lost interest. Maybe I'll get around to doing a few more in time. But for now I still have areasonable quality tape deck so there'e no real hurry. I'd rather see the back of them though.
  15. I can't say that I know much about Polar Bear and Accoustic Ladyland. However we were lucky enough to get Seb Rochford to play in the town with Andrea Vicari's trio a short while back. He's a fine jazz drummer and one the quietest and most unassuming people you could meet.
  16. Terrible shame about the sound!
  17. Lovely stuff, really fine band.
  18. Adrian The drummer was Eric Gravatt. Ex Weather Report and an associate of Tyner's from his Milestone days.
  19. Never trust a programme Jamaladeen Tacuma was the bass player and, if I heard correctly Lee Pearson was on drums. Lee Pearson is correct. Just googled him for confirmation.
  20. I don't usually miss the chance to see David Murray. I can't say that I'm a great fan of he WSQ but they are doing their Hendrix 'tribute' and have Craig Harris, Gene Lake and Matthew Garrison guesting. The cd is one of their best imo.
  21. I'll be there tonight, more for the World Saxophone Quartet (with guests) than McCoyTyner though.
  22. If we are getting off topic with Prestige, The Arista Savoy doubles were pretty neat too. Good Lateef as well.

    Paul Bley

    Mine too.
  24. Those with the beige coloured covers? If they are not they ought to be. Nicely produced, intelligent notes and great music. Pressing quality wasn't always that great. I like 'em.
