  1. An excellent set. Passed on it though as I had the bulk of the music but always slightlyregreted missing out on it. Shows just how fine a player Serge was.

    Eddie Bert fans?

Me too, of the Savoys in particular. Can't say I've kept up with his later work. Good news that he's still playing strong.
  3. Belated birthday greetings Jim. Hope you had a great day.
  4. Belated birthday greetings from the UK. Hope you had a great day.
  5. Hey Bob, have a really great day. Best wishes John
  6. I prefer the live dates.

    Norman Howard

    Thanks Berendes, fine post.
  8. Jazz Disciples has one track missing too.
  9. Gerry Mulligan Quartets
  10. In one form or another I think I have all the "modern" classic titles with a couple of exceptions I'm not bothered about. I start getting picky in the UA period.
  11. I agree, the old setting or personal preference if possible please.
  12. Belated birthday greetings for sunny UK.
  13. My views entirely. A great and underrated player, loved his big baritone sound.
  14. Hi Flurin, Nice idea, not sure it'll work though.

    AOTW

First aplologies for my absence from the board for the last few weeks. Now my regular plea for volunteers - we are rapidly running out of names again so if thread is to continue PM with your name and I'll add you to the list of upcoming posters. New board members, all you need to do is PM me to get on the list then select an album of your choice, post the title with a few comments around the date listed. That's all ther is to it.
  16. Hi Tony, It's nice, newer so easier to heat and nearer the water. Only problem I've not bee able to negotiate space for the hifi with Mrs S yet so I'm either listening on the pc or on the small music system. The delay in getting on line was a think just and administration balls up. Shouldn't take 5 week to organise the transfer of a DSL.
  17. Belated birthday greetings. Trust you had a great day.
  18. You wouldn't believe how long it's taken my ISP to get me back on line, five weeks to the day. My phone numbers unchanged and I've moved about one and a half miles, I can hardly believe a major telecom company can be so inefficient. Still a few bugs to iron out but at least I'm back. Anyway apologies to those who sent me AOTW pms, I'll get to those tomorrow. Got to say I really missed this place. Great to be back.
  19. Just a passing aside to this thread. I don't want to spoil the warmness. I got to see Pink Floyd, cheesy light show and all, around 1970 at London's Queen Elizabeth Hall. a journalist friend who was reviewing the gig took me along - I wouldn't have gone otherwise. I was already a confirmed jazzer and I didn't think too much of it. The only thing that sticks in my mind was the distribution of cut daffodils at the end of the concert. It was around Easter so maybe that explains it.
  20. After weeks of frustration it's all finally come together and we are moving tomorrow. Not going far, just a little way out of the city to a modern house with garage and parking. Off street parking is a rarity in Portsmouth with its rows of terraced house around 100 years old and roads made for horses and carts. Lower heating bills too. Now the records are boxed up my vinyl collection is revealed as embarrassingly large, didn't look to half as many when on the shelves. I'm told it'll take seven working days to get broadband up and running again so I won't be here for a couple of weeks. I'll miss my visits but they'll be plenty to do around the house. If you want to volunteer for AOTW please be patient. See you soon.
  21. Happy birthday Randy, and many happy returns
  22. I don't believe you'll find that any of the recordings quoted above are far out. One or two might be termed adventurous.
  23. He's the drummer with Billy Bang's Vietnam band. Recommended.
  24. Great album, but when I want to listen to Atlantic 'trane "Coltrane's Sound" is my first choice.
  25. Have a good trip Chris
