  1. From the amount of airplay on BBC Radio 2 this weekend he is now the darling of the easy listening set.
  2. I mentioned these on another Newborn thread. I had a UK issue twofer years ago and didn't care for it that much so I disposed of it fairly quickly. The pressing quality wasn't that good anyway. Lord says that all the tiltles are on one tOCJ. I certainly like to hear this music again now.
  3. Kenny Werner; Unprotected Music Charles Mingus; Tonight At Noon Sonny Fortune; Monks Mood/Four In One/From Now On Bennie Maupin; Jewel In The Lotus(vinyl)
  4. The Blue Note lover will not find very much new in this book. It's readable but most memberrs of this board will have formed their own opinions about the records that get a mention, and quite a few that don't.
  5. Don't knock those garbage cans. Percusion insrtrument played by Bill Summers on Bennie Maupin's Jewel In The Lotus- "water filled garbage can" I still have the first vinyl issue of On The Corner, I wasn't impressed when I first heard it and I've no desire to play it again. What did surprise my though was Bill Laswell's remix, there is so much going on that I didn't hear on the vinyl, fascinating?
  6. I've got a few, my favourite by far is Heliocentric Worlds Vol 1. Imo opinion an all time great. What I want to get is Some Blues But Not The Kind That's BLue. Apart from the title track it's a collection of standards. I heard John Gilmore playing "My Favorite Things" from this album on the radio and I was hooked.
  7. Thanks Claude, I've preordered anyway, you never know. But I thought it was too good to be true.
  8. I was called once. I was pretty disillusioned by the whole legal process, prosection, defence, police evidence, everything. If I get called again I'll be getting a doctors certificate. Then I was just pissed off, now I can't help needing one.
  9. I've just played the four Destry tracks from the Blue Note reissue series double lp. They are stranger than I remembered, there's almost a pop/dance band feel to the arrangements and to Weston's playing which is pretty and rather tame. What about Blue Moses on CTI? Weston was an unusual candidate for the CTI treatment. Even playing electric piano with Don Sebesky's arrangements and Grover Washington I think there are some fine moments on the record.
  10. See you there Gary.
  11. Don't think I'm dismissing Debut (for Mingus and Thad Jones), Riverside(Bill Evans and Blue Mitchell) and Fantasy(Dave Brubeck) . I love them all but Prestige wins, I love the loose, casual jam session format with RVG's sound. Most of them worked for me, in fact it's hard to think of a real dud. Contemporay comes second. Good sound, good production and some great ideas.
  12. Sony in the UK are advertising 2 two cd sets or one four cd box. Release date is give as 3 June. Amazon UK have this four cd set for preorder at £17.99-can this be right?
  13. Does anyone have the Roulette sides, reissued on a TOCJ. I heard these briefly when they came out on a vinyl twofer, wasn't that impressed and disposed of the record (lousy pressing in any event). I'd like the chance to hear those tracks again.
  14. Recorded live in Osaka, Sept. 1977 with Allen Jackson, bass, and Clarence Johnston, drums.
  15. Well, I don't have the Pee Wee, but any of the others are fine with me.
  16. The Weston set will certainly be something to look forward too. I've got some of the material but thre's enough new stuff here to make it essential. Shame that Destry isn't included even if it isn't top drawer, it would have been nice to have a complete set. Did I read that Weston didn't authorise it's release? The Green set gets a very strong recommendation from me too. I love his swing/bop playing and he leads some tight swinging little bands here. The Minor Revelation date is especially nice. I'll be passing on the set, reluctantly, I have everyting on Japanese lps, TOCJs etc. As has been said this is fine way to spend $39 (twice)
  17. It's advertised as techno/electro. The cd Freak In was more interesting than I imagined it would be, some pleasant Milesian touches. I'm going to give them a try in Southampton.
  18. It's good to see the interest in Ayler, we've been spoilt for choice lately with his cds, Healing Force, Nuits de la Fondation Maeght and The Copenhagen Tapes. A nice selection from his early playing through to his final recordings. It's got to be good.
  19. The two cd sets seem fine on the evidence of the one I have, Young Mulligan. I had most of the material on vinyl and it this was a cheap way to get a good selection on cd. They are priced around £8.50 in the UK, come with a slipcase and a small booklet.

    Krysztof Komeda

I can remember the impact the music had on me when I first saw Polanski's Knife in the Water. Though I think it was probably Bernt Rosengren's tenor that caught my ear then rather than Komeda's playing or writing. There are about a dozen Komeda cds on Power Bros but I don't know about Le Depart
  21. That's better, I can relate better to British Summer time.
  22. Great cd, you won't be disappointed.
  23. It took me a long time to get into Wayne Shorter. It wasn't until I heard Shorter's Blue Note records that I realised just that I was listening to a master. That in turn opened up the Davis/Shorter/Hancock.. quintet for me.
  24. Just arrived and it's very, very, tasty.
  25. Another thread took me back to Barry Ulanov and his All Star Metronome Jazzmen with Bird, Navarro, Gillespie, Tristano etc. on Spotlite (Anthropology and Lullaby In Rhythm). Haven't had these out for years, lovely stuff. And right now; Organissimo
