  1. quote=undergroundagent,May 18 2005, 06:47 PM] IMO, the record that most blatantly defines Benson's transition to pop was "Good King Bad." OOP title on CTI - his last CTI record. ←
  2. Looks fine to me (after the initial shock of the new).
  3. Thanks for this guys. I've been thinking about posting a poll to get some ideas how we might revitalise the topic so I'm pleased with your thoughtful input. Any ideas/suggestions you have post them here (or PM me). Whatever we do though there will always be some albums which won't fly, especially if they are a bit on the obscure side.
  4. Some threads still slow today

    Of course. Feel free.
  6. My codolences to Gary too. I think we'll miss the friendly rivalry.
  7. Curious, Lord says Blues March is on the same lp issue as Sad March. Maybe a miss-titling somewhere along the line.
  8. happy birthday tooter and many more to come

  10. Enja cd ENJ 9049 2. With Tom Rainey, Ellery Eskelin, Regina Carter, Epizo Bangoura. Recorded 1994. $10.00 includes shipping from the UK.
  11. George Wallington: Knight Music. UKk GI issue, ex Atlantic.
  12. I had a double of the two Roulette albums years ago and although I generally enjoy Phineas I didn't think too much of them so they did not find a permanent place in my collection. I'd sure like to hear them again to see if my opinion is the same.
  13. This is probably one to get on the strength of the previous issue alone. Thanks for alerting me to it WL.
  14. Nice album but it's "To Swing Or Not To Swing" for me. One of the happiest sounding dates ever imo. A bit of nosalgia here too as it was this disc that introduced me to Kessel - loved it ever since.
  15. Gotta be Blue
  16. Recommended, the essential Giuffre is all here.
  17. This has to be some of my favourite Getz.
  18. Happy birthday to you.
  19. Sad news indeed
  20. Surely this is Verve's problem. The Verve discs are different to those in the Mosaic boxes.
  21. I had the Verve single cd of this. Definitely no defect.
  22. Joe Newman And The Boys In The Band
  23. Billy Harper is one of those playes with a stunning sound. Those first albums on Denon, Black Saint and with Max Roach really capture his sound beautifully. But when it comes to his more recent things I'm not so convinced by his playing. There seems to be more energy than substance. Fortune too has a big strong sound and for me much the same thing applies. His interpetations of Monk are his most satisfying recordings where he's more disciplined and working with stong material. I wanted to enjoy this a lot more than I did, not that it's bad. Shame because Fortune and Harper are both fine players.
  24. People who come to our club seem to like him and he's always a sell out. So much so that we've booked him again for this December.
  25. This is a septet date from April 1960. According to Lord it was cheduled fpr release on Mercury but was released on Emarcy. Also issued on Wing and Philips. I'd guess it came out sfortly after recording. Chuck's too quick off the mark for me.
